Chapter 63: the urge to kill

Early the next morning jack got up, few red crack lines could be seen running along his eyes. He couldn’t sleep a wink yesterday night, practicing with his summoner’s ring.

’now I can effectively switch in combat.’ the main reason he’d been up, was basically to train. While fighting, he wanted to utilize new methods to defeat an opponent. Rather than using his pure strength.

"Growl." Jin let out a low growl standing besides jack. His face was lifeless and scary, but jack wasn’t fazed one bit.

’it’s a bummer there aren’t any magical beasts here.’ jack sighed, a bit frustrated there weren’t any magical beasts nearby he could kill. But nevertheless, all hope wasn’t lost yet.

"Time to head out." Equipping Jin back into the ring, he made his way towards the door. A light grin plastered on his face, inhaling the fresh air from the early morning breeze.

’they should be fine until I return.’ He had informed Karrie earlier, about his plans. Stating he might be gone for about a day or two, to which she nodded. Not asking any questions or protesting like usual, making jack chuckle a bit.

’She’s still mad.’ Her expression said it all, anger though not visible hidden in her heart. Shrugging, jack thanked her. leaving, not knowing what to say to ease the atmosphere.

[You should get her a present. afterall, she’s gonna be your wife soon.] The system blurted out in a sly tone.

"Yeah.. we’ll see about that." He simply shook his head, not having an intention of starting a harem. There was just a lot on his plate he was dealing with, and he didn’t like mixing business with pleasure.

With that he stomped his foot, propelling his body high in the air. Shooting at incredible speed across the sky.

’It’s beautiful up here.’ Now that he got a good look, he could see the moon. Shining brightly, shaped in a crescent form amongst the dark clouds. There weren’t any stars he’d seen here which was weird, but it was still beautiful nevertheless.

’Bam!’ He chose to land with a bang, making his presence known.

"I covered half of the distance with just a leap." A proud smug grin tug on his lip, seeing how strong he’d grown. Before he was weak and pitiful, but now he was undoubtedly terrifyingly stronger than before.

’One more..’ stomping his foot again, he propelled his body higher in the air a bit up from the clouds. The cold dense air hitting his face fast.

Reaching the ground he steadied his body, using his legs to softly land to the ground. In front was the small waterfall, with the cave hidden behind it.

"It’s really not noticeable from here." Jack smiled, staring at the waterfall. It was still darker than normal, being early in the morning. So the cave was concealed well behind the waterfall, blending in with the darkness.

Calmly making his way to the cave he stopped, an idea popping up in his head.

’Let’s see how well they’ve grown.’ He smiled, proceeding besides the narrow water quietly flowing downwards. Reaching the exact spot, his hand trailed along the wall a bit from the edge of the large pond.

"Bingo!" He shouted. Locating the hidden stone, gently pressing it back.

’Rumble!!’ The wall rumbled, causing the ground to shake a bit. Before his eyes, the portion of the wall he stood spilt into two, revealing the familiar passage he’d been through.

’I wonder how much damage blood ball will inflict now?’ He smiled with a mischievous grin, a blood ball forming in his hand.

...

In the goblin village the atmosphere was calm and still. Various lanterns were lit up hung on windows, outside doors, in houses illuminating them. Several guards stood on patrol, armed with weapons.

Some parts of their body clothed in pieces of armor. None exceeding more than two or three at most.

In a big flat house covering some decent space, nicely crafted with bricks and strong metals. Various candles and lanterns were lit, illuminating the spacious house. Several goblin guards stood at attention in dedicated spots, of no more than 4 meters apart guarding the house.

’Why do I have this feeling something’s about to happen?’ A figure wondered, prancing back and forth a window with a lit up candle.

Yuma as the second in command and directing leader, placed her hand to her chin. Her eyes staring outside, with her mind lost in her own thoughts.

Ever since that day she’d never been herself. No goblin here has! It was like they were face to face with the devil, and the cold arms of death. Just his aura alone could make one die over and over again.

"Why did he leave me as second in command when I tried to kill him?" She wondered, the thought being on her mind ever since. She wasn’t acting, literally siding with the goblin king seeing jack half defeated.

The goblin king was a powerful leader, having an arsenal of deadly skills far surpassing any of them. At first, she thought jack could kill him. but she changed her mind, in attempt to find favour in the sight of the goblin king.

’I won’t let you down.’ She inwardly thought with a determined expression.

’Boom!’ Her thoughts were cut short, as an explosion occured from the east side of the village. Yuma’s eye widened in surprise, clearly knowing the location of that spot.

"Intruders?" She muttered under her breath. "But how do they know of the secret locations."

They hadn’t had an intruder for decades, thanks to their intelligence in building secret entrances. And the main entrance was still concealed behind a waterfall, so there was no way anyone could know except-

"We’ve been betrayed." Frowning she lept, softly landing at the entrance of the house.

Prepare for battle, it seems we’ve been betrayed by our own kind. She commanded, equipping herself with two short daggers.

"Yes commander!" The goblin soldiers nodded with a resilient look, tightly gripping their weapons.

"Advance." Her body shot out like a blur, running with speed catching air. Arriving at the entrance of the hidden cave in no time. The soldiers not also lacking behind, appearing some few minutes later.

’They aren’t much.’ Having levelled up multiple times, she also grew way stronger and more perceptive. Now being able to sense aura’s vividly, so she could tell there was just one aura.

’It’s weak, probably a very weak f rank creature.’ She plaused, but it didn’t make any sense to her, why a weak f rank would attack their village alone. Without any backup, and was aware of the hidden entrance.

"Prepare yourselves! it’s just one opponent, but don’t let your guards down. There must be an ambush." She softly said gripping her daggers tightly, awaiting the incoming threat.

’Hopefully, the traps should deal with it swiftly.’ She hoped, setting several traps in hidden spots in the cave.

’Bam! Bam! Boom!’ Several snaps and bang sounds echoed behind the boulder, with the aura inching closer.

’Impossible.. how is it advancing this fast!?’ Yuma’s eye widened with her jaw dropping a bit. The aura was moving like a wrecking train, going past all the traps she’d set.

"B-be prepared! it seems our enemy came prepared." Giving a nod of acclimation, the guards readied themselves.

’Bang!’ The huge boulder blocking the entrance shook a bit, with a bang sound.

’Bang! bang! bang!’ Several bang sounds resounded piercing the air. Different crack lines running along the huge boulder, threatening to break into different pieces. Unable to withstand the terrifying force hitting it.

’It’s so strong.. h-how can it be so strong with such a weak aura?’ The idea of such happening was absurd, as having a weak aura equaled to weak strength and likewise.

’Boom!’ With a final hit the boulder blasted into multiple smaller bits, flying everywhere.

"Defense formation!" Yuma shouted and five guards came forth, mounting heavy shields to the floor. The small pieces of rock bouncing off against the shield, leaving then unharmed.

"Hold~" she muttered, sensing the figure approaching. The smell of explosion mixed with dust assaulted their nostrils.

’Reinforcements should arrive in 3 minutes. We have to hold it down from entering the village until then.’ A flicker of hope flashed across her eyes. Her stomach rumbled upset about this strange presence, but she steeled her resolve.

A leader had to be strong in tough times, and she couldn’t lead with fear clouding her mind.

’I can’t disappoint him.’ She thought, her mind drifting to jack before he left. He’d entrusted her solely, with the care of the goblin village.

Though he said he didn’t place such role to her because of attachment, or high regard. She still chose to live up to his expectations, and redeem herself in his eyes. So if she eventually died here, it would be better than facing jack.

"Till the end!" She yelled storming out with a battle cry, the guards also charging forward with valor. The clouds of dust blocked her vision, so she couldn’t see who the figure was.

"Stop!" Like a switch, the previous weak aura faded, exploding like a bomb. Making them all to freeze in spot, succumbing to this dominating force.

"Kneel." The figure commanded with a light chuckle. And like a command, they went to their knees against their will.

’I-it hid it’s aura, but how? Only high ranked individuals can do that.’ Yuma wondered in shock, unable to move her body. She’d chose to fight with valor till the end, but here she was. Kneeling obediently like a dog, unable to resist this pressure.

’Wait..’ her eyes widened a bit, familiar with this opposing force. Amongst all the creatures she’d encountered, there was only one that had such powerful aura.

’It’s the king.’ Forcing her head to stare up a bit, she could finally see it. The clouds of dust settling, revealing jack standing there with a lewd smile.

"Impressive." his voice was calm but cold and void. Laced with the incredible urge to kill, as his eyes stared with malicious intent.
