Chapter 72: A subskill in a skill
’Bam!’
Jack was sent skidding back across the ground, from a punch from the chef ogre. His arms crossed in an x to reduce the damage taken.
[Critical hit!]
[-20hp]
[Hp: 120/200]
He’d suffered about 3-4 hits from this chef ogre, reducing his hp greatly. There were bruises and cuts with blood pouring out, but nothing severe.
’This ogre.. is it just me or is it a bit faster?’ Jack frowned, noticing some slight differences between this new ogre and the two he’d killed. Not only was it shorter than kabon and echom, by a feat. It also wasn’t that fat and grotesque like the latter’s, having a more chubbier frame.
But it’s speed wasn’t comparable to kabon and echom, having a slighter increase.
[Am also sensing some differences in it’s gene structure.] Aethone calmly said scanning the ogre.
"Roar!" Letting out an ear deafening roar, the chef ogre slammed it’s hand to the spot jack stood In attempts to crush him. but the latter was fast, swiftly evading the strike.
’By altering you mean evolving?’ Jack raised a brow, firing two blood balls to the ogre’s shoulder. He aimed for the small cut he managed to make but surprisingly, the ogre blocked. Seemingly perceiving jack’s motives on instinct.
’It’s definitely more wiser than the others. Like it’s studying me.’ It was just a wild theory he had, but he could tell this chef ogre’s intelligence wasn’t on the same level as kabon and echom.
’I haven’t actually gotten a critical hit on it to enable blood decay effects.’ During the start of the fight, jack was confident he would win knowing a bit about ogres. But he was terribly wrong as this one was different. Not only having a faster reflux, but also a more credible intelligence.
Blocking every strike he attempted to make, with the gigantic wooden roller. Almost as if perceiving his attacks before they were made. But nevertheless, jack had managed to inflict some few cuts to some parts of the ogre’s body.
But still, everytime he attempted to shoot a blood ball to a cut or wound the ogre dodged. Making the blood ball hit it’s thick skin, limiting it’s effects.
"I have to end this quick or my stamina’s going to run out." Glancing about, he looked for options to defeat this giant. His daggers weren’t in great shape anymore getting dull. From the constant use, and thick blood staining it.
"That’s it!" An idea popped up in his head, glancing at echom’s wooden spiked club.
’I just have to get him to trip over on the spiked club.’ The club was heavy, made giant size for ogres so jack couldn’t carry it. But he didn’t have to! He simply had to make use of his surroundings in the best way possible, to get the desired results.
’Now, how do you make a giant fall without exerting yourself?’ Thinking hard while constantly moving from spot to spot, an idea clicked in mind. Smiling brightly he stored the two daggers in the system store, shooting with speed towards some tall rocks.
"If you can’t beat them stone them!" Clenching his fist tightly he punched forward not holding back.
’Boom!’ His fist collided with the rock, blasting it into smaller bits. The rampaging ogre was confused a bit, seeing jack smash a rock. but it soon continued on with it’s relentless attacks.
’Bam!’ It slammed the wooden roller down to which jack dodged. Not stopping it punched down with it’s huge hand, creating a huge fist sized crater.
’Swoosh!’ An object pierced through the air, cutting through it with incredible speed. Quickly finding it’s mark to the ogre’s head.
But with lightening fast reflexes, the chef ogre blocked the attack to his eyes with his arm, deflecting the attack.
"Shit. It’s more smarter than I thought." Jack frowned seeing his attack failed. He’d tried to blind the ogre with a sneak attack, throwing some pebbles to it’s eye.
But the flesh eating monster had anticipated this and deflected his attack.
"Am not like the rest ogres puny insect." The chef ogre grinned with a mocking smile.
"I’ve eaten far more fox and goblin flesh than I can count!" It roared, laughing hysterically appraising himself. His chest puffed out a bit, with a confident grin tugging at the corner of his curved lip.
[Of course.. why didn’t I think of that!? Having consumed a substantial amount of foxes and goblins, this ogre is bound to have and increase in both his agility and intelligence stat.] Aethone spoke, her tone containing some traces of anger and frustration.
Hearing the system the idea wasn’t absurd, just like the rewards the system granted him when he consumed flesh. Each having distinct effects based on the creature.
"You might have consumed far more foxes and goblins than I can count, but you’re still a big dumb target!" A crazed expression formed on jack’s face. Without delay his hands moved like a blur, firing off small stones like bullets.
’Bang! Bang! bang! Bang!’
Various gunshot sounds went off as jack moved from spot to spot, firing off stones after stones non stop.
’If I can’t blind you I might as well distract you.’ That was the option he leaned onto. He couldn’t get close to this ogre because of it’s high intellect, to inflict serious damage. But he could at least distract enough to strike.
"Enough!" The ogre roared, slamming his two massive arms down to the ground. Sending objects flying into the air, with some portion of the floor giving out caving in.
Shifted off balance, jack was chucked up in the air a bit. Taking advantage, the ogre swung it’s huge wooden roller with might at jack.
Waving his hands the daggers appeared in his grasp, to which he also slashed with every bit of strength in him.
’Boom!’ A huge shockwave occured, shaking the environment greatly. Both big and small objects, unable to withstand the terrifying pressure blasted away from the force.
’Swoosh!’ An object cut through the air moving at great speed, crashing into a big tree. The winner of the strength battle evident.
"Phough!" Jack coughed up mouthfuls of fresh blood. Several bones in his body were broken. Even his left leg was cracked, the bone sticking out upwards from his knee.
[Critical hit!]
[Internal damage sustained!]
[-70hp]
[Hp: 50/200]
[User’s bones are broken! Consume meat to heal!]
"Haha! You put up a good fight insect, infact! am impressed.. you managed to out last most of the other insects that tried to escape." Chuckling a bit, the chef ogre calmly made his way to jack. An evil grin plastered to his face.
"In the end it’s still the same. I eat you!" Stretching his hand, the ogre attempted to grab jack deeming the battle over.
’T-there’s no other choice.’ Gritting his teeth he activated a skill he’d never used.
[Eyes of truth activated!]
An otherworldly energy blasted the air making it heavier. A small dark hole formed getting bigger, forming the figure if an eye.
This eye wasn’t like a normal eye, but with red lines running all over it. A strange dark storm cloud below it.
"A-am affected by it?" Jack stuttered, feeling the terrifying aura this eye excluded.
[Hidden effects activated!]
[Time freeze: slows down time by 5% for a duration of 5 seconds.]
’A subskill in a skill?’ Jack’s eyes widened, seeing the system notifications flash before his eyes.
According to the skills description, it allowed him to see 5% into the future. He didn’t know how, but was excited to find out. But now there was a subskill, that didn’t require anything for activation.
’It’s slowing down.’ He could see the ogre’s movements were slower than before. His senses becoming more sharper and precise, like the world around him was slow. But in reality it was normal, only he’d gotten super fast.
[Time remaining till skills elapse: 4 seconds]
[3..]
’I can’t waste this opportunity.’ Gritting his teeth he pushed his body up. Stomping his feet, shooting his body fast towards the ogre.
The creature’s eyes widened, seeing jack suddenly gain an insane amount of speed.
It tried to smash jack away with it’s hand, but he was sluggish for some reason. Like a force was pinning him down.
’That eye.. w-who the fuck is he!?’ The ogre inwardly screamed, staring at jack with frieght. His body visibly shaking.
’Bam!’ Jack punched forward with both his hands. already dark and red, having activated both decay and blood decay skill.
"Argh!! Get off me!!" The ogre screamed, frantically shaking in attempts to get jack of it’s eyes. But the latter stuck like a leech refusing to let go.
[You have successfully killed a peak rank F ogre!]
[You gained +12 agility and intelligence stat!]
[Your hp have been restored!]
[You have levelled up!]
Various system notifications flashed before his gaze to which he ignored. His eyes glued to the screaming ogre, with red and black lines running from his eyes. Spreading fast like a virus down to his body.
