Chapter 50: Worst nightmare

Chapter 50: Worst nightmare

With newfound energy coursing in him, jack sped with profound speed. His steps accurate and precise. Even his ragged breathing had returned to normal, going slow and steady.

"I have to end this quick." He was already spent, engaging in various battles today. He’d started his onslaught early in the morning, but it was now around noon time. Some hours passing by as he’d been in battle for his life.

He could tell he was on borrowed time, even after receiving the two life gem. It boosted his power a bit, restoring his health and body state. Like a drug that instantly pumps the heart faster, charging the cells.

Jack was unsure how long he could last with this newfound power, but one thing was for sure. And that was this power was limited, so he had to be careful and end things fast.

’My body is still in pain but I can’t quit now, I’ve come too far.’ Clenching his fist he gritted through the pain, replaced by adrenaline.

"So.. you’ve decided to betray me huh? As expected from a wild beast with little intelligence." A light chuckle escaped the goblin king’s mouth, staring at the horse. Shaking his head, he then blankly gazed at the incoming jack with bloodshot eyes.

"Am afraid you’ve chosen the wrong side!" His aura bursting out from him like a small bomb. Making a small crater where he stood.

Waving his hand, several small dark runes of five appeared in his front. Shooting out rays of dark beams the next instant. Dodging the first by side stepping, he avoided the next two beams. They were fast but he could keep up with their speed.

"Impressive.. but let’s see how you do against 20." He roared, as 15 more dark runes appeared in front. Blasting out beams of dark rays continuously at jack.

Twisting his body he avoided some beams, leaping from side to side stopping his charge momentarily. He was confident dodging 5 dark beams, but 20 was on a different level.

Stomping his foot he propelled his body, landing on a tree branch in hopes to regroup. But wasn’t giving the chance as the dark runes changed course, blasting off dark rays at him.

’I can’t get close to him with those beams.’ Jack frowned running from side to side nonstop. He’d tried running in a circle round the goblin king, in attempt to find a spot to penetrate. But it was futile as he surrounded himself with more dark runes.

’I can only conjure up 5 more blood balls before am spent.’ His stamina was low and he could only shoot out some amounts of blood balls, before he collapsed in exhaustion. So he was careful not to waste his only source of attack, as he still didn’t know how strong these runes were.

And he was guessing this goblin had some more trump cards up his sleeves.

[Based on his attack pattern am betting this goblin is a mage. Focusing on long range attacks of magical skills, refraining from physical hand to hand combat.] The system stated analysing the goblin king.

’I didn’t think of that.’ Now that the system had mentioned it, jack could see there wasn’t any weapons attached to the goblin king. Which was a bit weird, as the other goblins guards and even knights held weapons.

Mages were individuals with high magic power, that focused mainly on casting spells and conjuring up lethal skills. They didn’t train or harness their body physically, like knights and bodybuilders. Focusing solely on increasing their magic and enhancing their skills.

’So he’s not that strong without his spells huh.’ Jack smirked, now having knowledge of the goblin king weakness. Primarily, a mage was basically having little to none knowledge about hand to hand combat, or handling of weapons.

Only equipping themselves with magical items, that would boost their overall magic power, thus enhancing their skills. Looking at the goblin king, there wasn’t any magical item he could spot equipped to him.

"Argh!" Jack grunted as two dark beams struck him in the chest. Potruding out his back. Blood flowing down from the small hole, dyeing the floor red.

’That hit took away 7 health points each.’ His eyes widened in shock, staring at the system notification. He guessed the strange dark beams were powerful, but didn’t know how powerful they were. Since the goblin king was a rank E creature, he’d guessed the beams wouldn’t be that powerful but he was terribly wrong.

’I can’t keep hiding.’ They were in an open space, some few steps away from the steep steps, leading to the cave at the entrance where jack came from. There weren’t much objects he could use as shield, as the tall rocks were blasted into bits. from the onslaught of 20 dark beams firing at it.

The trees weren’t any better giving little defense, before succumbing to the barrage of attacks. Cornered behind a tree Jack’s mind raced on what to do.

[Though his aura is strangely higher for an E rank goblin, probably due to a strange artifact..] the system paused, it’s tone becoming more serious.

[Or that horse.]

’Wait.. are you saying that horse is an artifact? And here I thought I was crazy.’ Jack scuffed amused at his systems clumsy words.

[No idiot! It’s no doubt a magic beast which species I don’t know!] The system retorded to which jack rolled his eyes. Already used to his system arrogant tone.

[When a planet evovles so does it’s species, and every living thing in it. Take humans for example, they gain supernatural abilities performing undefying feets. And so does the animals in them. Like dogs, cats, fish birds, and so on even plants.]

[These evolved specimen are called beasts. Their genes being mutated, and their DNA restructured with mana. Giving them abilities and physical enhancements just like humans.] A tinge of excitement flashed in his eyes hearing the system. Not only was he gaining information, but also increasing his intelligence stat.

[+5 intelligence stat point]

"Why does this sound like an apocalypse game." Jack smiled. This kind of stuff was the things he’d read in books.

[Look! these beast are categorized in predator and prey. But some of these mystical creatures choose to form alliances with humans, for several reasons. Thereby forming a pact.]

’Wait, are you saying they’re somehow linked?’ Jack inwardly asked seeing where his system was hinting at.

[It’s just a theory but yes, I think they share somewhat bond. The goblin king’s aura possess similar traits to that of the horse. Even using the same ability.] The system stated leaving jack more confused.

’Same ability? But the horse used blood and barrier ability, while the goblin king used dark and telekinesis ability.’ He’d thought the system was wrong, judging based on assumptions. The horse was still an unknown entity unclassified by the system, so it was bound to suspicions towards the beasts.

[It’s not an assumption. When the goblin was on the horse, it freely used dark and telekinesis ability simultaneously. But now it had stopped using telekinesis, solely relying on dark energy.] Hearing his system words jack couldn’t deny it was right. He was oblivious to the goblin king tactics, aiming to survive and kill the latter.

’Creak!’ A creak sound was made followed by the tree shifting off balance. Jack had chosen to hide behind this tree because, it was the largest so far he’d seen. It’s massive roots could be seen potruding outward.

Being the biggest, it also contained somewhat spacious width to it. Blocking the dark rays, giving jack protection. Also buying him some amount of time to regroup.

"Seems like you’re out of trees." The goblin grinned his gaze cold and sharp. Like a predator stalking his prey, closing in on the kill.

"Think again!" Five blood balls shot out with speed colliding with some runes, exploding upon impact. Erecting some small black smoke, blocking the goblin king’s view.

’Where is he?’ The latter wondered, seeing no signs of jack anywhere. His face immediately turned pale feeling the air change. Looking up, he saw a figure descending downwards with speed.

"Shit." It cursed stretching out it’s hand to create another dark rune. But couldn’t, already reaching his limit.

’Bam!’ Unable to dodge or block having a weak body, jack’s knee impacted his skull. Cracking it a bit sending the goblin king crashing to the ground, denting it.

’Looks like our small gamble paid off.’ Jack stared emotionlessly at the shocked goblin king. His eyes were cold void of life or any emotion. His aura though cold but deadly, contained a certain animosity.

"N-no! Am the king!" The goblin screamed, it’s eyes twitching uncontrollably as jack pinned him. He was a mage without any physical enhancements, so he couldn’t out-power jack in strength.

"Not anymore." Jack coldy spoke his fists clenched tightly. Squirming the goblin king tried break free of this hold, but his attempts were in vein.

"What are you?" He asked eyes widened staring into jack’s eyes. He couldn’t feel anything, no resent, no anger or emotion whatsoever excluding from him.

"Your worst nightmare." Without delay, he slammed his fist continuously to the goblin head non stop. His muscles on display with the thick green veins bulging.

The goblin king’s skull was surprisingly a bit thicker than usual, but it didn’t matter. It only added more thrill to the fun jack was having right now.
