Chapter 312: Abilities of Light
Chapter 312: Abilities of Light
As the sun’s first rays painted the sky, Annalise and Valerius made their way from the Cursed Castle to the grand palace of the Seelie Empire.
Even though it was early in the morning, the streets were bustling as people prepared to start their day.
The carriage stopped in front of the entrance of the familiar palace and Valerius helped Annalise to climb down before the two of them headed inside.
The palace guards bowed respectfully as they entered the opulent hall where the King awaited.
"Annalise, Valerius," the King greeted, his eyes curious. "It’s been a while. What brings you here?"
Valerius stepped forward, his tone firm yet respectful. "Your Majesty, this is a letter from the Midnight Queen. Please have a look." He handed the letter to the King before settling down in the chair next to Annalise.
The room was filled with deep silence as the King took his time to read through the content of the letter. Annalise felt anxious with each passing second and if not for Valerius being by her side, she would probably have lost her calm long ago.
She knew her cousin really well at this point, he loved his Empire and his people, and could do anything to keep them safe which meant he could refuse to form an alliance which would demand much more from him and hus people than just minding their own business.
The people of Seelie Empire were after all mortals... or nearly mortals. With such little magical powers in their possession, they were indeed nothing in front of the immensely powerful dark energy.
"An alliance?" The King questioned once he was done reading the letter, his expression hard to read.
"We come bearing important news, Your Majesty. An alliance is being formed to combat the dark energy threatening our realms. It’s a call to bring all our people and powers together to make sure that history won’t repeat itself." Annalise informed the King and no one asked exactly what ’history’ she was reffering to, as they knew the answer very well. No one wanted the incident from ten thousand years to happen ever again. Their world won’t be able to survive such a calamity this time... as there was no late Light Fae Queen to save them all.
The King didn’t speak for a while but when he eventually did, neither Annalise nor Valerius were expecting such a question from him. "And whom should I put my faith in?" His eyes were focused on Annalise as if he was referring to her.
At first, Annalise couldn’t think of anything to say. The pressure of the hope and trust everyone kept putting in her was slowly becoming heavier, almost like a burden that was slowly consuming her. And she knew better than anyone that she was in no position to give anyone any sort of hope despite their beliefs.
"You should put your faith in yourself, Your Majesty..." she finally spoke, "... and also your in your people. As long as you will fight with all your might, there’s always hope."
The King looked surprised from her words but there was also a sense of understanding in his eyes. A moment or two later, he finally nodded his head. "You are right." He spoke in a soft voice that almost went unheard if not for Annalise and Valerius’ heightened hearing.
"The Seelie Empire will definitely be a part of this alliance." The King annojnced, a hint of a smile touching his lips. "We’ll be there at the meeting in the Midnight Realm. Together, we shall end this menace."
Relief washed over Annalise instantly and as she looked at Valerius, she found her husband gazing back at her with admiration filled eyes.
After talking with the King for a little bit more, the two of them finally headed out of the palace, but instead of returning to the castle, Valerius took Annalise to meet her parents.
Meeting her family after months, Annalise couldn’t help but feel emotional, especially when her mother almost started crying seeing her at the door of the manor out of the blue.
They spent the entire morning and afternoon at her parents house before returning to their home right before evening.
Back at the Cursed Castle, Annalise and Valerius found Damien and Kenric deep in conversation with Sir Niles and Silas as the four of them sat huddled in one of the corners of the library.
"What are you all discussing like this?" Annalise asked as she peeked to get a glimpse of the books and scrolls that were scattered across the wooden table sitting between their chairs.
"We are trying to find a way to track the dark energy. Since you can do it, there should be a way out there for us to try too." Kenric explained as he closed the book he was reading and turned to face Annalise who in return shifted her attention toward Sir Niles and Silas.
"And we have been trying to explain to them that it’s not some spell, instead, it’s an inner ability possessed by the light only, to track any kind of magical power existing in the four realms." Sir Niles explained, making Annalise feel even more bewildered than Kenric did.
There was a long silence before Damien questioned - "How do you actually trace it, Princess?" His eyes looked curiously at her, waiting for a response.
Annalise bit down lightly on her lower lip before she spoke - "I... don’t know either. It’s just there... the ability to see past the very essence of any spell or magical energy, and to trace it down to its very source. To undo any spell and even... create spells that doesn’t even exist... they all are just there... inside me."
She felt Valerius’ arms wrapping around her before she was pulled into a tight hug. "It’s alright, love. You will definitely find the answers you have been searching for so long. You will."
Annalise nodded her head as she let out a small sigh and relaxed in his arms. Since she was the only one who could trace the black energy, she needed to be powerful enough to do it without getting hurt next time.
