Chapter 119: The Second Elements

Annalise watched in silence as the lush trees passed by while she and her husbands rode forward on their horses. The trees and bushes were almost passing in a blur as they were riding at a very fast speed.

It was early in the morning and they still needed a couple of hours to arrive at Lakeshire Town. While her husbands seemed really serious about whatever secret mission they had to complete in the town, Annalise was still clueless about what was so important that they were going to do in such a faraway place.

"What are you thinking about so deeply?" Kenric asked while pulling her out of the deep ocean of her thoughts. One of his hands was securely wrapped around her waist while the other was holding the reigns of his horse.

Annalise let out a small sigh as she relaxed into her husband’s arm. "How come I have no idea that you guys have control over more than one element?" She asked the question that had been bugging her non-stop ever since the previous night.

Kenric remained silent for a couple of seconds as if he wasn’t expecting such a question from her and was unaware of how to answer her but he finally did after a while. "Not all three of us, only Valerius and I possess second elements, Damien’s shadow powers already gave him the possession of various unique skills that’s why he never tried to control another element. Besides, with me and Valerius each having two elements, and Damien with his shadow powers, we make the perfect and complete circle of elemental magic."

Annalise listened carefully and tried to read between his lines, searching for the information that he wasn’t providing directly to her but still giving the needed hints. "So, up ur second power isn’t from birth but something that you learned to control later."

She wasn’t really asking for information because she already knew that such a thing was indeed possible but was mostly adopted by either those from the royal families or those from the higher classes. Not only that but only one among thousands of people had the ability to master another element if they were already born with the possession of one element.

Obviously, being born with an elemental core inside their bodies was also not a simple thing, it only happened if the child belonged to a powerful family who also had natural control over elements.

Finding that all her husbands were not only born with different elemental cores but they were also strong enough to take control of other elements, she was beyond surprised. Every time she thought that her husbands won’t be able to shock her further with their secrets, they end up proving her wrong.

"Exactly! Valerius had ice core but he was barely five months old when he picked his second element. As for me, I picked my second element when I turned seven years old while Damien decided to focus his entire attention to learn all the secrets, spells, charms, and runes of his shadow power."

"Since everyone knew just how powerful the shadow element was, no one ever forced him to learn to control another element. And the three of us grew up with control over the five main elements of our world among us, we are the perfect bond to exist with a complete circle of elemental powers." Kenric seemed more than happy to give her more information.

Annalise once again took her time to analyze the information that she just got from her husband. She had learned about the shadow powers and considering the fact that it was the main element of the Midnight Realm, it was clearly superior to the rest of the elements. She could see why Damien was more interested in exploring his shadow powers instead of learning to control another element.

Her brain then moved its focus on Valerius and she tried to recall if she had ever encountered his second element. From what Damien told her the previous night, she was able to bond with Valerius because her powers had already found both his elements a perfect match while her powers were still oblivious to Kenric’s second element.

"Is Valerius’ second element air?" She finally asked after several long moments had passed. She only came to that conclusion because she recalled the presence of air element in the Portal Hall while Valerius was using his powers.

"It is," Kenric replied without missing a simple beat. His answer made it obvious that his own second element was none other than the earth.

"It’s so weird. I can’t recall ever coming across his air element ever before the Portal Hall incident." She whispered with her voice filled with confusion as she tried to recall if she had ever felt the presence of the first dark lord’s air element.

"It’s impossible, Little Bird. The first element of Valerius that you made a connection with was actually his air element and not the ice element. You probably just never really realized it." Kenric told her as he slowed down their horse as they were about to once again enter a forest but this one was way smaller and completely devoid of any great danger.

"Really?" Annalise found this new information hard to digest. She closed her eyes and focused on her bond with Valerius and immediately felt it filling with a warmth that was completely opposite to his ice powers.

"Is it this warmth that I feel every time he’s around me?" She found herself asking as she let her powers caress the bond and the warm feeling that was filling it.

"You are actually smart, Little Bird." Kenric praised her and she could almost see him smiling only through his words. "Remember when you said that his ice powers represent coldness, absence of love, and negativity, but he’s nothing like that?"

Annalise nodded her head in response as she did recall that moment and somehow, she already knew what he wanted to tell her.
