Chapter 113: The Creature Attacked
"What is it?" Annalise asked curiously, wanting to know what he was talking about. After all, she really wanted to see the strengths that Damien and Kenric were hiding from her.
So far, she knew that Valerius excelled in spells, and she had an inkling that Damien’s strength and uniqueness were his shadow powers as he was the heir of the shadow, whatever that meant. But as for Kenric, she was still unable to guess what was his actual strong point, though she was sure that he had one.
"I’m not telling you," Kenric responded as he gave her a little wink before turning his attention toward Valerius and Damien as the latter had already finished drawing the rune.
She gave him an unimpressed look but the man no longer paid any attention to her and just kept his attention focused on his brothers.
Damien made his way to where she and Kenric were standing and came to stand beside her while Valerius prepared to cast the spell.
She felt both her husbands reaching out for her hands at the same time and as she looked down at her hands, she found them entangling their fingers with hers as they held her hands in a strong and comforting grip.
She turned her attention back to Valerius as the man started casting the spell. She didn’t miss the immediate change in the air as the magic started taking shape. She found herself closing her eyes as she felt her own powers reacting to his ice powers, they wanted to come out and join him.
She found herself looking at a sea of magical energy behind her closed eyes, it seemed like a never-ending abyss of all types of powers coming together but two particular powers stood out more than others - ice and air.
She knew that the ice powers belonged to Valerius but the powerful presence of air powers surprised her. However, what really surprised her the most was the absence of energy form of her own powers.
She couldn’t find any particular energy responding to her call, instead, they all seemed to respond simultaneously whenever she tugged on her powers. Her power probably didn’t have a special energy because she didn’t really master any particular elemental magic. She was just able to perform some spells with whatever magical ability she held.
A sudden wave of disturbance through the sea of power energies had her pulled out of her thoughts and as she opened her eyes, she was almost blinded by the huge amount of light that was filling the hall.
A loud screeching sound made her turn to her left but she found herself blocked by Damien as the dark lord had a shield of transparent obsidian glass protecting them from their attacker.
"What is this thing?" She asked as Kenric pulled her beside him as he called out his daggers that were shining brightly surrounded by his fire energy, ready to kill whoever would come in their contact.
"Valerius’ spell was supposed to bring out anything hidden or hiding, in this place that wasn’t a part of it and this is what we got, a rogue creature out for our blood," Kenric answered as he covered her with his huge frame and made sure to hide her from the creature that was screeching at the top of its lungs.
Annalise covered her ears as she felt like her eardrums were on the verge of splitting at the horrible sound of the creature that she hadn’t seen. She looked around the area, searching for Valerius as he wasn’t present inside the protective ward that Damien had created around them.
"Where is Valerius?" She asked Kenric when she didn’t find the first dark lord anywhere as far as her eyes could see without going blind as the light was still pretty intense. She wondered what was the source of such a bright light.
"He’s out there trying to subdue the creature. Don’t worry, he will be fine." Kenric was quick to assure her and she also felt a little tug on her shared bond with Valerius as the man also sent her a similar message through their bond as if he sensed her worry for him.
"Stay here inside the protection ward. Don’t come out unless we say so." Damien told her as he gave her a serious look and only left the protection of the ward with Kenric when she finally nodded her head in understanding.
The bright light made it impossible for her to see anything that was happening outside the ward but she felt her husbands joining forces as their powers emerged in the air and started overtaking the dark energy that had taken over the Portal Hall at some point.
She felt them morphing their powers into forces to attack whatever creature it was out there while she was left inside the protection ward oblivious to everything going on outside.
Several long minutes passed before everything suddenly came to silence and she watched the bright light slowly disappearing into nothingness. It took around half a minute before the hall was back to darkness and the ward made it hard for her to look at the outside area even with her enhanced eyesight.
A surprised gasp escaped her lips when Kenric suddenly appeared beside her and almost startled her. The man immediately wrapped one of his arms around her shoulders before the ward disappeared and she was allowed to move.
The five moonstones were still hanging in the air, illuminating the hall while Valerius and Damien stood around something that was lying on the ground.
Annalise grabbed Kenric’s hand tightly as she slowly walked closer to her other husbands. Her heart was beating rapidly as her eyes were fixed on the creature. "Is it dead?" She found herself asking even before she laid her eyes on it.
"Not yet but probably soon," Kenric answered as he brought her to stand next to Damien.
She finally got to see the creature properly and instantly felt her heart filling with agony as her gaze met with its piercing amber eyes that were losing their energy.
