The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 81

Chapter 81: Chapter 81

As expected, many of the people in the crowd didn’t appear pleased to have to give up the people they had bought but Amelia did not care. With Killian’s help, the slave trade would come to an end and hopefully disappear forever.

"Princess," Fabian crept forward to her side to make her at least offer the people their money back. "Since this is your idea, you should use your funds to give the people back the money they spent to buy the slaves."

"If I am going to give anyone money, it would only go to the people who had to endure being slaves, not the ones who bought them. I am not going to reward people who bought other people. The slave trade was not meant to exist in this kingdom but all of you, alongside my father, ignored it and allowed it to grow. No one is getting their money back," Amelia stood firm on her decision.

"Princess, you’re going to piss off a lot-"

"Then I shall have a word with these people as this concerns my people," Killian interjected.

Fabian’s palms became sweaty. The people he was referring to would not want to have a conversation with Killian about the slaves. He would have to warn them to hide the people they bought. "Of course. I will try arranging a meeting for them to have a word with you. We’ll take the rest from here now that you’ve announced your engagement," he said, mostly because he did not want her to give out any more orders.

"Alright. I will take King Killian around to see the town and then head back to the castle. Keep in mind that whatever you tell the crowd will get back to me. Don’t even think about changing what I just said about the slaves," said Amelia.

Amelia once again held onto Killian’s hand and led him off the stage. She took him where it wasn’t crowded and it was mostly their guards. "Thank you. I don’t have anything right now to repay you with but I owe you a favor. If there is anything you want, tell me and I will work towards getting it for you."

"Silly human. All I want is you," Killian replied.

"What?" Amelia said out of shock. She knew he wanted her around to be entertained but the way he said it made her feel funny.

"Are you aware your cheeks are turning red, princess? Did my words embarrass you?" Killian commented on her cheeks turning a faintly red hue. "Are you feeling hot?"

"No," Amelia touched her cheek. She did not believe her cheek would react to such a thing. "What do you want to see first?" She changed the topic.

"As much as a personal tour from the princess herself sounds, I doubt your people want me in their presence right now. They have a lot to process from what was said earlier. You will be in an uncomfortable position if you try to show me the places you like."

"That’s true," Amelia muttered. She had not thought of that at least once. "Still, we shouldn’t waste showing you around. There are places in town that I like where there isn’t anyone. You should see the beauty of the place you wanted to destroy. One day, the people here should be able to travel to the north to see its beauty, then we can stop misunderstanding each other."

"You have high hopes for the future," said Killian.

Amelia looked to her side at Killian as they walked away from the crowd. "Don’t you? In marrying me, don’t you wish for peace so that you no longer have to fight with us? Don’t tell me you don’t have hope for the future."

"I don’t. There’s going to be some fool to ruin the peace. Besides, the people here have feared and hated the north for too long to think about visiting it even if their princess is there. For their image of the north to change, you would need the help of your cousin to help the people here open their eyes. Do you think after we leave he will sing praises about this truce?"

"No," Amelia honestly replied. Fraser wasn’t going to kiss Killian’s ass like he was now. Fraser was not the type to ever want the people here to like the north. "That’s why I won’t depend on Fraser to help change their opinions of the north. You and I will show them that a Blackwell and someone from the north can co-exist together. I will try my best to be a good wife and queen."

"Hearing you speak, I feel like I should continue with burning down your castle-"

"Why?!" Amelia exclaimed but then bit her lip after realizing how loud she was. After the nice things, she just said to him, why was that his response? Did he want her to be negative? "Which part of what I said makes you want to do that?"

"The part where you care for your castle and your people. They don’t seem to reciprocate the same feelings of caring for you. It annoys me to see a potentially good ruler being wasted. The fact they are like this to my future wife infuriates me but I will take joy in stealing away a good ruler they had made good use of. I’m stealing a rare treasure from the Blackwells and they have not realized it yet," said Killian.

"I-I don’t ever think they will," Amelia looked away from Killian. It felt good for another royal other than her grandmother to see her worth. "I don’t want you to set your expectations of me too high. My father never involved me in matters concerning the kingdom so there is a lot I need to learn. I will try to learn quickly unless I also won’t be involved in important matters in the north. I understand if you don’t want a Blackwell-"

"When we go to the north, you will be a Bune and if you desire to sit at important meetings with me, I won’t stop you. I do not have the same ridiculous rules as your father. I believe all royalty should be involved in matters concerning the kingdom. I don’t want you to not have any knowledge of what is happening," Killian replied.

He expected his queen to help him rule the north. Not just be a doll sitting on the throne beside him.

"Thank you," Amelia smiled, happy that she would be involved. "You should know that I am going to learn how to fight so that I can protect myself."

"That is fine but don’t overwork yourself too much as if you are going out to fight in a war. Your hands," he lifted the left hand he was holding midair. "Are smooth right now. I wish for them to remain that way. I will make sure you have the same luxury you have here in the north."

"I cannot believe I am expecting Killian Bune, the man who almost scared the life out of me a while ago, to be a good husband. I suppose it’s even more surprising I will be getting married after being against it for so long. Oh, that reminds me. We will have to deal with the officials from the kingdom I was meant to wed into," Amelia only now remembered an issue they needed to fix soon.

"Which kingdom was it?" Killian was curious to know what kind of man they had in mind for Amelia to marry. Killian hoped that said man would visit to see he had stolen Amelia and he had no intention of giving it back.

Amelia shrugged her shoulders. Even up to this point, she was not certain who she meant to marry before Killian showed up. "I know the kingdom but I don’t know the name of the prince. We will find out when they arrive or after they’ve heard about what happened they will turn around and demand something from us for breaking what my father promised."

"I doubt they will arrive while I am here. Aside from that, where are you taking me?" Killian asked as they had been mindlessly walking with no destination.

"Oh," Amelia looked around. She was not paying attention to where she was taking him. "My mistake. We’re supposed to be going to the garden my mother had placed in town. She wanted have a peaceful place in town for everyone to sit around. There are more in towns and villages around the kingdom. I must visit her orphanages before I leave."

"I wonder how your father was able to marry a woman like your mother. Was he abusing his power?"

"Yes, I heard he did all that he could as a prince back then to get with her. Grandmother said he did a lot of ridiculous things even though my mother said she had someone else in her heart. All of that for him to end up cheating on her and covering up her murder," said Amelia.
