Chapter 293: Not in your nature

Chapter 293: Not in your nature

"Magnus, you took a long time to return," Alora said, her voice tinged with curiosity and a hint of concern.

Elliot glanced at the prince, knowing how he requested Magnus to keep all that happened earlier a secret from Alora. Magnus met his gaze briefly, a silent promise passing between them.

"We were just wandering around the academy," Magnus replied smoothly, honoring his promise to Elliot.

Izaak and Alaric exchanged skeptical glances, clearly doubting Magnus’s explanation, but chose to remain silent. They knew better than to challenge the prince’s words in front of Alora.

"Well, it’s time for us to leave," Izaak announced, rising from his seat with a purposeful air. Alaric and Griffin followed suit, their expressions carefully neutral.

"I’ll see you to the carriage," Elliot offered with a warm smile, trying to ease the tension. The others nodded in agreement, and they all made their way out of the room.

As they stepped into the grand hallway, the ornate decor reflecting the dim evening light, Cora Kline awaited them in front of the giant gates.

"Everything is ready," Cora said, her voice calm and steady, as she led the way to the waiting carriage.

Alora hugged her brother tightly, telling him to take care of himself. She detached from the hug with misty eyes and waved at Elliot. She entered the carriage and sat near the window.

Magnus gave Cora a final glance and a pat to Elliot on his shoulder before entering the carriage.

The coachman shut the door from outside and instructed the chauffeur to drive the carriage. Alora opened the window and gazed back at Elliot, who waved at her with a mix of sadness and happiness. As the carriage rolled away, Elliot remained rooted in place, his eyes following until it disappeared from sight.

"Elliot, let’s go in," Cora’s authoritative voice broke the silence, drawing his attention back to his surroundings.

He nodded at the Head Mistress and fell in step behind her, his mind still on what happened earlier.

"From now onward, if anything happens to you, do inform me about it. You cannot possibly let go of such incidents knowing the fact you are related to the royal family," Cora said, her tone brokering no argument yet laced with concern.

"I won’t hide anything from this moment if such an incident occurs, Madam Cora," Elliot assured her, understanding the gravity of his promise.

"Good. You should return to your dormitory," Cora stated, her tone softening slightly. Elliot bowed respectfully and walked away, feeling her gaze on his back until he turned the corner.

As he walked through the quiet hallways, his thoughts turned to the recent arrival of Magnus, whose presence had sent a sense of fear over the academy. Despite this, Elliot couldn’t help but feel a sense of protection knowing Magnus was there. A small smile curved his lips as he entered his dormitory.

Venus sat in the gazebo, nibbling on the fresh berries she had picked earlier. The gentle rustle of leaves and the distant chirping of birds created a serene backdrop as she contemplated the upcoming celebration. She wanted it to be simple yet enjoyable.

’I think I should invite their friends, at least,’ she mused. ’It’s fine if they will speak against me. I did wrong, and I need to hear such taunts for a while. But my parents’ happiness shouldn’t be compromised because of this.’

Despite the potential for uncomfortable confrontations, Venus had made up her mind. She would invite only a select few, the close friends of her parents who mattered most. This was not just about mending fences but also about honoring her parents’ joy.

Venus carefully prepared the invitation cards, choosing each word with care. With the help of her most trusted servants, she ensured the invitations were delivered promptly. As she finished the last of her tasks, she felt a sense of accomplishment mixed with trepidation.

Suddenly, the rain began to pour, a heavy curtain of water drumming on the roof of the gazebo. Venus looked out at the deluge, realizing she was effectively trapped. The distance from the gazebo to her house was too great.

Resigned to waiting out the storm, she leaned back in her chair, the cool air heavy with the scent of rain and earth. She stared blankly at the sheets of rain cascading around her, lost in thoughts of her past and the uncertain future.

Odin’s voice cut through the peaceful ambiance as Venus found him standing before her, sheltered beneath an umbrella. Raindrops tinkled against the fabric of his overcoat.

"What are you doing here? Didn’t I explicitly tell you to stay inside?" Odin’s concern tinged his voice, though it carried a hint of reproach.

"I’ve been out here for over three hours. Why must you always reprimand me?" Venus muttered, her expression a mix of frustration and defiance.

She observed Odin carefully as he leaned the umbrella against a sturdy gazebo pillar and drew out a chair, his posture stern yet protective.

"You know you’re not supposed to wander away from the house like this. It’s for your safety," Odin asserted, his gaze unwavering.

"But we’re still within the residence grounds," Venus countered, crossing her arms defensively. "Surely you’re not suggesting you were worried about me?"

"Why would I be worried for you?" Odin chuckled softly, his fingers raking through his damp hair as rain continued to patter around them.

"Exactly. There’s no need for you to worry about me," Venus replied, her tone firm yet tinged with a touch of warmth as she noticed his discomfort.

Retrieving a handkerchief from her pocket, she gently wiped the water droplets from his forehead and cheek. He turned slightly to meet her gaze, surprised by her unexpected tenderness.

"You’ve got water droplets all over your forehead and face," Venus whispered.

"When did you become so gentle?" Odin asked, his brows furrowing slightly in genuine curiosity.

"Do you always have to taunt me like this?" Venus responded with a mixture of amusement and exasperation.

"It’s not in your nature to be so gentle," Odin remarked playfully, a fond smile touching his lips.
