Chapter 121: Father has never trusted me

The next morning:

"Your Highness, the King wants everyone to be at the breakfast table, including Princess Alora," Tobias informed him. The physician had done the dressing and told the prince his wound would be healed in one or two days.

Magnus dismissed him and then put on his shirt. "Why did suddenly Father want me and Alora on the same dining table as the others?" he queried as he buttoned his shirt. Tucking it inside his trousers, he headed to the dressing chamber while Tobias closely followed him.

"His Majesty must have thought that it’s the time to embrace his daughter-in-law in the family," Tobias opined. Other than this, he didn’t have any satisfactory response for the prince.

"You are wrong, Tobias. At the dining table, my mother and father will have better opportunities to make feel Alora low. Already she is stressed. I think you should tell my father that we won’t join them for breakfast," Magnus clarified to him.

Tobias helped Magnus dress up further and said, "Your Highness, it’s been a long time since you will be with your parents, having meals. I know your diet isn’t like the others, but the food is made according to your choice." Tobias did his best to convince Magnus as he tucked the broach at the top of Magnus’s collar, he added, "Princess Alora also desires to be a part of this family. You should definitely join them for breakfast today."

Magnus contemplated for a moment before agreeing to Tobias’s suggestion. He wore the waistcoat, followed by an embellished and intricately woven overcoat. His hair was done and he was ready to see Alora.

As Magnus came to the drawing-room, he found Alora with a blindfold in her eyes with Selvina. "Why did you wear that?" He asked.

"I cannot go with naked eyes in front of the King and the Queen," Alora replied.

Magnus sighed as he sensed that she had become this way because of yesterday’s incident. He stood behind her and opened the knot of her blindfold. Alora did stop him, but he didn’t listen to her.

Standing in front of her, he held Alora’s chin up, making her look into his eyes. "Stay the way you are. I like Fierce Alora. I like timid Alora too, but your fierce side is better. Also, it’s time you shall win over my parents as you wanted. Don’t forget you have to tell them what we have found out about your pretty eyes," Magnus said.

Alora hummed and asked about his wound.

"Better than before. I told you it would heal at a faster rate," he replied. His eyes lingered on her lips for a brief moment as he heard her say,

"That’s a relief."

In a moment of privacy, Magnus leaned in to kiss her, catching Tobias’s amused glance. Alora’s cheeks flushed crimson, her eyes blinking rapidly at his sudden kiss.

"We shall go now," Magnus said, gently taking her hand as they made their way to the dining hall, where eager faces awaited their arrival.

Alora was nervous, her heart was thumping against her chest and she felt it would be a good breakfast experience with her family. This was her first breakfast with them, so she prayed that it would go well.

Entering the dining hall, Alora sensed the eyes were at her. She pulled away her hand from Magnus’s grip and curtsied to all of them, keeping her gaze low. Magnus followed suit, greeting his parents before ushering Alora to the table. With a gentlemanly gesture, he pulled out a chair for her, ensuring she was seated first.

"How are you feeling, Magnus? I was informed that your wound would heal completely in one or two days," King Esmond stated, gesturing to the head servant to serve them breakfast.

"I’m feeling well and surprised," Magnus answered as he clasped his hands together.

"Why surprised, son?" Queen Margaret asked.

"Because we all are having breakfast at the same table," Magnus replied.

"Is it wrong to eat together?" King Esmond questioned and glanced at Alora, who looked quiet.

"It is not wrong, but strange," Magnus remarked. He turned his focus to Alora and looked at her plate.

"It’s strange we are now sharing the breakfast with a human," Lillian suddenly remarked.

"Then, please leave, Lillian," Magnus sharply told her. "You can have breakfast alone in your room," he added.

"Don’t talk to your sister like that. Everyone should eat quietly," Margaret told him and gazed at Lillian, gesturing her to maintain the decorum.

"Let’s begin," King Esmond commanded and they all started eating. Magnus was quite impressed with the meals. He thought they had forgotten his choice of food, but he was wrong. Alora, too, enjoyed the food she was served.

As they finished eating, the servants picked up the utensils from the table.

"I have something to inform to my dear father," Magnus initiated the conversation.

"Yes, please," Esmond was quite surprised his son had to speak with him.

"Alora and I found the truth about her eyes. In Shadowbrook, we went to the Dragon Trees Forest, where we encountered Stella, a Lunar Goddess. According to her, Alora’s eyes don’t harm everyone, but only those who keep ill feelings about her. Stella then disappeared saying Alora has to live like this while fulfilling a task, where the vampires, werewolves, and humans will come close not by political means but socially and emotionally."

Initially, Magnus had plans to keep it a secret from his father. However, later he felt that telling his father was crucial.

"What did you say?" King Esmond slightly frowned. "Doesn’t that mean we have to mingle with them?" He asked to confirm.

"Well, there’s nothing wrong in mingling with them. The problem between us three species is because of the huge gap of understanding among us," Magnus explained.

"Why would a Lunar Goddess come to earth to speak this nonsense?" King Esmond refused to believe Magnus. He considered that they two lied to him.

Magnus’s jaw tightened to hear that remark and he glared at his father. "This is the problem, which makes me stay away from you. Father has never trusted me and I know he will never," he pronounced, rising to his feet and slamming his hands on the table.
