Chapter 386: Monsters of Dark Woods
Chapter 386: Monsters of Dark Woods
Midnight Realm
~
The battle had started between the Unseelie army and the Darklings with the arrival of Shadowlords who took down all the magical arrays set up by the Midnight Queen.
While the Unseelies had the upper hand in the battle at the beginning, it was no longer the same as the Shadowlords were also accompanied by the deadly dark energy that was devouring everything and everyone that came in its path.
"We need to stop the dark energy."
"We can’t." The Queen broke the sad news to her people and watched as realization dawned over the Unseelies - they could kill the Draklings and the Shadowlords, but there was no stopping the Dark energy.
"Was it a lost battle from the very start, Your Majesty?" A young Unseelie fae asked as he tried to keep a tight grip on his sword while his eyes were taking in the heart-wrenching sight of the dark energy devouring his fellow soldiers.
Midnight Queen summoned her powers as she prepared for the next big blow. Right before launching it, she answered the young soldier’s question - "No. And it is still not a lost battle, young man. She will not let us lose."
The moment she finished talking, a bright force of magic hit the army of Darklings and the Dark energy, sending both recoiling.
"How can you think about having all the fun on your own, Melissa?"
The familiar voice belonged to none other than the Mer Queen who had come to join the battle along with her army.
"You are finally here." Midnight Queen welcomed her old friend with a warm smile before her eyes moved toward the four huge Light Guardian Beasts that had also landed on the battleground.
The Mer Queen followed her line of sight and answered the Midnight Queen’s unasked question - "Your daughter-in-law has sent them here for assistance."
The Majestic Snow Lion walked up to Eirwen and whispered something in the Ice Dragon’s ear. The latter then walked up to the Midnight Queen. "Your Majesty..."
"Go." The Queen already knew what the Dragon was about to request from her. "Your place is next to your Master. Go and assist him, Eirwen. Keep my son safe."
The Divine Ice Dragon bowed its head to the Queen before it took off in the vast sky, easily passing through the thick purple fog with the assistance of Snow Lion who was carrying the power of light bestowed to him and the other Guardian Beasts by their master.

"Can you hear that?"
Kenric asked his brother as he finished killing another one of the Darkljngs. He pulled out his dagger and punched it straight into the neck of another Darkling who was about to attack him from behind. The Darkling dropped dead on the ground the very next second.
"What?"
Damien asked in confusion as he caught his sword that just killed four Darklings in a row before returning to his waiting palm.
"Focus, Damien, something is about to happen." There was urgency in Kenric’s voice as he dropped to his knees and put his ear against the ground to hear.
Damien didn’t follow his brother, instead, he put on a defensive mode to guard his brother from attacks, which was a good idea as he had to kill a total of seven Darklings before Kenric finally stood up.
"What did you find?"
Kenric had a grave look on his face as he answered - "It’s either a huge army of Darkljngs heading here or..."
"Or?"
They didn’t get to talk any further as the very next moment, an uproar through their army caught their attention and made them notice the huge monsters that were heading toward the battleground.
"The monsters of the Dark Woods?" Kenric recognized the bright red-eyed monsters that he had faced before in the hidden part of the forest behind the Cursed Castle.
All these years, they believed the monsters of the Dark Woods were actually beasts that had gone rogue because of the sealed dark energy in that part of the forest, but they couldn’t have been more wrong. Those monsters didn’t go rogue on their own, they were made to go rogue. Their enemy was creating an army of monsters right next to their house and none of them ever realized it.
"This is bad."
Damien had reached the same conclusion as his brother but it was already too late.
"What are we going to do now?" Elijah asked in a hurry as he watched one of the flying monsters killing a group of Seelies who were trying to cast a protective barrier to keep the monsters away.
"Kill them."
"Easy for you to say!" Elijah shouted at the back of Damien’s figure that just rushed straight toward one of the biggest monsters with three heads of wolf and punched his swords through its neck while his shadows took it down, killing a couple of Darklings that got trapped under the huge body of the monster. "And easy for you to do."
Kenric gave him a knowing smile before he took out his bow and shot into the air, launching a stream of magical arrows that hit several of the small monsters.
Elijah let out a sigh before he found himself under-attacked by a Darkling. He was about to kill him before two more Darklings attacked him, overpowering him. He would have died there if not for a dragon that appeared out of the blue and took away all three Darklings.
"The Dragon shifters! They are here!"
Shouts of joy and hope erupted through the Mortal and Seelie armies as the Dragons joined them in the battleground, taking down the monsters - both on land and in the sky.
"We are not late, are we?"
Elijah recognized the familiar voice of his friend and as he turned to face them, he found Leela m taking down two of the Darklings with her water spell. Ezra and Marley were beside her with smiles on their lips as they looked at Elijah.
"No. You are just on time."
