Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Just Drinking Poison to Quench Thirst
Delphine furrowed her brows, a trace of unease flickering across her face, but thankfully Kyla Zamora didn’t press the issue.
The Berlin Film Festival trip still had many loose ends to tie up. Kyla and Jason had come by merely to deliver the good news before heading off to their respective tasks.
On Theodore Hughes’ end, news that the movie "Twin Flowers" had been shortlisted for the Berlin Film Festival had already been released, causing quite the stir within the industry. The Berlin Film Festival holds significant international prestige; even just being shortlisted is an honor. This year, only one Mandarin-language film had made the cut, which speaks volumes about the exceptional quality of this movie.
It could be said that "Twin Flowers" had garnered immense attention even before its premiere—let alone mentioning that its lead actress was a relatively unknown newcomer.
Fans nearly went wild with joy upon hearing the news. The recycled content Jason had been endlessly rehashing before was finally replaced with something fresh, much to the relief of Delphine’s fanbase, who had often joked about wanting to lynch the shameless manager. At long last, there was a new schedule to look forward to.
If the film were to actually win an award, it would mean that Delphine would secure an international accolade with just her second movie—a jaw-dropping achievement within the industry, and an exceedingly rare feat.
No matter the speculations and debates buzzing outside, Delphine didn’t fixate too much on the Berlin trip. After finishing work, she left the set only to immediately spot Leah waiting by the car.
Leah, clad in a sleek black blazer, exuded an air of icy charisma. She deftly brushed off the advances of an overeager admirer before lighting up at the sight of Delphine, waving animatedly.
"You’re staying at my place—are the Leclair Family okay with that?" Leah asked as she lowered the convertible’s roof, flipping her hair before speeding off with practiced flamboyance that attracted a tail of cars behind them.
Since arriving in the South Seas, Leah had heard bits and pieces about the Leclair Family. She knew Delphine had a biological mother residing there and had somehow managed to cross paths with Ignatius Leclair, the family’s heir. No wonder she’d ended up wandering through the Golden Triangle all those years ago.
In the rearview mirror, Delphine caught sight of the stream of cameras flashing in their wake. Seeing Leah’s unabashedly bold demeanor, a faint smile flickered across her own features. Her voice was calm as she replied, "I have personal freedom." At worst, it might upset that man. However, the two of them had both lost their tempers earlier that morning—avoiding him seemed wiser for now.
The car eventually pulled up at Squire Manor.
"My brother doesn’t usually stay here, so feel free to make yourself at home. Just let the housekeeper know if you need anything," Leah instructed as she stepped out of the car, directing the servants to retrieve Delphine’s luggage. She hooked her arm through Delphine’s and led her inside.
Squire Manor was much quieter than the last time Delphine had visited. The area was part of a newly built villa cluster, characterized by opulent, vintage-inspired architectural designs.
Once inside, Leah had the staff prepare dinner and sent the remaining people away. Finally settling on the sofa, she turned to Delphine with a serious expression and asked, "Alright, spill. What happened?"
Delphine’s face looked pallid as she rasped out, "Ignatius Leclair may have found out about the child."
Leah’s brows furrowed sharply at this revelation. She reached out and clasped Delphine’s cold hands, her voice dropping as she asked in a low tone, "Delphine, have you never told him what you’ve been through?"
Delphine’s dark, obsidian-like eyes locked onto Leah’s as she nodded silently.
Leah rose to her feet, struck momentarily speechless.
"Delphine, I thought that by staying with him now, you’d made peace with your past. But if you can’t truly let go of the pain he caused you, heed my advice—cut ties while you can. Heartbreak is better than a lifetime of misery."
Delphine’s complexion grew even paler. That youthful love had drained nearly all of her emotions.
She could never deceive herself. The deeper she’d loved then, the fiercer her hatred now.
