Chapter 56: Decision
Chapter 56: Decision
The UDA meeting room was silent, staring at the fuming young man. He looked like the hulk, with his veins on display, anger written all over his face. His face was already red, and one could’ve sworn steam would soon potruded out his ears, with how mad he was.
"Oh! that would be me." A feminine voice spoke raising her hand. Baek’s eye immediately locating the perpetrator, his face getting redder. Like an overriped tomatoe, about to explode any moment now.
"You~" he snarled, his eyes twitching slightly staring at governor xia with murderous intent.
"How dare you!" He screamed like a madman, unaware of the noise he was generating.
"Baek you’re disrupting the meeting." Marcus frowned, seeing another obstacle in the form of baek. The latter was no stranger here, well known amongst all the world leaders here.
Apart from the visible powers running the three continents, there were also underground tycoons. Given powers, equivalent to the post attained by the leaders. Based on how large their network scale was, and how efficient they were in handling tasks for them.
Simply put they were the underdogs, tasked to do the dirty works of some leaders and other influential people in society. Thereby making them extremely valuable, and hard to get rid of.
"Don’t dare interfere old man, I have a score to settle with her." He frowned slowly approaching xia. His steps heavy and loud, with the heels of his shoe making clank noises as he walked.
"Y-you ruined my day, and not to mention you almost killed me!" He yelled some balls of tears sliding down his eyes. Tilting her head a bit, a surprised look flashed across her face. Quickly fading as soon as it came.
’So that was his Juliet.’ She chuckled softly, shaking her head a bit. This act didn’t go unnoticed by baek however, further enraging him.
"W-what the hell are you laughing about."
"Nothing. I just didn’t think a ruthless fellow like you was romantic." Her eyes peering at him intently, visible tints of red marks appearing on both his cheeks.
"O-of course am romantic you witch." He clicked his tongue, leaning back a bit. His heart pounding hard against his chest.
"If you say so. I apologize for almost running you over." Xia said without much emotion, but baek was fine with the apology.
"But, it’s your fault for being a lovestruck idiot and almost getting your life ended for some girl. Am sure she doesn’t like you, know why? Because you’re a bitch." Her voice was cold and stern, making baek clutch his heart.
Xia was known for her coldness, but this was much more colder than her usual self.
"Damnit baek! you have to leave now or I’ll be forced to have you thrown out." Marcus interjected already having enough. There were other important matters to attend to, than a heartbreak scene.
The room fell silent as baek was still frozen in place, his eyes twitching uncontrollably. Seeing the latter had no intentions of leaving, Marcus then gestured to two guards to take him away.
"N-no~ you can’t throw me out, am one of you!" He shouted held by the shoulders, escorted out the meeting room by the guards.
"Let go of me idiots, I have rights!" He yelled but they paid no attention, forcefully pulling him away from the room.
"Ha.. now that’s settled off, we are yet to come to a conclusion on how to settle the tie." Marcus frowned, still yet to come to a conclusion on the matter at hand. There wasn’t much option they could go with, except handing it over to the public.
Which would take some time, as the continents were populated with people, Agathe being the most populated. And there wasn’t any effective means of making a vote. As they were still lacking, in the area of distributing information efficiently.
And then there was the option of getting a vote from an individual, with power equivalent to the world leaders.
"Wait!" a voice blurted out, with baek hurriedly making his way back panting a bit. The two guards escorting him out following shortly after.
"W-why the hell is he still here?" Marcus stuttered in anger, a testament to his rage for such individuals like baek.
"We’re sorry Mr president. He outsmarted us by running out the elevator at the last moment, before it’s doors shut."
"Well, what are you waiting for? Get him out of here!" Marcus ordered to which the guards obeyed, approaching baek.
"Wait.. i-i have something to say."
"Lies." Marcus scoffed perceptive of his tricks. "Take him out." He gestured with an indifferent expression.
"Wa-wait.. but I haven’t made my vote yet!" He shouted garning everyone’s attention to him.
"Bullshit! We can’t possibly take his vote as a count." Xia retorded sensing something fishy here. Knowing baek, she knew he was an arrogant and prideful man. Though laced with these bad qualities he had a good heart, but sometimes made bad decisions.
"Technically he can as he is part of the ember group, one of if the high underground powers." Marcus smiled to which xia scoffed with a frown.
"Governor xia is right. The only reason we placed underground organisations is to not only do our bidding, but take care of the slums. We know how things can get nasty from time to time, which is their duty to prevent it." Jacob spoke getting up. He knew xia couldn’t take on marcus alone, so he joined in.
"I agree." Alex also stood up along with Bruce and pam.
"Haha! Am sorry, but ex leaders and their drivers opinions doesn’t count." An eerie chuckle escaped Marcus mouth, seeing them outnumbered.
"I agree too." A young woman with blonde hair, and crystal blue eyes butted in.
"G-governor seraphine.. i-i didn’t expect you to-"
"Shh.. don’t bother. What are we sisters for, right?" She chuckled darting a cold glare back.
"I-i too wold like to withdraw my vote."
"Yeah me too."
"That’s just paper let’s do voice!"
One by one they revolted against Marcus and Bryce, siding with xia.
’So that’s how it’s going to be.’ Marcus inwardly thought with a sigh. ’Guess humanity isn’t ready yet.’
"I guess the decision has already been made then."
...
At the outskirts of harum city in Agathe continent, a huge factory could be seen. Smokes of different colours excluding from the tall steel reinforced pipes, in each section of the building.
This terrifying building was so large it had to be spilt into different sections, though it was just one. Swarms of people buzzed in like flies each dressed differently. Their ID card hung on their necks, giving them free access to move about.
About three steel reinforced gates were fenced round this huge factory. With various armed guards, dressed in special black ops uniform. Adding an extra amount of security, guarding this factory.
Multiple cars were parked at each car park space, at the sections of this large factory. Each parking lot spacious enough to contain at least 50 or more cars. Written bold in green were the words Enders power source, Embedded at the top of this building.
Going in a lesser building by the right, just a bit away from a parking lot by the corner, several white round chairs and tables were placed in the reception. With dozens of artificial flowers, beautifying the space already painted white.
"My masterpiece." A man in white lab clothing smiled, staring at another figure in front.
This figure didn’t look human, not in the normal sense at least. Strapped to some tubes, connected to different huge sci-fi like machines.
Readings of primary colors displayed across different screens, varying in sizes. Displaying the individual vitals showing normal signs.
"Those fools could never understand science if it hits them in the face." Bryce frowned clenching his fist a bit. He knew the leaders of the three continents didn’t all like him, and he felt the same way.
To be honest, he didn’t like people at all. Antisocial and chose to refrain from people, allying with the few like Marcus and others, that shared the same vision as him.
"The first ever bio-matter sentinel." A diabolical grin formed on his face, as he rubbed his hands together excitedly.
The ideas of sentinels came to him few years back, when he was much younger. As an orphan not having parents, he fought his way on the harsh streets of harum city.
Gradually developing an interest in science, which led to his obsession of constantly thinking of new ideas to create. Which led to his breakthrough when he was just 10 years of age, having created the first ever cellophone.
Capable of transmitting and receiving information. Connecting loved ones and individuals far apart, with just a dial of a button.
"Bryce! Bryce!" A voice called out snapping him from his thoughts. He could see romi, his male assistant and leading innovator, hurriedly making his way towards him.
"What is it?" Bryce asked impatiently, typing some things on his tab.
"T-the UDA meeting today. It was going smoothly as planned, until both governor xia and seraphine stepped in. Turning the other leaders against you, with Jacob and his family."
"Jacob.. that old devil." Bryce frowned, his fingers hovering over the keyboard. Letting out a small sigh, he dispelled his brewing anger.
"So, they’ve made their decision." He shook his head a bit.
"Well so have I." His tone was dark, carrying an unsettling sense of uneasiness. His eyes locked onto the unconscious subject.
