Chapter 57: lucky gamble
Chapter 57: lucky gamble
"He’s not awake yet." Karrie muttered staring at jack, sleeping peacefully on the bed. She’d been worried about him not having returned for two days. Even attempting to head out to look for him but luckily, he came back at the right time.
’Is he going to remain asleep till the next day?’ She frowned not liking the idea one bit.
"Mhm." Her frown then contorted into a smile, seeing jack let out a low groan. His eyes slowly fluttering open.
"Chief! you’re awake." Karrie excitedly shouted a bit seeing jack awake. Her tail softly wagging like an obedient puppy, reuniting with her owner.
"Mhm~" Jack slightly nodded still laying down. His body was still in pain, not a hundred percent. And any slight movement, would result to immense pain coursing through his body.
"The town?" Jack softly uttered to which karrie nodded, understanding what he meant.
"Damages sustained have been repaired, and there has been no attacks since you left. Food production has risen a bit, with the scouting team bringing in about two dozens more flocks of sheep. That would last for about two weeks approximately."
’There’s a scouting team?’ He didn’t find it weird they had a scouting team, as it was normal considering their environment.
Scouting team as the name implied were set of selected individuals, tasked to search for items beneficial in the development of the town. Be it either resources, weapons, food, water, e.t.c.
’how do they store their food?’ He wondered how they stocked their food items. Thinking they had a farm, or a large portion of land rearing this sheeps. And other stuff.
But still, they were carnivores, about a hundred or so consuming meat. The portion they had could last them for weeks or months, depending on how they rationed it.
But they still had to restock, as the sheep’s they consumed couldn’t magically refill right?
"Is there another town nearby?" He calmly asked, just having been here for about 5 days. So he was basically still a stranger, oblivious to most things in this world.
"Yes. Just about a day’s journey to the south. It’s a small town comprising of some giant ogres. With few better weapons than the goblins." Karrie calmly stated, hints of anger and resent in her tones.
Till now jack had just been in contact with four mystical creatures, since arriving here. Foxes, cyclops, goblins, and orcs but never an ogre.
’I never could tell the difference between ogres and orcs.’ Jack chuckled, he had somewhat the general ideas about ogres. Being they were just like humans, having the same skin and features. Except they were giants, reaching seven to more feet’s high.
Having enormous strength and carrying heavy sized weapons or knives, used for cutting open the stock.
[Though ogres and orcs share some similarities they are different. Ogres having human features, are man eating creatures themselves. Depriving pleasure in consuming human meat especially the tender one’s, like new born babies and little children.] The system explained to which jack took in, without any emotion whatsoever. He was already an undead, accustomed to the harsh ways of life.
So what could a few man-eating ogre giants do, that would faze him.
[They stood between 9 and 10 feet tall and could weigh 600 to 650 lbs. Ogres have amber blood, which then turns black after a few hours. Their intelligence is comparable to that of a human child, so they can easily be manipulated.]
"How many loses from the scouting team?" Jack’s voice snapped Karrie from her thoughts, jolting her body awake.
’How does he know?’ She wondered amused staring at jack. She’d tried her best to hide this information from him, but unfortunately she couldn’t as he was very perceptive.
"Almost all of the scouting team were wiped out, only few survived chief." She said in a low tone, her head lowered a bit.
[She’s really a fine loyal fox woman. Who knows you might-]
’Enough perv! Don’t cloud my heads with your unholy thoughts sinner.’ Jack inwardly rebuked his system. chanting holy mantras he formed, to exorcise the plague known as the system from his mind.
Sitting up straight he had a stern expression. His gaze sharp and intimidating, sending shivers down Karrie’s spine seeing him staring at her.
’H-his aura.. is it just me or is it more dominating?’ Karrie could also feel it. Jack’s aura was nothing like before he left, changing greatly. Like a wrestler on high steroids, boosting his overall stats temporarily.
"You don’t have to be hard on yourself, it wasn’t your fault." Like a knight in shining armour, Jack’s voice was cool and enchanting. Breaking the clouds of dispair hovering above her head, the warm sun rays enveloping her.
"They’ve been gone for five days, just the amount of time I killed jin. so it must mean he was the one who sent them right?" He softly asked, his tone calculative making Karrie blush uncontrollably.
"Y-yes chief, you’re so wise and hot- I mean kind!" She retorded averting her gaze away from Jack.
’What’s wrong with her?’ The latter frowned, seeing red marks on both her cheeks. Indicating how hard she was blushing.
All his life he’d been found ugly, broke, and trash in the sight of women, so he didn’t bother. Only Kelly saw something special in him, sticking close and growing their bond. Eventually leading to their playful, crazy relationship.
[She must be a machoist. Quick! Kill her now before it’s too late.] The system warned to which jack rolled his eyes.
"Are there any high ranking civilians amongst the scouting team?" He broke the silence garning Karrie’s attention.
"Uhhm.. no, not at all. They were all low powered citizens, trained by Jin in the arts of stealth." She shook her head slightly, confirming Jack’s suspicions.
’Of course.. the scout team were mainly composed of foxes.’ Being they had the greater advantage, than the rest creatures here.
A scouting team was known for one thing and one thing mainly. Primarily being their stealth, invading a location unnoticed and leaving undetected. They didn’t necessarily posses any strong individuals, relaying mainly on their stealth and hidden corners.
Now such elite team of scouts would definitely consist of individuals, possessing high agility and intelligence. Training themselves in the arts of concealment, and infiltration. A role best suited for foxes.
"Jin followed them always when going for a raid, leaving me in charge until he returns. except that day he didn’t, sending them on their own staying back, sensing a strange prescence approaching the town."
’Hmmm.. guess am that intimidating afterall.’ A smug grin formed on jack’s lip, which then curved into a creepy smile.
"Where are they now?"
"Currently at the retirement home being attended to, by the best medical practitioners we have here." She answered to which he nodded getting off the bed. Calmly making his way towards his clothes hung on the shelf, not too far from the bed.
’It’s washed.’ Jack’s eye widened in surprise, seeing his clothes cleanly washed and smoothened. Making the latter wonder, if they possessed some sort of cleaning detergent or iron.
"Of course! We’re not all savage animals you know.. and besides, it’s my duty as second in command and soon to be wife, to take care of my chief. In any way possible." Her words were seductive, and her eyes captivating. Her perfectly shaped body adding more to her sultry nature, making all that laid eyes on her crave her.
’Why does she feel like a wilder version of Kelly..’
Back in Agathe Kelly was known for many things. Hardworking, diligent, honest, kind and so on. But she was also mainly known for her seductive body, and mesmerizing features. Making many men drool and lust for her, stirring jealousy and hatred in the hearts of women.
She was a flatterer and playful individual, with hints of mischievousness. Her attitude changing, depending on her environment or mood.
But Karrie on the other hand was a full boned temptress. Beautiful and hot, her eyes cunning with intelligence. Her every movement graceful and calculative. Like she had a love skill, or million and one ways to trap anyone in her clutches.
"Wait.. w-who bathe me?" Jack stuttered, realizing his body also emitting the same fragrance as his clothes. His mind didn’t go there earlier after his fight with Jin, but now he was fully aware.
"Oh.. i-it was me." Karrie uttered in a sly tone, her eyes gazing down to a particular spot. The room fell silent with neither party uttering a word, staring at each other awkwardly.
"Let’s go." He spoke shaking his head, putting on the brown fur top already in the pants.
"W-wait.. you can’t possibly go now in this condition." She tried persuading him, but his mind was already made up.
They then made their way out the hut like building, going into town. Various gazes filled with admiration, fear, envy were directed at jack along with several praises.
"All hail the village chief, the harbinger of death and destruction to all those who disobeys him!" The chanted bowing their heads, worshipping him like a god.
[+20 dominion points]
[+20 dominion..]
[+20 dominion..]
The system notifications flashed before Jack’s eye, causing his lips to curve upwards a bit.
’Seems like my gamble payed off on both sides.’ He lightly chuckled, seeing the dominion points flooding in. Before, he’d only gained about three trusted devotees. but now, almost everyone in town pledged allegiance to him.
"C-chief, you’re back." Fartrox, the cyclops stuttered bowing his head.
"A-all hail the great chief of kilroi town, the messanger of death!" He praised, making jack raise a brow at him suspiciously.
Shrugging the duo left fartrox, heading to a particular room. Faint cries and screams escaped the room from time to time.
"What happened to them?" Before his eyes, jack couldn’t see foxes with intellect, but the primitive savage foxes they were.
