Chapter 42: I will do as I desire

Magnus opened the blindfold from Alora’s eyes and saw they were damp. She kept her gaze down and felt his thumbs on her eyes.

"Open them," he urged her, "for me."

Alora promptly did that and peered into his eyes. "I should not cry today. But I-I am un-unable to hold them." The tears rolled over her cheeks as she began weeping. Venus’s words hurt her like someone stabbed her heart. The pain she could still experience.

Magnus wiped the tears from her eyes. "She will be punished soon. I won’t hear a single word on this from you," he stated. He was fuming in anger to see Alora cry. All she wanted Venus to know was something, which could change her life forever.

"No. Don’t do that," Alora said and once again she lowered her eyes. She sniffled and rested her head on his chest. Her arms wrapped around him. "I should have listened to His Highness," she murmured.

Magnus wasn’t the type of person to stay quiet. He had decided he would make Venus cry in the worst possible way.

"Prince Magnus, Alora, what are you two doing here?" They both heard Rhea’s voice from the door.

Alora was swift to pull away and she wiped her tears while Magnus told Rhea to not come forward. "She hasn’t worn the blindfold. We will be outside soon," he said.

Rhea halted at her place and nodded at him. She wondered if Alora was fine. But in the presence of the prince, nothing could happen to her. She walked away while Alora took a breath of relief.

Magnus pivoted to meet her gaze. The back of his fingers caressed her cheek. "Do you wish to attend the wedding or shall we leave for the palace?" He left the decision to her. Although, he wished to take her right away since he could not bear the sight of Venus.

"We should attend the wedding," Alora opined. She was devastated after hearing Venus’s harsh words to her. But she could not leave since she didn’t want anyone else to know about it.

They soon reached the garden and took their seat. Izaak observed that his brother looked annoyed while his sister-in-law appeared gloomy to him. Did the meeting with Venus not go well? Keeping his questions to himself, Izaak directed his gaze to the altar.

Venus soon entered the aisle with her father, feeling delighted that she would get married to a man with supernatural abilities. While Alora was focused on the wedding processions, Magnus had his eyes on her.

’If Venus could affect her this much, I wonder how she will cope with her mother’s death. I need to prevent it. I cannot see Alora crying and blaming herself.’

He came out of his thoughts only when Alora asked him a question.

"Why do you care if they look good or bad?" Magnus’s answer showed his annoyance. Seeing her face, he continued with a half-hearted glance, "They look great."

The wedding ended soon, bringing applause from the families of the groom and bride and guests.

"A dance?" Alora heard how the couple joined the bride and groom, where others could join them for it. She wanted to always feel what a dance felt like with your partner. But she didn’t know a couple dance.

"Shall we go for a dance?" Magnus suddenly asked her, his hand found hers.

"I don’t know how to dance?" Alora replied.

"But I have the knowledge," Magnus answered and left his seat. He pulled up Alora and she moved to him. "And you’ll dance without the blindfold," he pronounced, taking it off.

Izaak smiled to see how his brother would make others terrified in Alora’s presence.

"Your Highness, this is my–" Her words caught off in her mouth as Magnus placed his finger on her lips.

"Her wedding is over. Now, I will do as I desire," Magnus declared, making his way towards the grander stage constructed on the other side for dancing.

Norman glanced in their direction and noticed Alora without her blindfold. Concerned, he immediately informed Rhea, thinking she might intervene. However, Rhea chose not to interfere. She believed Alora deserved to enjoy these moments of her life, and Magnus served as a protective presence, ensuring nothing wrong would happen in his presence.

As the guests noticed Alora without her blindfold for the first time, whispers rippled through the crowd. "The Princess is exceptionally beautiful," murmured one guest after another.

Meanwhile, Eugene and Venus had already taken their place on the platform prepared for the dance. As the music started, they began their graceful movements, drawing others to join them. Soon, even their parents joined in, adding to the joyous atmosphere of the dance floor.

However, as Magnus and Alora stepped onto the dance floor, a hush fell over the crowd, bringing the dancing to a sudden stop, including the groom and bride themselves.

"You claimed your sister lacked beauty," Eugene remarked to Venus, caught off guard by Alora’s presence. "But she is no less than a goddess," he whispered in awe.

Venus’s heart burned with jealousy, her grip on Eugene’s shoulder tightening, drawing his attention to her. "You shouldn’t praise another woman in front of me," she declared.

"I’m only complimenting your sister. Nobody has ever seen her without the blindfold. She is quite graceful, but you are no lesser than that," Eugene reassured her.

"Please resume your dances. There’s no need to get distracted by us. Alora won’t look at anyone, so you all are safe," Magnus interjected.

Alora felt nervous, her heart pounding against her chest. She sensed all eyes were suddenly on her, a situation she hadn’t anticipated.

When Magnus stood in front of her, she met his gaze. He drew her close and guided her right hand to rest on his shoulder.

"The other couples had resumed their dances," Magnus observed.

"What do I need to do?" Alora inquired, seeking guidance.

"Trust me," Magnus replied with assurance. With a swift motion, he swirled her, causing Alora to gasp in surprise before he smoothly executed a dip, catching her off guard.

She ended up smiling because her heart filled with a joyous feeling she never got before.
