Chapter 379: The Magical Arrays
Chapter 379: The Magical Arrays
The Midnight Realm’s wards shattered and a huge force shook the surroundings, sending the Unseelie army reeling because of the powerful impact.
The Midnight Queen’s gaze hardened with determination. Her midnight-black eyes surveyed the unfolding chaos as the Unseelie army grappled with the unexpected aftermath. The resonating impact had sent shockwaves through the magical land, yet amidst the disarray, she remained resolute.
"Launch the arrays," she commanded, her voice cutting through the turmoil. The general-in-command, a seasoned fae warrior, gave a nod in acknowledgement before he swiftly conveyed the order to the frontline. Powerful faes, their auras pulsating with raw magic, took their positions and unleashed a cascade of elemental energies into the sky.
Five arrays, meticulously arranged to confound and defeat the dark army, came to life one after another. The first, an illusion array, enveloped the darklings in their deepest fears and nightmares, trapping them in a surreal realm of terror. The second, a suppression illusion, dulled the darklings’ powers, making it arduous for them to progress to the third array—a frozen barrier crafted by the skilled hand of Valerius, resonating with the biting cold of ice magic.
As the dark army confronted each layer of the intricate defense, the fourth array released a poisonous miasma, further sapping their strength. Those who managed to endure the onslaught found themselves at the mercy of the fifth array, a teleportation enchantment that whisked them directly into the clutches of awaiting Unseelie soldiers poised for a final confrontation.
The genius of these arrays lay in their near-impenetrability. Only one equal or superior in power to their creators—Valerius and the Midnight Queen—could hope to dismantle these formidable magical defenses. For the rest, survival through the arrays meant navigating a treacherous maze of illusions, ice, poison, and teleportation, each layer more formidable than the last.
The arrays took the dark army by surprise and caught them off guard. However, amidst the unfolding spectacle, a sudden cry from the Unseelie army cut through the Queen’s contemplation. Her attention snapped toward the sky, where a swirling amalgamation of black and dark purple fog had materialized.
It swiftly passed through the powerful arrays and started taking over the land of Midnight Realm.
"The dark energy. The arrays can’t trap it," came the urgent revelation from one of the council members.
A shadow of concern crossed the Midnight Queen’s face. They completely overlooked the possibility that the arrays would not be able to capture the dark energy. The unforeseen intrusion of this malevolent force posed a threat that even the meticulously crafted plans might struggle to contain. Her mind raced, considering possibilities and strategizing the next move.
The General-in-command of the Midnight army, ever perceptive, stepped forward. "It’s spreading really fast, Your Majesty. We should come up with a plan to hold it back."
The Queen nodded, acknowledging the truth in his words. "Prepare a defensive perimeter. We cannot allow this dark energy to breach our lines."
The Unseelie soldiers, seasoned warriors with unwavering loyalty, swiftly adjusted their positions. The magical land became a battlefield not just against the invading darklings but against an insidious force that defied the very essence of the Midnight Realm and the light magic they all believed in.
As the dark energy seeped through the air, tendrils of its malevolence reached toward the arrays. The illusions wavered, the ice barrier shuddered, and the poisonous miasma seemed to dissipate momentarily. The teleportation enchantment, however, held strong, acting as a final barrier against the encroaching darkness.
The Midnight Queen, her eyes ablaze with determination, extended her hands, channeling her formidable magic to reinforce the weakening arrays. The council members joined her, their mastery over different elemental magic enhancing the resilience of the barriers. The Unseelie soldiers, sensing the urgency, poured their collective energy into maintaining the defense.
Yet, the dark energy persisted, probing for weaknesses, seeking to exploit any vulnerability in the carefully crafted magical defenses.
As the battle raged on, the Midnight Queen and her allies faced an unprecedented challenge. The dark energy persisted, an enigma that defied the conventional understanding of magical warfare. The fate of the Midnight Realm hung in the balance, teetering between the resilience of its defenders and the insidious power that sought to consume it.
A few moments ago, it seemed like the Midnight army had the upper hand in the battle and they had almost secured their win. However, it barely took moments for all that to change. The appearance of the dark energy changed everything.
Still, there was hope... as long as...
A huge tremor shook the entire Midnight Realm, sending everyone flying across as an immensely powerful force swept the entire world. Rocks fell from the cliffs, trees trembled, waves erupted in the water bodies, and darklings along with the underlie soldiers - they all end up losing their balance and falling.
"What just happened?" A woman, one of the council members, asked as she joined Midnight Queen after regaining her balance. The latter had her gaze fixed on the far land as if she was seeing something the others were unable to. When she finally responded, her words sent chills running down everyone’s spine.
"They have taken down the wards of the Seelie Realm as well. The dark energy... it’s released."
The news came at the worst moment possible. They were already struggling to control the little amount of dark energy that the darklings brought along, but now, they would be facing the onslaught of the most treacherous, sinister, and evil energy to ever exist.
"Your Majesty..."
The worried tone of the General-in-commad pulled the Midnight Queen’s attention toward the arrays that were coming down one after the other as a figure emerged from the dark fog—a sinister silhouette with glowing eyes that held a malevolent intelligence.
The Midnight Queen’s gaze narrowed as recognition dawned. "Shadowlord," she muttered, her tone a mix of disdain and acknowledgment.
The Unseelie forces tensed as the legendary darkling stepped forward, the fog swirling around him like a cloak. But what really surprised them all was when three more Shadowlords stepped forward from the fog and joined their partner.
