Stopping after a while, Jack’s hands were stained with green blood. Traces of brain juices fragments of skull imbedded into them. Which had already started to dry up.

Glanced at the dead goblin king he was now a mess, with a smashed head. Infact jack was surprised he’d wrecked such havoc, as this looked like the works of wild strength based creatures.

’Maybe I do have a thing for heads.’ He wrily chuckled a bit, slightly shaking his head.

"What’s that?" He wondered, seeing something glowing amidst the mashed up flesh and blood. It was giving off a faint ethereal glow, kinda like the life gem.

’Is it a life gem? But I thought they only come in red.’ Jack thought, holding the small finger sized dull green gem examining it. It looked just like the life gem he’d received earlier, but longer.

And this was giving off a weaker shade of power, compared to the life gems he’d received.

[It’s a goblin crystal.] The system spoke, dispersing jack’s delusions of it being another life gem. Making the creepy smile on his face subside.

’Goblin crystal and not gem?’ He clearly knew what crystal were, having some knowledge from his years of working at j and j. A mining company in Agathe. Though they focused on the excavation of gold, they also mined other precious mineral.

An example was diamond. Though jack had never seen a diamond up close before, he did hears rumors from other colleagues. Speak of it’s rarity and incredibly durable state.

Agathe being the lowest among the continent was the most populated, with limited resources. Making diamond mining a special occasion, if they found any whatsoever.

[A crystal is a solid material with a repeating atomic structure, while a gem is a cut and polished crystal or mineral that’s valued for its beauty and rarity.]

"So a gem is basically a lesser version of diamond?" Jack theorized based on his system explanation.

[Not entirely.. diamond is known or distinguished by it’s repeating atomic structure. While gem’s on the other hand have a more disoriented structure.]

’Great.. now am regretting not going to school.’ Jack could tell his system was mocking him, playing on his intelligence but it didn’t matter. He’d been through much more worse baby!

[Ha.. a gem can be a cut and refined material from any crystal or other minerals. It doesn’t entirely mean they must come from diamonds. The only difference apart from their structures being apart, is a gem is the refined version of diamond from it’s vulgar state. Just like blacksmiths refine rusted weapons and stuff] the system explained all to which jack listened.

’You know.. we’re kinda like a couple with a toxic relationship.’ He teased, receiving a scoff ’mhm!’ from the system.

His breath suddenly sunk a bit, seeing the intimidating black horse in his front. He was aware this beast had been watching him, having a higher intelligence far surpassing any creature he’d met since.

’What does it want?’ That was the question jack couldn’t figure out. Why was this beast here, and what was it doing with the goblin king. Most importantly, what did it want from him?

He knew now thanks to his system beasts form pacts, like signing a contract with an individual for several reasons. Some being to boost their power, granting the companion a befitting reward in return.

Other’s to feed off from their master’s power, which makes them evolve rapidly besides their master. Of course this could only happen with high level individuals.

The reasons being endless. But, what jack couldn’t figure out was why it had chosen to side with the goblin king. It was no doubt the latter was weaker than it by a margin. Not even possessing high magic power, he could feed from. So, what was so special the horse stuck with the goblin king?

"I didn’t allie with him. I was simple fulfilling centuries of a deal made, between their ancestors and the dark one." The horse spoke as if reading jack’s mind.

’Wait, he can’t hear my thoughts right system?’

[Unfortunately am unable to tell, but most magic beast can’t necessarily read thoughts. Except the ones who’s intellect have evolved greatly.] Looking at the horse, jack could swear it had a smug grin on his face. As if confirming his suspicions of it reading his thoughts.

"This dark one that you speak of, who is he?" Jack asked wanting to know. Since he arrived in kilroi town and even here, he’d been hearing the locals make mention of the one they call the dark one.

Now, he had his assumptions it was hades but it was just a guess. Thrust in a fantasy world he didn’t know what to believe anymore, as reality itself seemed to be fading.

"In time you will know the whole truth. But for now, I reward you with the two life gems as promised." Again two drops of blood slid down it’s eyes. Hardening and forming the previous life gems he’d recalled.

It then slowly floated in the air, softly landing on jack’s palms stretched open.

’Incredible.. such a fragment of this containing such power.’ He could feel the energy radiating inside this small gem. No doubt it housed, an unknown force of incredible power.

’I wonder how a real full life gem would be. Or is it crystal?’ Jack was oblivious to the source where this life gems came from. So far, the horse had been producing them with it’s tears. Making him wonder if the horse was the source itself.

Turning the horse was about to leave and jack couldn’t let it, not having enough answers yet.

"You mentioned something about me being the one, what do you mean? D-do I have a family somewhere?" He boldly questioned with determination. He knew of reincarnation, but just didn’t think it was real until a couple of days ago.

Which begged the lingering question he’d been pondering on. Did he have a past life in a similar alternate world? And worse, was he killed and forced to reincarnate as an orphan in Agathe?

Stopping in it’s tracks the horse aura softened, dispelling. It shook his head slightly signalling an answer.

"I cannot answer that question as your past I do not know." He honestly said, but jack could sense some hints of conflict in it’s tone.

"Stay well jack.. I have my eyes on you." With that the horse neighed, disappearing into the wind like it was never there.

"What a strange horse." Jack couldn’t help but muse, captivated by such a compelling free spirit.

Getting up, Jack held the two red life gems and green crystal he received from the goblin king’s skull. Scanning the area it was a mess, with tales of a battle happened here.

Shaking his head jack calmly made his way to Yuma. He could see she was still unconscious, though breathing but faintly.

[She lost a lot of blood from being hit by the goblin king dark rays. Am afraid her body can’t heal unless absorbing a crystals.]

’When you say crystal you mean the goblin king’s crystal?’

[Yes exactly. Humans, creatures and even beasts themselves consume crystals for various purposes. To grow stronger, strengthen their core, evolve to the next stage e.g. while some on the other hand absorb the crystals, to heal themselves.]

The system said and jack could tell it wasn’t done, as there was going to be a but attached to it.

[But.. these crystals are not pure and need to be filtered out first, before absorption process. Luckily with a bit of training one can harness such crystals, as the body is designed to refine such crystals.]

Nodding, there was still some things the system wanted to say. But jack wasn’t in the right state to listen. The effects of the life gem wearing out, as the adrenaline faded into smokes.

The painful and excruciating head blaring pain assaulted him. Followed with the wares and tears he’d sustained in battle, taking revenge ten folds.

’I must be really strong to perform such feets.’ A smug grin formed on jack’s face as he praised himself.

[Hmph! Don’t get cocky with me idiot. You’re still a lesser being compared to me.] The system coldly said to which jack rolled his eyes, conceeding defeat.

’Is she really worth it?’ Jack contemplated. Yes she helped him into the village even killing her own kind, but they had the same agenda. To kill the goblin king which was a mutual understanding, she’d long taken.

But, she’d also switched sides and teamed up with the goblin king for a moment. Then switched again to jack’s side, going against the goblin king.

’I hate these situations.’ he frowned staring at the small finger sized gem.

"How do I refine it?" He asked surprising the system a bit. Not expecting him to make such choice.

[You’re getting soft jack, you’ll die faster that way]

"Am already dead jerk." Jack chuckled slightly shaking his head.

[Alright then just place the crystal to her head and your palm over it. Leave the rest to me.]

’Wait.. just like that?’ His eyes widened in surprise, expecting some rigorous training of some kind.

[Unlike others dimwit you have me. A cheat and a loyal friend.] The system proudly declared making jack raise a brow.

’Loyal? Someone’s getting soft system.’ Jack chuckled to which the system inwardly scoffed.

[Place the crystal!] Ignoring the systems rants, he placed the crystal to Yuma’s head. His hand over them both.

[Activating refining process..]

The system notification popped up, and he could feel something twitching in his arm. Looking, he saw the dull green crystal glowing brighter, pulsing more. It swirled rapidly like it was going to explode, but slowly calmed down after a few minutes.

[Refining process is complete!]

[Yuma has successfully absorbed the goblin king’s crystal, she has levelled up thrice!]

"What!" Jack was taken aback. "Just from absorbing a rank E crystal and she’d evolved thrice."

[Her stats have increased..]

[Hp and body state are now being restored]

He could see it, the wounds she sustained closing, her breathing coming up.

"Let’s hope i put on a good show for them." Jack grinned turning, seeing some groups of goblins at the other end watching on.
