The Veil of Darkness -
Chapter 156: Back To Home
Chapter 156: Back To Home
"Wait! Look again. It doesn’t seem to be breaking." Sera spoke hastily as she grabbed both Aunt Claire and Garron’s arms to pull their attention toward the fountain that was shaking and shifting without making any sort of sound.
"It’s true! The fountain... it doesn’t seem to be breaking apart." Garron added as he too watched a new miracle happening right in front of his eyes.
The three of them stood there on the front porch of the castle and watched as the fountain became as new as it looked right on the day when Annalise and the Dark Lords left the castle for Lakeshire Town. It didnt even take a minute before clear crystal water started sprinkling out of it in beautiful sprays and landed in the pool below.
Aunt Claire was the first one to walk down the steps of the porch and head closer to the completely ’now normal’ looking fountain. "The carps are back too." Her voice was low and barely audible as the shock had taken over the woman completely but both Sera and Garron still succeeded in hearing her words.
"What are you talking about, Aunt Claire? Those carps disappeared the very next day after the lords and the lady left." Garron was still having trouble believing the amount of magic he kept witnessing in the castle. His almost mortal upbringing had kept him away from magic almost all his life and he still had no idea just how powerful and impossible magic could be.
"But..." His expression changed the moment he reached the fountain and looked at the pool which was already filled halfway even though it barely came back to life just a moment ago. "... those carps are indeed back... all of them." He could hardly believe what he was seeing but the reality couldn’t be changed even though he kept thinking that those things seemed too impossible to happen.
"The garden..." Sera’s shocked-filled words made both Aunt Claire and Garron turn their attention to look at the garden that was slowly but very swiftly turning from its gloomy state into a beautiful place as the castle’s magic welcomed its masters.
The trees turned livelier and so did the vines and the grass. The flower plants that had been looking lifeless all this time suddenly became healthier with even a couple of flowers that bloomed out of nowhere. The castle building was once again covered in very healthy-looking vines and green moss and a soft cool breeze started blowing as the weather of the castle changed for good.
"What is going on? Why is this place suddenly returning to its previous look?" Sera asked as her eyes keenly ran all around her surroundings to grasp the exact amount of changes that were happening to the castle.
"Maybe it’s our lady..." Garron suddenly suggested as his eyes filled with sparkles at the thought of the Princess finally returning to the castle. He liked the castle more in its current state compared to its previous gloomy and dark state, and it seemed like only the lady of the house was able to make the place livelier with her presence.
Before either Sera or Aunt Claire would have gotten any chance to respond, their attention was pulled in the direction of the iron gates as the sound of horses galloping as they approached the castle.
"Is it really them?" Sera asked the question out loud to no one in particular as her heart pumped rapidly inside her chest while her gaze was fixed on the gate as she waited to see exactly who the people on the other side of the wall were.
"Who else would come here? It’s definitely our lady and the lords." Garron replied to Sera’s question as he passed by her side and followed behind Aunt Claire who was already heading in the direction of the iron gates.
Their curiosity was soon satiated as the most awaited people they had been waiting for ages appeared in front of the iron gates while riding their horses.
"My lady!"
"Oh, it’s the lady and the lords...!"
"Mr. Warren is back too..."
Everyone was rushing out of the castle to greet the masters of the castle who got down from their horses. Aunt Claire and Sera hurried to their Lady’s side but Lord Damien was already there to help her.
"My lady..." Sera was almost next to Annalise as soon as Lord Damien stepped away and to her utter surprise and happiness, the lady pulled her into a tight hug.
"It’s so good to see you again..." Annalise whispered before she pulled away from the hug and looked at Aunt Claire and Garron before continuing, "... I missed all of you so much... and this place too." Her gaze shifted to the castle looming ahead as she said the last few words.
"We are also so happy that you all are back." Aunt Claire said in response as she was also greeted with a warm hug from Annalise. "But my lady, where are Lord Valerius and the guests that you mentioned in your letter?" The old woman asked after pulling away from the hug as she failed to see the first dark lord or any mentioned guest.
"They are currently in the palace and will be back soon. Let’s get inside and prepare for their return in the little time that we have on our hands." Annalise replied as she started walking toward the iron gates and the beautiful view of ’home’ greeted her.
Garron and Kenric took the horses toward the stable while Sera and Aunt Claire moved to help Mr. Warren with the carts that he had brought from the capital filled with fresh vegetables, meats, fruits, wine, other kitchen essentials, drapes for windows, beddings, covers, blankets, new pillows, and even some furniture and decoration stuff.
Annalise gazed at the beautiful garden and the tall building in front of her as she spoke to Damien, "Mr. Warren kept apologizing for himself and the others for failing in keeping this place alive in our absence but as I now look at this place, I don’t think I have ever seen it looking better than this before."
