Chapter 130: In The Middle of the Night

Annalise was pulled out of her thoughts when she heard movement outside in the hallway. She hurriedly put back everything in the pouch before securely placing the pouch inside her previous pouch that was still dangling on her waist before she moved toward the door of her room right as someone started knocking on it.

As she opened the door, she was surprised to find a very angry-looking Leela standing there. The girl barged inside as room as the door opened, leaving one of the dragon shifters, who had followed her to the room, standing there at the entrance.

Annalise quickly shared a look between the two of them before she turned her full attention to the man and questioned, "What’s going on? What happened to her?"

The man let out a deep sigh as he shook his head before answering. "Don’t worry too much, My Lady. It’s just the usual shit between her and Ezra. It seems like these two are born to piss each other off. I’ll be taking my leave now."

Annalise found herself nodding her head as she quickly spared a glance at Leela who was sitting in the farthest corner of the bed. She was about to close the door when the man returned and stopped her midway. "What is it?"

"My lady, Ezra asked me to inform you that we will be leaving right at dawn. Please have an early rest." The man bowed his head politely before he walked away.

She watched the man until his silhouette disappeared from her sight and only when she was sure that he won’t be returning, did she close the door and moved toward the bed where Leela was perched in the corner with her eyes glaring at the wall.

Without saying anything or asking any questions, she just silently started getting ready for bed as she took off her jewelry and let her hair loose which was a mass of curls because of keeping them braided for the entire day, still the curls only made them look prettier.

Instead of the white dress that she had been wearing throughout the day, she changed into a set of loose silk trousers and a matching cover-up. Changing her socks and after running a wet cloth over her face, hands, and around her neck, she finally headed toward the bed and hurriedly climbed under the sheets.

Leela, who had been silently watching her all this while finally decided to speak up, "Are you not going to ask what really happened back there?" She sounded quite a lot less agitated compared to when she first returned to the room.

Annalise turned to her side to face the girl as she rested her head against the pillow comfortably and replied, "What is there to ask? That man already explained that you fought with Ezra."

Leela let out a sigh as she clicked her fingers and her clothes magically turned into a comfortable night dress but fore she too moved under the covers and laid down on the bed while facing Annalise. "That man seriously gets on my nerves. At this rate, we will surely end up killing each other."

Talk about stating facts!

The two of them remained silent for a while before Leela finally decided to speak again and this time, her voice sounded way more serious than before. "The problem is that I didn’t find out about anything when I went to their room. I was hoping to eavesdrop but unfortunately, the timing was so wrong because a servant was entering the room with a couple of wine bottles and the men noticed me too. It seems like they are planning to get drunk and sleep through the night."

Annalise didn’t reply immediately as she considered the possibilities of what the men were really planning. She still remembered Damien’s warning and she had a strong feeling deep down that things weren’t as simple as they seemed.

Thankfully, even though Leela failed in finding out anything useful, Little Lion was still out there gathering information that would probably answer at least one of their many questions.

"Shouldn’t we sleep if we are really going to depart at dawn? It seems like the following day will be even more tiring than today. Hope we will soon catch that trespasser and find out what this is all about." Leela muttered as she closed her eyes and took in a deep breath before retiring to sleep.

Annalise didn’t stop the girl as she could tell that she was really tired. Instead, she too closed her eyes and decided to rest while waiting for the little lion’s return.

Seconds turned into minutes and minutes into hours, and both Annalise and Leela were in deep sleep when the former was shaken awake by the Little Snow Lion who jumped on reg bed and landed right in her belly, making her groan out loud in pain.

Leela was also awake by the sudden disturbance and a sword was immediately in her hands as soon as she noticed the little beast.

"It’s alright, it’s mine." Annalise quickly stopped the girl before she could have signed her sword at her little not-so-innocent beast.

"Really? Its actions say otherwise though." Leela muttered as she put her sword away and took a seat on the bed while keeping her eyes trained on the little snow that was staring back at her in return.

"Can’t you be a little gentle? You almost took my life with that stunt of yours." Annalise reprimanded the little lion as she flicked one of its little ears.

The little beast hurriedly turned to face her with an intense loom in its small amber eyes. ’Master, you should hurry. Those men are going out to meet someone. They just left after making sure that you both have fallen asleep. You have to leave right now or we won’t be able to catch up.’

It took Annalise a couple of very precious moments to register exactly what was going on before she finally found herself moving. She grabbed her shoes and her cloak as she ordered Leela, "Let’s go and see what those men are really up to."
