Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Utterly Foolish

During her three years with the Leclair Family, she never once shared a meal with them at the table. Her mother would always send her off early with breakfast, avoiding the young masters and misses of the Leclair Family. Even during the New Year, when the Leclair patriarch returned from the South Seas and the three branches of the family gathered together in joy, her mother would bring her a separate plate of food to her room and caution her not to make a sound.

She came from a poor background, and when she first arrived at the Leclair residence, she was even more destitute than the servants. Her mother had just given birth to Little Zhen and her position in the family was unstable, treading carefully in every aspect. At fifteen, she deeply understood the rigid and oppressive class hierarchy—she lived at the bottom, devoid of dignity, and her mother was no exception.

Ignatius Leclair quietly finished his coffee, his handsome features becoming blurred and indifferent amidst the fragrant coffee mist.

"I don’t want you getting close to Mrs. Carter, and I imagine Mrs. Carter feels the same way."

Each word struck her heart.

"Regardless, she’s my aunt," Delphine said coldly. The real villain was capitalism, was the aristocracy. Her mother had simply been terrified of hardship and unable to let go of the comforts of their life now, blind in her choices.

Ignatius sneered and spoke icily: "When you were born, she abandoned you. Five years ago, for wealth and power, she watched as you were thrown out. Last night, she stood silent while you were humiliated by Mrs. Yeager. Delphine Carter, in her eyes, you’re worthless."

Delphine’s face turned pale. She put down her chopsticks, suddenly stood up, and stared at Ignatius firmly, her voice distant and detached: "I care about her, which is why you can use Mrs. Carter and Little Zhen against me, isn’t that right?"

Ignatius’s lips curled with a sinister and cold intent. He reached out to touch her cheek and laughed deeply: "Foolish to the extreme. That’s why you’ll never escape the palm of my hand in this lifetime."

Delphine pressed her thin lips tightly together.

"Take Miss Five to the hospital and make arrangements for what comes next," Ignatius ordered, before elegantly rising and walking away.

Maximilian glanced at Delphine apologetically and let out a low sigh.

When they arrived at the hospital, it was nearly ten o’clock, and the special-care ward was packed with members of the Yeager Family. Leo Yeager lay on the bed, his head wrapped in layers of bandages, crying out in pain with every other word. Mrs. Yeager and the Yeager relatives were alternately yelling for doctors and lavishing him with affectionate comfort.

Delphine followed Maximilian inside.

"Mrs. Yeager, Mr. Leclair asked me to bring Miss Five here to apologize to Young Master Yeager," Maximilian said formally.

The moment Mrs. Yeager saw Delphine, she jumped up and cursed, "You wretch! How dare you show your face here!" Saying this, she stormed toward Delphine, raising her hand to strike.

"Mother, she belongs to the Leclair residence."

"Mrs. Yeager, Mr. Leclair sent me here with a message for the Yeager patriarch."

Maximilian and Jocelyn Yeager spoke almost simultaneously, moving discreetly to stand in front of Delphine.

Mrs. Yeager glanced at their stance, sneering coldly before saying: "Your Leclair Family may be all-powerful, but this wretch isn’t one of your legitimate members. She injured my son, and even if I take this matter to the Leclair patriarch, I’m in the right."

"Jocelyn Yeager, you traitor," Mrs. Yeager fumed, and then slapped Jocelyn across the face without hesitation.

Jocelyn’s expression remained unchanged, his refined and elegant features bearing a perpetual smile.

Delphine’s body trembled. Her fingers clenched instinctively, her gaze toward Mrs. Yeager even icier.

"At ten o’clock sharp, Mr. Leclair already arranged for information about an oil field recently discovered in South Africa to be delivered to the Yeager patriarch. The Leclair Family and the Yeager Family will jointly hold the development rights to the field. This is the first message Mr. Leclair instructed me to relay. The second message is that Miss Five unintentionally stumbled upon Young Master Yeager’s rendezvous with Mrs. Zamora. Threatened by Young Master Yeager, she accidentally injured him. If the Yeager Family continues to press Miss Five, Mr. Leclair has stated that this matter will be taken through judicial channels."
