Chapter 387: Veil of Darkness (Part One)
The Light energy helped Annalise to see across the Realms, witnessing the ongoing battle in the Mortal and Midnight Realms. Everything looked under control except... the dark energy that had entered every Realm and kingdom to destroy the rest of the world. It was burning trees, contaminating water, and destroying buildings.
Though it hadn’t found the citizens hiding in two different secret hideouts, it wouldn’t take too long for it to find them and devour them as well if no one stopped it.
Annalise opened her eyes when she felt the fluttering sound of wings. This time, she recognized one of the pixies - Woozi, he along with a few other pixies, had returned inside the cave.
"What is it?" She asked when she noticed the worry on their faces.
"That dark energy outside, it’s about to penetrate through our veil," Woozi answered and the panic was clear in his voice.
As Annalise took in the gravity of the situation, she realized how wrong they all were. Finding the light energy wasn’t actually the hardest part of this battle, instead, the hardest part was to find a way to stop the dark energy from destroying their world.
She looked at the pixies and spoke - "Go and try to keep the veil up, I will try to find a way to stop it." The pixies nodded their heads in understanding before they all flew out, leaving her alone in the cave once again.
The dark energy was indestructible, there was no method for ending its presence once and for all. Also, sealing it once again in another corner of the world was just a temporary solution that would keep the world in fear for centuries.
She closed her eyes and tried to connect with the Light Guardians. The light energy helped once again and she was immediately linked to all the Guardians who were stationed at the Portal Halls.
"Lady Annalise?"
Silas was the first one to speak through the link as he noticed her presence inside his mind.
"I feel her presence too." This time, it was Sir Niles who spoke.
"My apology for the sudden invasion, but I need your help," Annalise confessed.
"It is alright, child. From what I can sense, you must have already found the light energy. Then what do you want our help with?" Elder Eleron questioned.
"How can I make the dark energy let go of its resentment and willingly return to the Primordial Realm for eternity?" - The question hung in the link between the Guardians and Annalise as the former didn’t expect the latter to ask something like that.
The silence stretched for several long moments and Annalise almost felt like she wouldn’t get the answer she was hoping for.
"This - Lady Annalise, why do you always have the hardest questions possible waiting for us? You should try asking some normal questions." Cyrus commented but was immediately reprimanded by Edith to act seriously at such a grave moment.
Finally, Sir Niles spoke, responding to Annalise’s question - "Since you have asked this question, you must already know the reason behind the dark energy’s resentment. That reason is the answer to your question, Annalise. End the reason and you will be able to end the resentment."
End the reason? It was easier said than done.
"Thank you for the help. I will try my best." Annalise closed the link and teleported out of the cave, appearing outside the Luminous Valley.
It was the presence of Light energy inside her that was pulling Dark energy’s attention toward the Luminous Valley. If she wanted to keep the valley safe, she needed to get out of there.
She once again used teleportation and this time, she appeared in the very middle of dead forest surrounding the Seelie Court. The moment she appeared, it was not only the Dark energy that felt her presence but also the rest of the world.
Annalise’s plan was to distract the Dark Energy and make it return to the Seelie Realm, but it was two of the twelve Shadowlords who appeared in front of her, taking her by surprise and attacking her with their dark magic.
Though quite late, Annalise hurriedly formed a protective shield in front of her which took most of the impact of the attack, saving her from injuries.
The golden bracelet around her wrist shone brightly before it melted into a golden vine and moved down her wrist to fit in her palm as it turned into a whip at her command.
Annalise recalled her months of training and finally used what she learned in a real life and death situation. The two Shadowlords attacked her together, using their weapons laced with Dark Magic, and she defended herself from the attacks with the help of her whip. Their actions almost looked like a form of dance, a deadly one.
On her command, the whip transformed into twin daggers and she laced them with her magic, casting a spell over them right before she attacked the two Shadowlords. Her daggers easily broke through the protective shield of dark magic that the two Shadowlords created for their protection and found their marks, taking down both the Shadowlords together with one single hit.
If it had been some other situation, Annalise would surely have taken her time to dwell on the fact that she just killed two people, even if they were rogues who were trying to destroy the entire world, but the current situation required her to keep her composure.
She was pulled out of her trance when she heard the sound of twigs breaking behind her. She immediately turned around, her daggers and powers ready to defend her, but then she recognized the person from the memories she got from the spirit of the late Light Fae Queen - Prince Aerold.
"What a surprise you turned out to be, Lady Annalise?" Aerold commented with a smirk playing on his lips as he walked toward the bodies of dead Shadowlords. "A mere mortal Princess turned out to be the most powerful fae in this world. You all really tricked us, didn’t you"
