The Undead system -
Chapter 58: Overpowered
Chapter 58: Overpowered
"Grrr. Grr!!" The two male fox men growled aggressively, their sharp canine teeths on display. Whatever consciousness they he’d left fading, replaced by the primitive savage nature in their eyes.
"They’ve been like this some few minutes after they returned. At first we thought it was a concussion from loosing their members. But it got worse really fast, which eventually led to this." Karrie explained to which jack calmly nodded, staring at them.
An intrigued look flickering in his eyes locked on them. He could see they were tied up with strong vines that looked like ropes, preventing them from moving further.
Their skin was a mess with scars running along them. Even some parts of their flesh were mangled in gruesome ways, that looked hand made.
"What happened?" He calmly asked releasing his aura a bit. A dark blue mist excluding from his legs, spreading in the room. The two foxes immediately stopped their growls and screams, feeling this omnious pressure.
It was like a hand from the underworld reached out to them, clutching their necks tightly. Restricting their lungs from pumping in air, thereby choking them.
The wildness in their eyes faded, replaced by pure fear staring at this monster.
"Speak." Jack calmly said again, releasing his aura more causing them to fall to the ground, coughing up a strange green substance.
’What’s that?’ He wondered crouching down a bit, staring at the green liquid substance. Jack didn’t know what fox vomit looked like, but he could sure as hell bet it wasn’t green. Thus leading to the question, what this strange substance is.
[It’s poison.] The system uttered analyzing the substance.
’Poison? Now that’s a first.’ Jack shook his head. ’But I thought you said ogres intelligence was comparable to that of a child. So how could they possibly manufacture poisons?’
[S-sometimes.. I honestly wish I could kill you, dimwit!] The system stuttered in anger, frustration laced her every word.
[First of all, the possibility of ogres creating poison is very low, judging by their low intelligence. To make a poison isn’t a walk in the park. Requiring various toxic plants and other materials. Not to mention the mixing process, the timing, and all that stuff.]
[Now, there are different types of poisons, their side effects varying. From my data this is a high level non-lethal poison.] The system said, making jack’s face contort into a frown.
’By high level non-lethal you mean it wasn’t slowly killing them?’
[Exactly.. not all poisons are made with the intention to kill. Some are manufactured to slowly inflict pain on the individual, some disabling their movements. And others such as this, makes the individual slowly loses his or her sense of reasoning. An example is neurotoxin. Turning such person back into their primitive state.]
Listening to his system, jack was glad he had the system to begin with. It was a handful, but no doubt the reason he was still alive to this moment. Supplying him with every bit of information he required.
[Geez.. don’t tell me you’re falling for me pervert!] The system scoffed in an irritated tone, snapping jack from his thoughts.
’Weird.. if they didn’t want them dead then why inflict them with neurotoxins?’ It just didn’t make sense to jack, how a bunch of dumb ogres could perform such.
Looking at them, he could see their necks twitching from time to time. And it was no doubt they were loosing their minds again, as even his aura could only temporarily suppress them.
"Kill them." He ordered making Karrie’s eye go wide, not expecting him to say such.
"Are you sure? They have families and they are well aware these foxes are here. Killing them now could tarnish your image, and cause an uprising." She stated wanting to see his reaction.
During the few times she’d spent with jack, she couldn’t quite grasp his personality. Among all the other creatures she’d met he was unique, having a sophisticated essence.
Not responding immediately jack stared at the two foxes, as if contemplating something. Stretching his hand two small red balls shot out, directly hitting both goblins.
"Ahh.." A sharp gasp escaped Karrie’s mouth, taken aback. She wanted to see his reaction and she not only saw, but felt it.
"I won’t have extra luggage that isn’t useful laying in my town occupying space." He coldy uttered in an indifferent expression. Turning and leaving the room, with karrie and the two screaming fox men.
"T-this feeling.. it’s worse than death." Karrie’s body remained frozen in place, her eyes twitching slightly staring at the door.
’Maybe I went a little far.’ He sighed clenching his fist a bit. Back in the room he could feel the foxes pain and cries. Though they were loosing their minds, they still had somewhat emotions in them. Like the normal fox men they were, before inflicted with neurotoxins.
[Don’t be hard on yourself jack, you couldn’t save them. At least not in time before they finally lost their minds, and became savage predators. Breaking free and going on a rampage, attacking innocent citizens that you’re meant to protect. then what?]
[Will you not killing them give you a sense of serenity, that you saved their lives which then backfired. Will it justify the fact, you let your emotions cloud your judgements as a chief? Being a leader takes more than balls and brauns, it takes experience and logical reasoning. Making tough choices for the better of the town.]
Listening to his system he couldn’t deny it was right. He’d blamed himself for killing them, but the system had clearly stated the neurotoxins had destroyed a large part of their nervous system.
Having no remedy and limited time before they lost it, he acted fast. Deciding to ease them of their burdens.
"All hail the great village chief, all hail the harbinger of death."
"All hail the messanger of the dark one!" The locals chanted with admiration filled eyes. Chanting his praises and calling him enigmatic names, as he passed by.
’Great.. now they see me as the messanger of their god.’ He chuckled slightly. Somping his feet he disappeared from spot, a strong gust of wind trailing after a few seconds.
Entering his room he quickly located his bed, collapsing to it like a sack of potatoe.
"Being chief is tough business." He sighed, hugging the pillow made of soft fur like his life depended on it.
At first, it was fun during the first three days of being chief, but now it was the opposite. His head constantly ached in pain with his body all numb and sore, covered in scars both fresh and already healed. A testament to the battle frenzy he’d been engaged in, these past few days.
"I haven’t even checked my profile." During his fight with the goblin king, various system notification flashed before his eyes.
He could tell he was now in level 17, having levelled up 4-5 times, surpassing the requirement of 15 to unlock the system shop and store.
He could also remember receiving a new skill, a title and-
"An SSS ranked item!" Jack exclaimed, his eyes widening in shock. He didn’t have time to go through his profile in the goblin village, engrossed in his plans as the new king.
He knew how well the ranking system worked, informed by his system. F rank being the weakest, and SSS rank being the highest.
’I thought you said I’d get low level items for starters?’ Jack slyly said with a smug grin, mocking his system.
[Hmph! Beginners luck!] The system retorded, pouting like a grumpy little child.
Ignoring the latter jack decided to check his profile, eager to see his growth.
