Chapter 41: The family of werewolves
As the princes approached closer to Alora, Elliot took his leave promptly. Magnus and Izaak sat down in their seats. "The groom’s family is here," Magnus informed her.
"How does the groom look?" Alora inquired in excitement.
"He looks good," Magnus gave a plain response.
"Eugene is the Duke’s son. Does His Highness know Duke Benedict?" Alora inquired him.
"No," Magnus refused.
"I know him. Benedict is the Duke of the North to look into the administration of humans and even werewolves. There were rumors that they turned into wolves," Izaak asserted.
"There were?" Magnus arched his eyebrows.
"Yes. I know you have been away from all these matters for a long time, but you always ignore the important news. Tobias told me you didn’t even know about Alora’s eyes the day you brought her to Elmswood palace," Izaak muttered.
"Because I never cared about all such matters," Magnus shrugged his shoulders. "So what about the rumors? Has Benedict’s family converted to werewolves?" He inquired with a curious gaze.
"How is that possible? Father would not have given Venus’s hand to the Iverson family if he knew about it," Alora stated.
"There were rumors. I don’t know the entire truth. There’s no werewolf scent emanating from them. So, I believe they are humans," Izaak replied.
"They are werewolves," Magnus said. "They have hidden the scent," he affirmed as he read Benedict’s mind.
Both Alora and Izaak were shocked to learn that. "My sister cannot get wedded in a werewolf family. We should stop this," Alora said.
"We should not get involved, Wife. Your sister will not believe us," Magnus explained to her.
"But my sister will be stuck after marriage. Eugene will turn her into a werewolf. I heard they undergo a lot of pain. I don’t wish to see Venus in pain," Alora said with a concerned expression.
"Magnus, why do you think they have hidden their scent?" Izaak asked. "It can be for a bigger reason," he added, wondering what it could be.
"I want to see Venus. I should at least tell her the truth," Alora asserted.
"And what if she doesn’t listen to you?" Magnus asked.
"I think she will," Alora answered.
Magnus sighed and he pinched the skin between his brows. "Come," He helped her stand up and took her inside the house. Izaak, on the other hand, enjoyed the slow sips of the wine.
"What if Venus raises your voice at you? She is kind of upset seeing his sister with a prince while she herself is getting married to a commoner," Magnus remarked. He stopped a servant and asked her about Venus. "Princess Alora wants to see her sister," he stated.
"Please this way, Your Highnesses," the servant humbly said and led their way to Venus’s room. She informed Venus about Magnus and Alora’s visit to her.
"Hmm. You can send them in," Venus said. She had no intention of seeing Alora, but the moment she heard Magnus was with her, she could not refuse to let them in.
Venus put a fake smile over her lips and decided to remain warm toward Alora in front of Magnus. However, to her surprise, only Alora walked in. She approached Alora and hugged her. "I’m glad you have come to my wedding day. I wish you could look at me and see how beautiful I look today," Venus said and withdrew from the hug.
"Prince Magnus didn’t come inside," Venus asked.
"His Highness thinks we sisters should talk in private," Alora opined. "I have to tell you something, Venus," she asserted while being a bit hesitant.
"Yes, say?"
"The Iverson family has turned into werewolves. Does Father know about this?" Alora asked.
"What did you say?" Venus chuckled and the smile disappeared from her lips. "You really want to ruin my day, don’t you?" she got angry at Alora.
"Don’t take me wrong, Venus. I only wanted to make you aware of the Iverson family identity," Alora said.
"Shut your mouth. You are jealous of me. Grandma was right. I should have requested Father and Mother not to call you to my marriage," Venus pronounced. She was mad at Alora and wanted to throw her out right away from her sight.
Magnus, who was outside, didn’t come in although he could hear everything happening inside the room. He wanted Alora to see the reality of her sister. However, he was ready to defend Alora anytime Venus would cross the line.
"Venus, why would I be jealous of you? I’m extremely delighted that you finally are getting married. You know well for you, I left for Elmswood. Don’t be angry. Forgive me if I hurt you in any way," Alora said as she held her sister’s hands.
Venus yanked her hands away. "You returned to ruin my happiness too. So many people died that night because of you. Yet, you had no remorse for their lives. Instead, you became the reason for their deaths," she affirmed.
"What if the Iverson are the family of werewolves? Didn’t you marry Prince Magnus because he was a vampire? You must want to live a long life and kill others with your eyes. I wish I never had a sister like you. That night, you should have died, Alora," Venus blurted out.
Alora’s heart shattered into pieces to hear those words. Her eyes filled with tears and she faltered. A familiar pair of warm hands held her shoulders, thus keeping her intact at a place.
"I hate people like you," Magnus said as he glared into Venus’s eyes. "Do you think I can keep you alive after what you said to her? My Alora isn’t blind, but you are. You didn’t get such a unique ability like her. That’s why you are jealous of her."
"Please, don’t say that," Alora requested him as she turned around to face him. "I was wrong. I always bring unhappiness. Let’s leave, Your Highness," she urged, tightly holding his sleeves.
"Don’t stop me today. She has crossed the limit. You are a princess, not a commoner, whom not anyone can say anything," Magnus stated. His anger was visible on his face.
Venus was scared to hear that. But she remained steadfast in her words. "Your Highness, I said nothing wrong. She was ready to break my marriage," she proclaimed.
"Don’t come to Alora begging her to save you. Also, this is the last time you have said all these wrong things to her. You are the one who is jealous thinking your elder sister got a prince as her husband. Just because Alora loves you a lot, I will let you go. But this is the last time," Magnus warned her and took away Alora from there.
