Chapter 153: Tear Bead
Chapter 153: Tear Bead
"Whoever is behind these attacks, they took away both the guardian bloodlines and the Wish Jewels but the guardian beasts were the only thing they couldn’t steal. We need to get those beasts out of those Portal Halls before the enemy can figure out a way
to do it on their own." Annalise was looking at her husbands with hope-filled eyes as she reminded them of tge guardian beats that were still somewhere hiding in those destroyed portal halls.
The dark lords shared a serious look with each other before Valerius finally turned his attention to her and spoke. "Annalise, don’t you know why the attackers weren’t able to take away the guardian beasts when they are nearly the most powerful and ancient blood linked to the portals but also the most vulnerable ones among all three guardians of a portal?"
"Of course, I’m aware. It’s because the guardian beasts are bonded with the portals and it’s impossible to separate the two without hurting the beasts. If the attacker would have tried to force them apart, he would have killed the beasts in the process, making his effort pointless." Annalise was pretty aware of the consequences of separating a beast from its bonded Portal.
"Still..." She continued as she looked right into Valerius’s ice-blue eyes, "... We got little snow out of that bond... We can try for the others..."
"And you needed to kill it for that, Annalise." Valerius’ deep and firm voice made her words falter as tge man stared back into her eyes. "Did you already forget? Your familiar died and only got separated from the portal after you revived it."
Annalise felt her entire body turning stiff as the realization dawned on her, she had completely forgotten about that part. It was indeed the little lion’s death that helped in the breaking of its bond with the Portal.
Damien’s hold tightened around her waist while she felt warmth radiating from the petal imprinted on her wrist next to her Moon Thread. The rest of her husbands were trying to support her emotionally in their own way but neither of them dared to say anything... mostly because Valerius was only speaking the truth.
"If you are confident..." Valerius’s words pulled her attention back toward the first dark lord as he continued, "... we can help and subdue all the remaining guardian beasts. We will kill them... but are you fully confident that you can revive all of them?"
Annalise felt her breathing becoming heavier as the entire attention and burden of the current predicament shifted on her. She opened her mouth to say something but no words were leaving her mouth. She clearly saved the little snow lion by mere coincidence, how could she then take the huge responsibility of saving the rest of the guardian beasts?
"Brother..." Kenric tried to speak in her defense but Annalise noticed Valerius giving his youngest brother a hard glare that silenced the latter immediately.
"You haven’t answered my question yet, Annalise. Do you think you can revive all the guardian divine beasts if we will drag them to the very edge of life and death so that the bond connecting them with the portals can be broken?" Valerius repeated the question, bringing Annalise’s attention back to him.
"I can’t..." Annalise shook her head rapidly as she tried to disappear into Damien’s embrace but that didn’t seem like something possible. She had no other option but to face everyone... including tge troubles and responsibilities that didn’t seem to be leaving her anytime soon.
She watched as Valerius stood up from his seat and moved to crouch in front of her as he took hold of both her hands and placed soft kisses on her knuckles before he looked directly into her eyes and spoke, "I know that you want to save them, Annalise. We all can feel your connection with the light that makes you feel responsible for anything or anyone related to light and also the love that you have for all the beings."
She didn’t respond and just watched him in silence as he spoke in a very soft and tender voice as if he was talking to a child. "We can’t kill all those guardian beasts, not only because it’s not an easy job but also because we have no way to guarantee that your powers will be enough to revive them right before their last breath. That’s too much of a risk and a great burden that I don’t want you to shoulder."
Annalise felt a single tear finally breaking through the confinements of her eye and rolling down her cheek before it landed right on Damien’s palm. The droplet immediately turned into a small bead as he used his powers and it made Annalise smile a little.
Valerius wiped away the trace of the tear from her cheek before he placed a kiss right on her eye that had just shed the tear. "Trust us, wife. We will find a way to get those guardian beasts out of the Portal Halls without them facing much of consequences. I have already put spells on all three Portal Halls, we will know if someone tried to harm them. Just give me some time to find a way. Okay?"
Annalise quickly nodded her head in agreement as she finally felt herself relaxing. As long as they can get the guardian beasts out of the Portal Halls safely, she was ready to wait for a while. "I will also try to help you to find a way."
Valerius smiled warmly at her as he placed another kiss on her cheek before pulling away slightly to look at her as he spoke, "Now cheer up and get ready, we should be leaving soon."
"Where are we going?" Annalise asked as she had no idea about their next destination. Their initial plan for visiting Lakeshire had been disturbed a long time ago and now many things had entered their priority lists, this made it hard for her to guess what they all were going to do next.
"We are going home, wife."
