Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Oh, Arguments Are Either The Silent Treatment or Storming Out
Leah knew she had a stubborn streak that led her to dead ends, and feeling frustrated, she called Griffith Squire.
It took a long time for Griffith to answer, and the noise in the background was evident. His lazy, sensual voice slowly flowed through, "What’s up?"
"What did you say to Ignatius Leclair before?"
Griffith raised a sharp brow and chuckled languidly, "Just some ambiguous things here and there. Why, has Ignatius come to demand an explanation?"
"Griffith Squire, did you tell people about Delphine having a child? Are you out of your damn mind?" Leah cursed angrily.
There weren’t many people who knew about this.
"Call me ’big brother,’ Leah Squire." Griffith’s voice dipped lower, his displeasure evident. "This kind of thing can’t stay hidden forever. People are bound to find out eventually. And anyway, that man has been exerting so much pressure on Delphine—serves him right if he loses it."
"Men like you are all the same—worthless," Leah sneered coldly and hung up on him with a slam.
Confirming that Griffith had indeed spilled the secret, Leah was so furious that she had no words left.
Delphine had already figured it out. There was no way Ignatius would suddenly make her get a physical checkup unless Griffith had said something. The man was probably just verifying the truth.
"Delphine, let me be blunt. A man like Ignatius Leclair—a man who always gets what he wants—no matter how much you ruin yourself, it won’t hurt him in the slightest," Leah sighed. "As for the chaos in the Leclair Family, why bother with any of it? You were thrown out back then. Who has ever truly cared about you?"
Delphine pressed her thin lips together. She understood the logic, but perhaps her heart still refused to let it go.
"Leah, just give me a little more time," she murmured softly, her gaze drifting toward the darkening night sky outside the window. When she reached the point of no return, she wouldn’t have to make the choice herself anymore.
The two spoke for a little while longer, then had dinner together and went to bed early.
At the Leclair estate, Ignatius Leclair stared at the deep, dense night outside the window, the corners of his lips pressed into an ever-lower arc.
The old butler, noticing that the young master hadn’t gone upstairs to rest even at this late hour, probed cautiously, "The weather seems to be getting colder. Miss Delphine went to stay at a friend’s house and didn’t bring many clothes."
Earlier in the evening, Dong had passed along a message saying that Miss Delphine had gone to stay at her best friend’s place. The old butler wondered if they’d had an argument. But that didn’t seem right. Even if the young master didn’t show it outwardly, he cared deeply for Miss Delphine.
Ah, the world of young people—it was becoming harder and harder to understand.
The man in the side hall furrowed his brows tightly and let out a cold laugh, the corners of his mouth twitching upward. Ha. They had a fight in the morning for no apparent reason. After the fight, it was either the silent treatment or storming off. Why didn’t she just ascend to the heavens while she was at it?
With a cold expression, Ignatius headed upstairs to rest.
The massive master bedroom was desolate and eerily quiet, an unexplainable emptiness hanging in the air. After taking a shower, Ignatius lay on the bed and closed his eyes to sleep.
It was unclear how much time passed before the man opened his eyes expressionlessly, got up, changed clothes, grabbed his car keys, and sped out with the throttle floored.
Delphine, exhausted from a long day of filming and the lengthy conversation with Leah, fell into a drowsy sleep almost as soon as her head hit the pillow. But it wasn’t long before Leah woke her up.
Wearing a silk nightgown and her delicate, cold face taut, Leah shook her awake and said in a low voice, "Ignatius Leclair is here. I stopped him at the door, but I won’t be able to hold him off for long."
Delphine’s groggy mind snapped into clarity. Staring at Leah’s displeased expression, she couldn’t quite believe it. Ignatius Leclair was here?
