Chapter 122: Stop fooling yourself and my son
"Father, they aren’t lying," Izaak said, supporting both of them. "You wanted to know why Alora has such eyes. The reason is that the Lunar God chose him and asked Stella to bless Alora with those eyes when she was in Lady Rhea’s womb. It was all planned. Also, even ancient textbooks have mentioned about Lunar God and Goddesses," he explained.
"Leave it, Brother Izaak. I don’t want to convince Father of anything," Magnus said and asked Alora to get up. "We should leave," he murmured.
"Stay seated. Didn’t I have any right to even question you?" Esmond lay back on his seat, his elbow moved to the armrest.
"Magnus, what we didn’t give you. We always fulfill your every demand, yet you question our credibility with you. You cannot speak in such a way to your father," Margaret scolded him this time and asked him to apologize to his father. He told him to show respect. He wasn’t a kid anymore, who needed to be taught the mannerism.
"My humble apologies, Father, for speaking wrongly with you," Magnus said nonchalantly. "Is that enough, Mother, or do you want me to get on my knees?" He inquired irritatedly.
Alora didn’t know what to say in this situation. Magnus was like a 4-year-old kid, who liked to throw tantrums in front of his parents.
"Magnus, that’s not what I mean. Be sincere," Margaret said, glaring at him.
"I am tired. I wish to rest. The breakfast was lovely," Magnus said and went to the door. He stopped and asked Alora to follow him. She left her seat promptly.
"Please forgive Prince Magnus for his rude behavior. We didn’t intend to lie to the King or anyone present here. Stella said this and she disappeared after that. I know it’s hard to believe, but I’ll prove to all of you that I don’t harbor ill intentions toward anyone or harm anyone," Alora said in an apologetic tone.
Magnus rolled his eyes and he walked to her. "Don’t explain anything to them. They won’t understand unless you prove them. That’s how this family works," he stated.
"Very well," Esmond said at last. "Let’s say I trust you, Alora," his words sent a wave of surprise through the room. "But can you look into my eyes? You must prove that your eyes pose no threat. As the King, I command you to gaze directly into my eyes. If you cannot, continue wearing the blindfold until you feel capable of meeting someone else’s gaze, aside from my son, Magnus," he decreed.
Alora, taken aback by the unexpected demand, shook her head in refusal. "I beg your pardon, but I cannot," she replied in a low voice.
Magnus halted his attempt to escort Alora out when Esmond’s voice echoed in the hall.
"Alora, if you yourself doubt Stella’s words, how can you convince the world that you’re as normal as us?" Esmond’s inquiry rang out as he stood up in a commanding attention. Following his suit, the others also left their seats. "Silence, everyone, including you, Magnus. While I may not reprimand you for your impertinence, I can hold Alora accountable," he asserted sternly.
Izaak glanced at Alora, curious to see how she would respond to the King’s challenge. With her throat dry and her thoughts muddled, Alora found herself unable to formulate a reply.
"Just live the way you are living, Alora. Stop fooling yourself and my son. I hope you are smart enough what I meant by that," Esmond stated.
"Father, please stop," Magnus urged this time despite fuming in anger.
"Father-in-law, I-I will prove to you that I’m not what everyone thinks of me. I am not fooling anyone. I do not dare to do that," Alora said while feeling nervous and scared.
"Well, let’s see how long it will take you to come out of your illusion," King Esmond remarked and left the dining hall, followed by Queen Margaret.
"Alora, you should not try to become like us. Also, Father is right. Stop dreaming that we will accept you ever," Lillian stated. She quickly left the hall in her prideful walk.
"Alora, it’s good to see you after so many days. You look better without the blindfold. I’m willing to look into your eyes if you want. Then, no one will bully you," Alaric stated in his humble tone.
"Thank you, Brother Alaric, but I’m not ready for that challenge," Alora replied, mustering a smile despite the emotional turmoil within. She fought back tears, refusing to appear weak in front of them.
Feeling her distress, Magnus gently placed his hand on her shoulder, offering her a silent comfort.
Izaak broke the tense silence, offering insight into their father’s intentions. "Father’s words may be harsh, but his intentions are kind. He wants to understand why Magnus consistently stands up for you. He’s troubled by the notion that his son may prioritize you over our family," he explained, casting a meaningful glance at Magnus.
"That’s an excuse, Brother Izaak. And tell Lillian to stay within her boundaries. I may not hesitate to put her to rest next time. She has turned cunning," Magnus commented. He held Alora’s hand and took her out of the dining room.
As Alaric watched them leave, he asked Izaak, "Did Magnus not tell Alora about Venus’s imprisonment?"
"He didn’t," Izaak replied. "Is Venus still imprisoned?" he queried.
"Yes. Father hasn’t intervened in the matter yet, but I suspect Norman has paid him a visit," Alaric confirmed.
"I’m not sure what to expect. Alora has a forgiving nature, after all. She’s kind, perhaps too trusting," Izaak remarked.
"Magnus might be driven to extreme measures against Venus. Let’s hope he considers Alora’s well-being before acting," Alaric murmured, voicing his concern.
"Venus is not going to change as far as I have studied her. She is jealous of her own sister. Alora needs to think of her future before making any decision. If she forgives Venus, she may bring another danger upon her," Izaak affirmed.
