Chapter 311: Letter from Midnight Queen
Chapter 311: Letter from Midnight Queen
After returning to the Cursed Castle from the Midnight Realm once the urgent meeting ended, Annalise and the others had now a new task in their hands to complete.
The night sky was shrouded by dark clouds and the temperature had dropped to make the weather chillier than the previous day. It almost felt like it would snow anytime soon.
Inside the warm walls of the castle, Annalise, the dark lords, and their friends, gathered in the grand living room, the atmosphere was tense from the recent developments.
The servants had already retired for the night at Annalise’s orders, leaving the castle to seem slightly empty without their usual presence.
"I can’t believe we’re forming an alliance already. It just makes everything even more real, the fact that we have been dragged to our very last resort by our enemy," Leela whispered as she took a seat next to the fireplace and Ezra followed her, settling down on the seat next to hers.
Everyone had been so busy fighting the dark energy or trying to find ways to defeat it that nearly no one noticed these two coming this close. But as Annalise looked at them now, she could see that they had already developed feelings for each other.
Ezra nodded his head at Leela’s words, glancing towards Annalise, who was silently observing the two of them, "It’s our only chance against the dark energy and our enemy."
Annalise turned to the group, her eyes determined. "We’re all aware of the stakes. Our worlds are under threat, and unity is the only way forward. Our mission now is to secure the support of the other rulers."
They could no longer fight on their own. Their enemy had grown powerful and thus, they needed to increase their power as well, which called for an alliance.
Elijah adjusted his coat as he stood up to face everyone, a determined glint in his eyes. "I’ll head to my father’s kingdom right away. He’ll need to know about this alliance. I promise to bring good news."
Leela nodded, her sea-green eyes resolute. "And I’ll seek an audience with the Mer Queen. As much as I know her, she will definitely be a part of this alliance."
Ezra and Marley also stood up before speaking - "We will be leaving too. Let’s meet at the meeting directly."
Everyone nodded their heads in agreement before Annalise asked - "Are you all leaving right now?"
"We should. There’s not much time to waste." Leela replied and Annalise nodded her head in understanding.
With a soft sigh, she picked up a sealed letter from the table. "This is for my cousin. I will try my best too." She said while looking at others.
"You have always tried your best, Lisa. Try to give yourself enough rest and compliments from time to time. Don’t be so hard on yourself." Leela advised Annalise strictly even though she still sounded too sweet.
"Finally someone said it," Marley added as he showed his agreement with Leela’s words.
Annalise gave her friends a soft smile as she felt her heart filling with warmth at their words.
The room fell silent for a moment, everyone was lost deep in their thoughts. Then Elijah was the first one to take his leave and step out of the room.
Annalise watched as one after the other, all her friends left for their respective realms or kingdoms to convey the message of alliance to their Kings or Queens.

Later that night, the Cursed Castle was shrouded in a stillness only found in moments of respite. And even though it was already way past midnight, Annalise was having a hard time falling asleep. Her mind was running all over the place, thinking and worrying about too many things at the very same time.
She lay in her large, lavish bed, encircled by the warmth of her husbands’ embraces but her thoughts were making it hard for her to focus on the men who were surrounding her with warmth despite the cold weather, not like the castle wasn’t already doing a superb job at keeping the cold far away from them.
Kenric brushed his fingers along her cheek before he whispered - "Don’t look so lost, Little Bird. We will definitely find a way out of this." He sounded determined and that made Annalise feel slightly better.
Damien’s lips brushed her forehead but the man didn’t speak, just allowed her to bask in the love and protection that his presence provided.
"What are we exactly going to do after forming the alliance?" She finally ended up asking that one question that had been bugging her the most ever since they returned from Midnight Realm.
She didn’t get an immediate response which made her questioning gaze to shift toward her husbands’ faces. Finally, it was Valerius who answered - "I know that you have questions regarding this alliance - whether it’s actually a solution to form an alliance? Then the answer is no, an alliance between all the realms and kingdoms won’t solve anything. But instead of everyone fighting on their own against the dark energy, don’t you think it will be better for everyone to fight together?"
"Even after the alliance, we will be the one responsible to unveil the secrets of our enemy. But... a war is inevitable at this point, Annalise, and we will need this alliance to win that war."
Indeed, there was no denying that their world would soon be facing a war, but the question was - would they ever be able to find out the enemy before it would be too late?
Annalise let out a deep sigh as she remained silent, not wanting to make her husbands worry for her any further.
Valerius leaned in, his voice a velvety whisper against her ear as he spoke - "Sleep now, wife."
His sweet and tender voice enveloped her in a cocoon of affection, and in almost no time, she drifted into a peaceful sleep, nestled in the arms of her husbands.
