After Alaric departed, Izaak turned to Magnus, seeking his opinion on whether they should monitor their second brother more closely. "At this point, he’s lost all sense of discernment, willing to forsake right for wrong just for Ember," Izaak remarked.

Magnus nodded in agreement. "Yes, I think we should."

Izaak then glanced at Zerah, who was standing quietly in the room. "Fetch Jasper," he commanded. At Magnus’s subtle nod, the maidservant began pouring glasses of wine for the two princes.

As Zerah left, Izaak returned his gaze to Magnus. "I thought you would not be bothered about this matter," he remarked.

"Why does Brother Izaak think that I will neglect to see our brother, Alaric, suffer? I do get worried for him," Magnus answered, bringing the cup close to his mouth.

"So, you two are here!" King Esmond’s voice reached their ears and the two immediately left their seats to see their father after setting the wine cups on the table.

The two bowed to their father, who stepped toward them and finally took a pause.

"I heard you all have gone outside to see a witch," King Esmond said and sat down first. He already had instructed the valet to bring Alaric into the room. His forearms rested on the handrests of the sofa chair as he put his right leg above the left one.

Gesturing to his sons, he asked the maidservant to pour a drink for him as well.

"Father seems to know everything about his kids these days," Magnus commented.

"It has become necessary," King Esmond answered and grabbed the cup. "When I was reported about my kids’ outing, I felt it would be for some enjoyment until I realized it was to meet a witch called Dolores. What has been cooking here?" He gazed at the two of them with skepticism.

"Greetings to Father," Alaric entered the room.

"Hmm. Take a seat, Alaric," King Esmond said and took a sip of wine.

As Alaric sat down, he felt their father already knew the matter.

"Alaric, will you answer me? Why did my all kids go to meet Dolores?" King Esmond inquired. Although he already knew the matter, he wanted to hear from his son.

Alaric briefly explained why they had to meet Dolores, clasping his hands together anxiously, wondering if he would be scolded.

"Isn’t Ember the same woman you once desired to marry?" King Esmond asked, his brows knitting together.

"Yes, Father," Alaric replied. "I apologize for disturbing everyone," he added earnestly.

"Why did you promise another man’s wife that you would save her husband’s life?" King Esmond’s voice turned menacing.

"Father, Alaric wanted to help as a friend to her. They used to be friends in the past," Izaak said, not wanting his brother to be scolded.

"Izaak, I’ve not asked you. Let your brother answer," King Esmond asserted.

"Father, I think Caden should be given a chance to live. It was an accident. He had no intention to kill Lady Dolores’s daughter," Alaric explained.

"Hmm." King Esmond tapped his fingers of the left hand on the handrest while with the right one he kept a hold on the cup.

"I will give the cure," he pronounced.

Alaric along with Magnus and Izaak were shocked to hear their father.

"Really, Father?" Alaric asked.

Magnus read their father’s mind but remained quiet.

"Yes, I am the King," Esmond affirmed and the valet took the cup from him. "However, my son has to do something for me."

Alaric readily agreed to do anything his father wanted. King Esmond was quite stunned to see how desperate was Alaric to save Ember’s husband.

"Brother Alaric shall listen once before agreeing," Magnus suggested.

"As long as Caden can be saved, I’m willing to do anything," Alaric stated, ignoring what Magnus said. Izaak felt their father would demand something big from Alaric.

"You’ve to marry the woman I will select for you," King Esmond pronounced.

The smile on Alaric’s face disappeared and he gulped.

"Father, I-I think..." His words trailed off as didn’t know what to say more.

"Why? Don’t you want Ember to live happily with her husband and kids?" King Esmond never wanted to blackmail his own son, but it was for his future and betterment. "I heard Caden may die anytime within this week," he added. King Esmond was determined to bring happiness to his second son and for that, he had to force a marriage on him.

Magnus and Izaak exchanged glances with each other because this was the first time their father forced one of them into marriage. It was unlike him.

"Who do I have to marry, Father?" Alaric inquired.

"Scarlet Lannister," King Esmond replied.

"Father must be jesting," Izaak said.

"Does this conversation look non-serious?" King Esmond questioned.

Izaak promptly apologized for his remark. "But Miss Scarlet... I mean she was once chosen for Magnus. Won’t it be inappropriate to make her marry Alaric?" he raised the doubt.

"Miss Lannister is no longer into Magnus. From the beginning, your mother and I thought Scarlet should become the daughter-in-law of this family," King Esmond stated with a tiny smile. He returned his gaze to Alaric, "So, what do you think about this?"

"If Father can save Caden, then I’m willing to marry Miss Scarlet," Alaric said, delivering his decision to his father.

King Esmond was delighted to hear that. "That’s wonderful. You took a nice decision, Son," he praised Alaric for not refusing such an offer.

"As long as Father can save Ember’s husband I’m willing to do anything. Marrying isn’t a hassle for me," Alaric proclaimed. Though internally he wasn’t happy, but this was the only way to fulfill his promise to Ember.

"Peter, send a message to Head Witch Gloria. I would like to see her," King Esmond ordered the valet. "And also ask Dolores to be in the palace shortly along with Ember’s family," he added.

"Yes, Your Majesty," said Valet Peter and immediately followed the King’s order.

"Thank you, Father, for helping me," Alaric said with a warm smile. He realized a heavy weight was lifted from his chest and he felt lighter.
