Chapter 112: Words of Power

Valerius and Kenric entered the room and headed toward Damien and Annalise as the youngest dark lord commented on Damien’s confession. "Don’t even dare to think about something like this. I won’t let you snatch away my litter bird."

Unlike his words, his tone was as playful as the look on his face and Annalise heard Damien letting out a small scoff before he took a step away from her but still kept one of his hands wrapped around her waist.

She shook her head while letting out a small sigh as Kenric came to stand right next to her and gave her a huge smile that was filled with warmth, affection, and also a little bit of fun. The man was really full of never-ending energy and he was definitely the funniest among the brothers.

Her eyes then found the last man who completed the circle of her newly married life and found him looking back at her with a soft look in his beautiful blue eyes. She found herself returning his warm smile even without realizing that she was doing it.

Valerius then turned his attention to Damien and spoke, "We should apologize for neglecting something so serious. We were so focused on keeping Annalise company and also on the matter of this Portal Hall issue that we completely forgot about the attention and care that you too needed from your soulmate."

"He’s right. We are really sorry for our ignorance, Damien." Kenric quickly added as the smile disappeared from his face and he appeared quite serious while giving an apologetic look to his second brother. "We should have known better."

Damien nodded his head as if accepting their apologies before he spoke, "Don’t feel too bad. I’m aware of our current situation and I know very well that right now, we don’t have any other option than to continue with our task. Besides, as long as I can have her beside me, I’ll be fine."

He gave Annalise’s waist a little squeeze as he spoke the last sentence and it made her close the litter distance between their bodies before wrapping her hands around him. She was aware that her other two husbands were observing her but didn’t feel either uncomfortable or embarrassed as she hugged Damien in front of Valerius and Kenric.

"I’m sorry too. I know every little about soulmates or soulmate bonds, and I had no idea that you were struggling like this. I should have paid more attention." She also apologized as she felt bad for not realizing just how much Damien needed her.

Damien was about to speak, probably tell her that she didn’t need to be sorry, but she didn’t allow him as she turned her attention to Valerius and asked, "Can you give me some books or records on soulmates and soulmate bonds? If you guys will personally try to tell me all about it, a lot of our precious time will be wasted, so I can try to learn a little bit on my own, and you can teach me the rest."

The three men shared a quick look before Valerius nodded his head. "Alright. I’ll give you some books that might be able to explain the bond and how it works." He then took a step closer to her and moved his face against her ear as he whispered, "A little advice... theory can be best learned by using it practically and learning from it."

When he pulled his face away after a moment, there was a glow in his eyes that made Annalise finally understand the hidden meaning of his words. He was implying something that she couldn’t understand yet but she knew that he was teasing her. Just what kind of books was he going to give her?

There was silence for a few minutes before Kenric finally spoke and raised the question that was almost buzzing in everyone’s mind. "Our search isn’t helping us at all. We haven’t found anything helpful so far and it seems like there isn’t any clue here that could tell us anything about the incident two decades ago. What are we going to do now?"

All their eyes were set on Valerius as he was the only one they expected to come up with a solution or at least a plan that could help them move forward with their investigation. He was almost like the leader of their team if they were one, to begin with.

Valerius first look at the three of them before he looked around the room and let out a sigh. Nodding his head slowly, he finally replied, "We can try using spells to find if anything is hidden here that our eyes aren’t able to detect. I hope we will be able to find something with that."

Damien and Kenric nodded their heads in understanding while Annalise was only thinking about seeing Valerius using another unique spell. The first dark lord was undoubtedly good when it came to spells, he was on a level of perfection where it was a pleasure to the eyes of the viewer to witness him perform any spell.

"Then let’s head to the center hall. It will be the perfect place to set the range of the place far enough to include this entire place." Damien suggested and everyone was moving almost immediately.

The four of them left the sleeping quarters and headed toward the center half where the portal was located. Annalise’s eyes landed on the portal and she found herself thinking about the weird case that they had found themselves entangled in. Who would have thought that a single complaint to the King would open up such an old case that was filled with suspicions and doubts?

"I wish these portals could also show us the history that had taken place in front of them..." She whispered so softly that she wondered if anyone would have heard her at all.

Little did she know that her words carried more power than she could have ever imagined...!

Annalise watched as Valerius stepped into the center of the huge hall and Damien started creating some sort of hologram around his brother.

"Is that a rune? I think they were only used by the dark..." The rest of the words disappeared from her thoughts as realization once again hit her. She almost forgot the real identity of her husbands. They were from the Midnight Realm, meaning... they were dark faes.

"I remembered reading about the runes. The book said that each rune carries a different amount of powers and the type of runes used by different races in the Midnight Realm are also different but the faes hold the most powerful runes as they are the most powerful midnight race followed by vampires." She commented as she stood beside Kenric as they both watched the other two lords working on the rune and the spell.

"You got that right. Dark Faes hold the most powerful runes that ever existed in the history of the Midnight realm and each dark fae has access to a different amount of runes. The runes are divided into different categories based on their powers and whether a particular person can use those runes or not depends on whether they are powerful enough or not." Kenric provided a little bit more information that Annalise had also learned through the books on ten Midnight Realms.

"Then what about Lord Valerius? How powerful are the runes that he can use?" She couldn’t help but feel curious to know about her husbands and the amount of power they possessed.

Kenric turned his face to look at her with a small smile playing on his lips as he asked, "What do you think? Does he look like he can use really powerful runes?"

Annalise didn’t waste even a single second before she hurriedly nodded her head in affirmative. "He does. He seems like someone who is really powerful among the Dark Faes." Only after the words were already out of her mouth did she realize her mistake - calling Valerius so powerful somehow indicated that the other two lords were inferior to their brother.

However, she was surprised when Kenric suddenly nodded his head with a huge smile on his face, the look on his face screamed that he was not only satisfied with her answer but also proud of his eldest brother. "You are right. He’s indeed the most powerful among the Dark Faes. He was born to be that powerful and it’s his destiny."

"What about you and Damien then?" She found herself asking as her curiosity only got deeper and deeper with the amount of interest he was showing in their discussion.

"We?" Kenric looked a little surprised to find the topic suddenly shifting to him and Damien from Valerius but he was quick to collect himself before he replied, "Both of us are indeed not a match to Valerius but that doesn’t mean we are ordinary. There are some things about both of us that can make even Valerius look inferior to us..."
