Chapter 155: Things Going Wrong at the Cursed Castle

The news of the return of the Dark Lords and Annalise had already reached the people of the Cursed Castle but unlike the happy environment that should have been present there, both the place and tge people there looked gloomy.

The iron gate of the castle was covered in dead vines, and the gardens seemed lifeless as the grass, trees, and vines looming over the walls had turned dark over the past half month. The fountain was no longer sprinkling cool water and the inside of the castle seemed to be in a similar state as the exterior.

"What are we going to say to the lords and my lady? They left the responsibility of the castle to us and we just watched this beautiful place wither to nothing without being able to do anything. I feel so bad right now that I don’t even want to face the masters." Sera told the others as they all sat outside on the porch.

"The worse part is that there are even some guests coming along with the lady and lords. Seeing the state of this place, we are definitely going to lose our faces." Aunt Claire added as her old eyes looked around the place that used to be blooming with life and happiness just half a month ago before the lords and the lady left the place.

"Only if Lady Annalise has been here, none of these would have happened then and we would not have to worry like this. Count on this weird place to get moody and choosey when you least expect it." Garron was the next one to speak but he immediately regretted his words when a strong blow of wind hit him and the others, almost making them all fall along with their chairs.

"Careful with your words, Garron! Haven’t you learned yet not to use the word ’weird’ for this place? Thanks to you, we have all been attacked by winds, sudden rainstorms, angry vines, and even heatstroke in the past half month. Just stop agitating the castle anymore. We can hardly bear with the punishments." Sera was the first one to reprimand Garron as they all straightened into their seats after the strong wind disappeared as if it wasn’t even there just a moment ago.

Everyone let out deep sighs as they all stopped talking and just stared at the far end of the rich forest that was surrounding the castle. The castle being located at the very top of the mountain peak barely gave them the advantage of seeing the great view of the entire capital city as the tall trees and the dense forest hid everything from their view.

"Why Mr. Warren isn’t back yet? Do you think the lords and the lady won’t be back till tomorrow?" Garron asked as his eyes turned toward the iron gate of the castle in the hope to see any glimpse of Mr. Warren who left early in the morning to receive their lords and the lady in the city.

The letter that they received three days ago did state that there could be chances for a sudden change in the plans which could result in a delay in their return but it also stated that they would most likely return on the current day by noon.

And even though the letter didn’t ask for them to be present in the capital to receive them, Mr. Warren still decided to go into the capital to perform his duty and receive the masters of the house on their return from the long journey. Most importantly, there were guests coming along with the lords and the lady and there was a need for some items in the kitchen and the guest rooms that they had to prepare.

"Let’s wait for a little while more. If there’s still no news within the next hour, we should better continue with the day and start preparing for lunch." Aunt Claire said as she took a sip of her tea that had gone cold after sitting on the table untouched for several long minutes.

So, the three of them - Sera, Aunt Claire, and Garron waited for another hour but still got no news. Finally giving up on waiting, all three of them decided to start with their work. While Aunt Claire disappeared into the kitchen to prepare lunch for the four of them, Sera and Garron headed to the second floor to clean and set up the guest rooms.

The castle did stop ruining all their efforts of cleaning and organizing it even after Annalise and the dark lords left half a month ago but even though the place looked furnished from the inside, there was still a sense of destruction filling the place.

Just a single look at the rooms or the halls and one would only receive the vibes of abandonment and loneliness. There was no warmth, no shine, and no happiness in the castle, only darkness, and coldness that was residing deep in the stones and walls of the building, and that’s exactly what that place was - a building, far from being called a home.

"Sera! Garron! Hurry, come down here!" The loud and panicked voice of Aunt Claire made both the youngsters run down the stairs and straight outside on the porch where the old lady was standing with a horrified look on her face.

"What’s wrong?" Garron asked as he looked at the old woman from head to toe just to make sure that she wasn’t hurt or something. Thankfully, Aunt Claire seemed to be completely fine except for whatever caused her to be in such a shock.

The old woman raised one of her arms and pointed her trembling fingers in a particular direction, making both Sera and Garron look at the reason behind her panic.

"What the bloody stars?" Garron was the first one to speak as his gaze landed on the tragedy that was happening right in front of their eyes.

"This must be a nightmare! Why everything is going so wrong right before the return of the lords and my lady?"
