The Undead system -
Chapter 64: Upgrade
Chapter 64: Upgrade
"y-your highness." Karrie barely uttered, helpless against this oppressive force. It was like a tall building crashing down on her, pinning her to the ground. Whatever will she had to fight extinguishing in smokes.
’impressive, they’ve no doubt improved from last time.’ Jack chuckled lightly, gazing at Yuma and the goblin soldiers with glistening eyes.
Before he left the goblin village, he’d instructed the implementation of several traps at specific spots he chose. To which they did, obeying his commands. But he’d deliberately chose to bump into the traps, testing it’s credibility.
Most were made from wood crafted into bottom spikes, makeshift lines firing spears and arrows when triggered, and so on. But it was definitely authentic and efficient, in killing lower ranked f creatures.
’what’s he doing? T-the look in his eyes, it’s more wilder than before.’ Karrie’s body shuddered, feeling Ice cubes down her spine. She could sense jack was stronger, than the last time they met. And it was just the freaking day before yesterday!
"You’ve obeyed my commands and grown more formidable. Am proud." With a light smile he dispersed his aura, making yuma and the soldiers pant in air.
"Of course your highness.. your wish is our command, and we shall do as you instructed." Karrie softly uttered on her knees, her head bowed along with the guards. Her tone was calm and steady, laced with loyalty.
"Very well then.. show me the other stuffs." Jack casually spoke with a bit of impatient. Not answering immediately, Yuma wondered what jack meant fast, not wanting to delay fearing for her life.
"O-of course.. please, follow me." Yuma bowed, asking for permission to stand to which jack waved. Moving, the group made their way back into the village. Yuma instructing some few goblin soldiers, to guard the cave. While the rest returned to the house which belonged to jack, as the new king.
"What is it?" He asked in an indifferent tone. He could see Yuma clutching her fist a bit, a with a look of uncertainty plastered to her face.
"Forgive me your highness but.. why go through the trouble of risking your life against the traps? When you could’ve simply avoided them." Though her tone was calm, it was shaky filled with fear. Stopping in his tracks, jack glanced at her with a tinge of excitement.
"Now where’s the fun in that?" A crazed smile formed on his face, sending shivers down Yuma’s soul. Not uttering a word, the duo made their way to the south side of town.
"This is the land we’ve chosen to plant the foodstuffs. We’ve also erected a structure, capable of holding about 3-4 hundreds of livestock’s." Karrie explained to which jack nodded.
Looking at the land it was abundance. Like some plots of land joined together, forming a strange rectangular pattern. Several crops were planted already, yielding small leaves.
Having a clearer view, jack could see this was the section trees populated most. Also having a stable supply of water, as they tapped the lines of water with wooden pipes. Guiding them safely to the crops and trees.
"We could only plant three grains namely rice, maize and wheat." Hearing that a frown formed on jack’s face. The reason he’d instructed them to venture into farming was because, he wanted to have a feel of what normal food tasted like.
As an undead his body was changing, getting accustomed to meat. But his taste buds weren’t plain to normal food. Just he didn’t crave them, and they didn’t provide satisfaction.
"B-but we managed to also gather some varieties of fruits, and veggies from trees. Taking some seeds and planting them again." She subconsciously spoke, her body going numb with the insane amount of killing intent emitting from jack’s body.
"Very well.. what about the livestock’s? Take me to them." Nodding, Yuma directed jack to the huge barn erected just besides the enormous land. Several goblin guards stationed there froze in fear, on sighting of jack. Their heads immediately lowered, falling to their knees in respect.
Ignoring them, jack casually flung open the two huge barn doors with a hand.
’what the heck? T-this doors weighed no less than 200 pounds, enough to crush a human.’ Yuma’s eye widened in shock, seeing jack casually flung them open. Shaking her head she followed suit, entering the barn.
"Mooo!!"
"Bla-ahh! bla-hhh!"
The sounds of cattles and sheep’s echoed in the spacious room. Until a figure made his way in, the noises dying off immediately. Silence befalling the room.
’Even the animals are petrified.’ Yuma thought, seeing all the animals eye go pale white. Their bodies visibly shaking uncontrollably, from jack’s deadly aura.
’Am not even releasing it that much.’ Jack frowned, seeing how much of an effect his aura had. though he tried concealing it.
"Moo!" With a loud cry a cattle fell over, unable to keep up with this suffocating force. It’s eyes going blank white, rolling back indicating it’s demise.
"Y-your highness.. am sorry i-" stopping her, jack calmly made his way to the dead cow. A cold gaze flickered in his eyes.
"You can’t escape me in death bastard." Dark fog seeped out from him, enveloping the cow. Under Yuma’s eye, she watched the dead cow rise again.
"I-impossible." she uttered taken aback not believing her eyes.
’He brought it back. H-how us this even possible!?’ She wondered in a dilemma.
She thought jack was dangerous before but now, she didn’t know what to think anymore. His personality far surpassing that of a monster!
Raising his hand, jack brought it down with terrifying speed. His fist colliding with the cow’s head, exploding upon impact.
[An undead summon has been killed!]
[-50 dominion points.]
’What the hell, there’s a backlash?’ Jack’s eye widened in shock, seeing the system message. Never thinking there would be a backlash, for the death of one of his summons.
’It’s probably because I killed it?’ It was plausible he faced a backlash, because he killed the cow. Thereby resulting in a penalty from the system.
[Negative. You’ll receive a penalty for each of your summons killed. Either by you or another.] The system blurted out, making jack frown more.
"Y-your highness." Yuma lightly called out afraid of angering him. She didn’t want to know what he was thinking about, but she sure as hell didn’t want to be on his bad side.
"I thought you might be interested in what weapons our scouts acquired from their outing." She spoke making jack raise a brow.
’They also have a scout team?’ He was a bit surprised the goblin village had a scout team, just like kilroi town. But it wasn’t absurd but plausible, considering their numbers and intelligence.
Though they weren’t as swift as foxes, they made up for that in intelligence.
"Very well. Don’t waste my time." Nodding energetically, Yuma then led him out the barn back into town. Specifically to a line up of shops on the left side, and stalls on the right.
Guiding him to a particular building, with dark intricate carvings of crescent moons. Yuma proceeding to open the door.
’She’s becoming more obedient.’ Jack couldn’t help but smile, at how loyal Yuma had become. Though he still had his eyes on her and didn’t trust her.
"This is the weapons store where we store our looted equipments acquired." She said, pointing at the various weapons in the room.
There was a collection of swords, butcher knives, spears arrows, bows, daggers. All of very low quality, a tad bit better than the one’s he’d used. Hung on display on different shelf’s, and wooden stands.
Picking up a short knife jack examined it. With the starter pack from the system, he had little knowledge about weapons.
The knife had a promising shape, but poorly executed with bad texture. It’s sharp edge was blunt a bit, the stainless steel colour stained with a black substance.
’System, are all these items the same with the one’s in the shop?’ Jack inwardly asked, wanting to confirm his suspicions. These equipments here weren’t in the best shape, making him wonder if they were in the f rank stage.
Normally, the few items in his system shop were labelled as f rank. But he couldn’t ascertain if it was the same for these.
[None of these items are f rank. Only basic equipments, poorly crafted with bad materials.]
’So.. you’re saying these are just basic swords and shield, not in the f rank stage. Meaning the items in the shop surpass these?’ It was just a guess but still. He felt the items in the shop were of better quality than this, from staring at them.
[The ranking of items vary from basic, meaning plain old swords and spears. To f rank, meaning imbued with several advanced properties, propelling it to the f rank]
[And not only do the items in the store surpass these physically, they also grants some buffs. And if lucky, a hidden special effects.]
Nodding, a wide grin tugged at the corner of Jack’s lip with an idea popping up in his mind.
’Then I guess it’s time for an upgrade.’
Stretching his hand Yuma took a few steps back, thinking he was about to perform the strange act back at the barn. But none of such ever occured!
Instead, all the equipments in the room started rumbling. Shaking violently, controlled by an otherworldly force. A bright light illuminating them, making Yuma cover her eyes.
’W-where are they?’ She wondered, seeing all the equipments here disappeared. In front was jack calmly standing, already expecting such outcome.
Stretching his hand forth again, the bright light illuminated the room. Compelling Yuma to close her eyes. Opening them her jaws dropped, seeing a new set of equipments in the room.
