Chapter 178: Learned to move on

Alora had her head resting on the window of the carriage. During the entire journey to her home, she didn’t utter a single word with Magnus. She didn’t blame Dolores for giving them a chance, but the situation was too complex, which would put any person in a dilemma.

As she entered the room with Magnus, Alora spoke up, "Brother Alaric gave words to Ember that he would help her. What will happen now? Also, I think Brother Alaric will always remain in regret if Mrs. Ember dies," she said and turned around to look at Magnus with a worried glance.

"Brother Alaric has turned into a fooled lover. Instead of making Ember understand, he promised her to find a solution. Dolores will never give the remedy for that curse," Magnus stated. He looked confident as if he already knew what was in Dolores’ mind.

Alora’s heart sank to hear that. "I understand Lady Dolores. As a mother, it’s tough for her to forgive Mr. Caden, who accidentally killed her daughter," she murmured and went to the nearest chair to sit on it.

"It wasn’t our place to intervene. For the sake of Alaric, we did. Izaak wasn’t happy either with the way Dolores treated us. We are the royals after all," Magnus proclaimed. No one dared to disrespect them. Just because he was a witch, they had to stop themselves from giving a punishment to her.

He sat before her on the bed. Taking off the scarf from his neck along with the broach, he gazed at Alora. "Not everything can be forgiven and not everyone can be saved. There’s a thin line between life and death, Alora. If Ember has such a fate, then she has to accept it," he asserted.

Alora hummed and lowered her head. "Sadly, she and her kids have to suffer," she murmured.

"Yes. You can say that’s the fate of theirs," Magnus stated.

"I hope Brother Alaric doesn’t remain in a guilt trap," Alora opined with a disturbed gaze.

Magnus had no idea how to make Alaric understand. The last time they talked made him realize that Alaric was still in deep love with Ember. He was unable to take off the thought that Alaric might do something that he was not supposed to do.

"Alora, I’ve to go to the palace," Magnus rose to his feet as he informed her.

Alora didn’t ask him the reason since she felt Magnus would want to talk to Alaric.

"Sure."

"I’ll speak to you after I return. Have your meals and have fun with your family," Magnus said as he cradled her neck and softly kissed her before leaving the room.

Izaak frowned as he scolded Alaric for having such a thought of sacrificing his life for a random woman.

Alaric remained seated on the sofa chair, speaking nothing. He was just staring blankly at the wall in front of him.

"Will you answer me, Alaric?" Izaak demanded as he tightened his fists, bringing his brother’s gaze to him finally.

"What should I say?" Alaric questioned. "Have my feelings ever mattered? I’ve always been questioned about them. I don’t know why I am like this. Ember left me for good, thinking she would have a stress-free life, not bound by any political duty. However, now, she will be in stress all her life," he affirmed.

Izaak rubbed the top of his left eyebrow. "Because you’ve given a heart to a woman, who never cared about it. Alaric, even though I fell in love, I learned to move on. Why can’t you do this?" He furrowed his brows together. Izaak had seen glimpses of everyone’s future around him, but for Alaric he never saw anything the same case as Alora.

"Brother, I don’t know why I can never forget her. Perhaps in my heart, in my mind, she was my wife. I know you all are worried about me. And I’m sorry for concerning you all," he whispered, lowering his head in disappointment.

"What do you wish to do now?" Izaak questioned. "Don’t be a fool in love. How could you carry such emotional behavior being a vampire?" He muttered.

"What if I meet Gloria, the Head Witch?" Alaric suggested, a glint appearing in his eyes as he got this idea out of the blue.

"Just for Ember you are ready to go to any lengths, Brother Alaric," Magnus’s voice reverberated in the room. The two glanced at him, confused by his sudden visit.

"I was simply worried for Brother Alaric," Magnus clarified before the two of them asked him. He sat on the third sofa chair with one leg above the other.

"Gloria won’t agree to spare a vampire, who killed a daughter from the witches’ clan. Brother Alaric knows well how it can lead to some disturbing consequences in the future. The witches may expect the same for us or they may want us to return the favor to them," Magnus asserted, giving his insight to his both brothers on the matter. "Not to mention, even Gloria doesn’t have a likeness toward us," he reminded them.

Izaak agreed with his words.

"Ember needs to understand that sometimes what is written will happen at any cost. We aren’t supposed to stop anyone’s death. It’s against the law of nature. Moreover, Ember belongs to a well-to-do noble family. Don’t you think she has tried negotiating with Dolores?"

"Did you read Dolores’s mind?" Izaak inquired curiously.

"Yes. Ember went to see her along with her father-in-law. Dolores didn’t tell us about it. She won’t budge from her decision. She believes that if one makes a mistake or commits a crime, the entire family must suffer the consequences. Ember and her children have to bear the repercussions of Caden’s actions," Magnus affirmed with a serious gaze.

Alaric understood what Magnus meant. Indeed, he couldn’t stop anyone’s death. He made the efforts toward it, but nothing could be done. He just hoped Ember would live with this fact. Still, he felt he should once visit Dolores and beg her forgiveness.
