The Undead system -
Chapter 73: you and what army?
Chapter 73: you and what army?
"Ha.. that was close." Jack weakly sighed, clumsily falling to the ground. His body had healed along with his internal injury, but the drain had been done.
His breathing was raspy and weak, void of life like a dying person about to give up. But he wasn’t about kicking the bucket anytime soon.
’Took them long enough.’ A weak chuckle escaped his mouth, finally sensing some movements in the ogre settlement.
’They’re fewer than I expected.’ Jack thought, sensing no more than about 7-10 high aura’s here. He could still move and fight for some little amount of time, before his body eventually gave in to the wears and tears sustained.
"Might as well try~" His chaos energy was at 70 percent, slowly replenishing. Stretching his hand he tried summoning an ogre.
[Error!]
[Costs 700 chaos energy to summon kabon!]
’it cost more than the goblin king?’ Jack’s eyes widened, at the insane amount of chaos energy required to summon a peak rank ogre. He was annoyed he couldn’t summon the goblin king, which cost 300 chaos energy.
But now he was dumbfounded, seeing the huge margin between an ogre and a goblin king.
’Now I can relate why the bastard formed a pact with them.’ Though they were both f rank creatures, there were visible differences between the goblin king and kabon. The power difference vivid as day.
Slightly shaking his head, he proceeded to store all three ogre’s bodies in the system store.
[Jack, I think the best option is to retreat.] Aethone abruptly spoke, making jack stop in his tracks.
"You’re not serious right?" Jack chuckled, ignoring the system words as part of her charades.
"Am not. Your body is in a weak state to fight, and the number of goblins in the settlement is still unknown. Not to mention the various traps set in place.] Aethone retorded, her voice cold with some hints of care.
Not answering immediately, jack pondered on his system words. Aethone was right, he was flying blindly into unknown territory which could be the end of him. He only possessed a few skills all in the f rank stage.
Not with any equipments whatsoever, as the daggers Yuma gave him had been destroyed, from his confrontation with the chef ogre.
’Maybe I should retreat? The settlement will always be here and I can come back. but, why do I have this feeling there’ll be a backlash.’ Having known the location of the ogre settlement, he could always come back here with the guidance of his system.
But he knew that was a fairytale, as the ogre’s wouldn’t sit blindly and let this little act slide.
Wanting to get revenge, and raiding both kilroi town and the goblin village. Taking an ogre down was a great feat, with limited equipments. And he couldn’t be two places at once.
"No. I’ve come too far to return now." Jack shook his head, with a wild look burning in his eyes. If worse comes to worse, there’s always Jin and the undead summons.
...
Back in kilroi town...
Everything seemed to be normal, with the locals going about their daily business.
"Intruders! Intruders!" A fox patrol guard yelled, blowing hard into a horn blaring the alarm.
"What? I-intruders now of all times?" A bulky male orc stuttered, gripping his axe tightly.
"We’re doomed!" The female cyclops from earlier dramatically screamed. The town was sent into a bit of a frenzy, from the sudden sounding of the alarm.
"What’s all this ruckus?" Karrie frowned still in her night dres. There were small dark circle bags under her eyes, indicating she’d been jolted up from sleep.
"C-commander.. we’re being attacked by goblins!" The patrol guards hastingly spoke with fright. Their voice shaking like they’d just seen a ghost.
’Goblins?’ Karrie frowned hearing them. ’It seems they haven’t learnt their lesson.’
"Prepare the troops, we attack at once!" Karrie sternly ordered to which they nodded. Dispersing out to fulfill her commands, rallying the whole town. Equipping themselves with some rusty weapons.
Waiting at the center, the entire locals of kilroi town were gathered there. Karrie calmly stood in front, her expression unwavering.
Strapped to her back was a vase containing basic arrows, with a plain bow in her hands.
"This aura.. it’s stronger than mine." Karrie’s eye widen a bit, sensing a more stronger aura than her’s. And soon, she could see a group of goblins about 50. 15 comprising of male goblins, and the rest females.
Some armed with weapons and no armour, while the rest equipped with some pieces of rusty armour in bad shape.
"What are you doing here?" Karrie questioned, placing a an arrow to her bow drawing it. Ignoring her, the goblins advanced forward.
’Swoosh!’ An arrow cut through the air fast, heading for a male goblin by the right. The latter was oblivious to this fact, unaware of the looming danger.
But before the arrow pierced it’s chest, it was caught by another goblin.
’She caught my attack?’ Staring at this female goblin, she was different than the rest.
Not only did she posses a higher aura, she was also more intelligent and perceptive.
’She must be the commander.’ The fox woman plaused, warily staring at her.
"We’ve already lost a great amount of male goblins from the duel held by the king." Yuma calmly spoke snapping the arrow in two.
"You might’ve intercepted that attack but I won’t ask you again. What are you doing here?" Karrie asked, three arrows placed to her bow.
Slightly chuckling, Yuma’s expression was calm and soft ignoring Karrie’s threat.
I know the king hasn’t filled you on our relationship, but that’ll be for another day. Yuma calmly waved her hand, further confusing Karrie.
What the hell is she talking about, and who’s this king she keeps mentioning? The latter inwardly thought, having a gut feeling she was familiar with the king.
"Look, there’s no time." Yuma hurriedly spoke, pulling karrie from her trance.
"The king has journeyed to the ogre settlement, but I fear he isn’t strong enough to face them by himself." Hearing Yuma’s word, Karrie’s eye widened a bit her mind going to jack.
He’d mentioned plans of going to the ogre settlement, but she didn’t actually think he’d go along with it. Not knowing much about the ogre settlement, except they were high level ogre’s there made her heart sink.
"Damn it! Why didn’t you start with that earlier!?" Karrie fumed about to pounce on Yuma.
"Divide into two groups. The first team would serve as the assault team, comprising more of the fox race with some orcs and cyclops. While the second is the defense team, who will stay here and guard the town until we return."
She commanded to which they all nodded splitting into groups, sharing themselves like they’d already prepared for such case.
"Lead the way!" Karrie shouted a bit, seeing Yuma standing still.
"Haha! So you’re the lucky one the king has eyes for." Yuma giggled softly shaking her head. "Guess I’ll have to eliminate you."
She playfully smiled, earning an awkward glance from Karrie.
....
Meanwhile back at the ogre settlement, jack steadily made his way in through the gates. Now in, he had a clearer view of the settlement. It was just like a factory, except without large pipes and split into several parts.
There wasn’t any ogre nearby which was weird, since he’d sensed their movements earlier. Looking, he searched the smaller houses for any item he could salvage. But most houses were empty, with little to none equipments.
’I could only salvage 15 equipments.’ It was a low number, but it gave a higher system point of 70 per each item. Pocketing a thousand and 50 system points.
Walking further, he headed more deeper into town. He could sense the aura’s more stronger, packed in a particular spot. There in front he could see the flesh eating giant ogres.
Each holding a spiked wooden club. A crazed expression formed on their face, locking eyes on jack.
"Look, stray food!" One pointed with an evil grin.
"Haha! Perfect timing.. I was beginning to get hungry." Another chuckled, rubbing his fat belly. Intently staring at jack with greedy eyes.
"Ha.. imbeciles~ you’d serve as nothing more but slaves to my collections." Jack coldly uttered, making the ogres seize in their hearty laughter.
"Oh yeah.. you and what army?" They chuckled mocking jack.
"Puny meat like you need to know their place!"
’I can’t take a 5 of them on my own.’ He frowned, seeing the ogre’s charging towards him.
Their step contained power, creating small craters down to the ground where they stepped.
’What are they guarding?’ He wondered, seeing the remaining 5 goblins behind in front of a chained steel structure. He couldn’t sense the aura inside, but he had a wild guess it wasn’t the boss.
Shaking his head a bit he stretched his left leg back, crouching down a bit. Inhaling some amounts of air steadily himself.
’Bam!’ He exploded with terrifying force, shooting like a blur reaching the goblins in no time.
Reaching the first he easily avoided the spiked club, clenching his fist tightly and punching forward to the ogre’s ankle.
’Crack!’ A loud crack sound was heard, along with the crumbling of bones. Not stopping, jack propelled himself upwards with his two legs.
"At least I can try!"
[Eyes of truth activated!]
[Error in activating hidden skill effects..]
[Blood decay activated!]
[Decay activated!]
Activating multiple skills at once, he knew there would be a back lash but he chose to worry about that later.
[Would user like to summon all undead allies?]
"Yes." Under the goblin eyes, an ominous red light excluded from jack’s body with the materialization of several creatures.
Now these weren’t normal goblins and foxes with weapons. Having pale skin, their eyes void of life. A foul rotten stench excluding from these savages.
