The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 80

Chapter 80: Chapter 80

"He says you will address why I am here," Killian informed her. He was tempted to tell her a lie but he had a feeling that if he ruined this moment she was so worried about, she might never forgive him any time soon.

He truly did not see why she was trying to please everyone. That was something he could not accomplish even as a demon. How insufferable it must be to try to make everyone happy. Again, he didn’t see why anyone would judge her decision to marry him when she was obviously doing it to avoid war in the future.

’Humans are still foolish, I see.’

"Thank you," Amelia whispered to Killian. She released his hand now that they were on stage together. Amelia walked forward to address the crowd but before she could speak, the court minister tapped her hand. "What is it?"

"Do not say anything to rile them up. We were supposed to give you a speech but you never came to us to practice. It’s ridiculous that you slept-"

"Shut up," Amelia snapped. At a time like this when there was a crowd waiting to hear what happened in the castle, he honestly thought this was the best time to try scolding her? "I already apologized for sleeping in. If you are still angry, find another time to address this but not right now."

Before he could say something else, Amelia walked to the front of the stage. "Good afternoon everyone," she greeted the crowd.

"That bitch," the court minister, Fabian, cursed under his breath. Amelia was only acting high and mighty because of her engagement to the king of the north. Did she honestly think that was something to gloat about? She won’t be treated well in the north and sooner than she realized, she would be begging to come back here only for them to reject her. Who would want a princess who became Killian’s whore?

"Watch it you..." Fabian’s voice trailed off when he realized who he had walked into. He was certain Killian was on the other side of the stage.

"Calling my future wife a bitch. You must have a death wish. I will grant you it soon," Killian smiled while staring down at the weak old man.

Fabian gulped, feeling like his life was about to be taken away. There was no way Killian should have been able to hear what he said a moment ago. "M-My apologies, King Killian."

"Relax, I am only messing with you," Killian lied.

"Haha. Good one," Fabian faked a laugh. His body tensed up as he did not believe Killian wouldn’t hurt him. ’Does he like her? That is both interesting and dangerous if it is true,’ he thought. They could use Amelia’s closeness to Killian to kill the man but there was a feeling that Amelia could use Killian to take out everyone who toyed with her alongside her father.

"-the castle has returned to normal so far," Amelia reassured the crowd. "However, it is unfortunate for us to announce that my father has passed away-"

"Passed away or was he killed?" Someone from the crowd yelled.

"Well, the castle doctors are still determining the cause of his death. So far they have not found an answer which means there was no wound to show someone had stabbed him. Therefore, we cannot point fingers at anyone just yet-"

"You want us to believe the man who killed many of our sons did not kill the king too?" A woman stepped forward to yell. She found Amelia to be ridiculous for acting like it wasn’t Killian who killed the king. "You’re ignoring it because you like him, isn’t that right?"

"No," Amelia denied the claim."We don’t want to rule out that anyone here could have killed him. I understand the timing of it all but we must first find out what killed my father."

"The king of the north did!" The crowd chanted.

"Why are you getting out of a carriage with him!"

"Just listen," Amelia said to the crowd. All they had to do was hear her out completely. If it was possible, she would let them know she was the one to kill her father but this was a secret she needed to carry to her grave.

Amelia felt a hand on her shoulder and looked to her side to see Killian. The crowd started to calm down now that he stepped forward.

Killian placed his hands behind his back and looked down at the crowd of humans he could wipe out right now if he wanted to. He knew it and they knew it so their loud comments being thrown at the princess shouldn’t be happening. "None of you look pleased to see me. Why? Did you think after your king kept poking around at my land and people, I would sit still?"

"You’re upset that many of your sons have died? Weren’t you aware there were casualties in war? You should have turned your sons away from fighting for a king who sat on his throne in the safety of his castle while he started a foolish war and sent out your sons to fight. During my time here, I’ve seen plenty of you with northerners who became slaves after they were captured by your king attacking my people. Why should I pity the loss of your sons while you treat my people as animals?"

Amelia looked at the crowd while Killian spoke. They were clearly upset but no one had the guts to speak up against him. What Killian was saying now was something she felt from the beginning. How could they be mad that the north was replying to what they started? She hated seeing the slaves being bought and used. It was fun for the people here to buy slaves and talk about attacking the north until their sons started dying.

"I came here to set this land on fire and free my people. Anyone who got in my way was killed just as your guards would have done to my warriors if I were the one who attacked first and took your people. I killed your king. While he slept peacefully, I poisoned him," said Killian.

Amelia was surprised he admitted this to the crowd but hid her shock. Everyone in the castle believed it was him and he had seemingly taken credit for it but the doctors truly were trying to solve how her father died. They would question why a man like Killian killed her father so easily instead of a more cruel death.

’If the doctors investigated deeper and believed Killian did not kill my father, they would start creating a list of suspects and either me or Cyrus would be on that list. He’s covering for me so that they can stop looking into the cause of death,’ she realized.

Amelia owed Killian a lot for keeping it secret that he was aware she killed her father. Even as the princess, she could be killed for committing such an act. She wasn’t a prince with strong backing for her life to be saved and sit on the throne. That was not her story. Killian could still marry if he exposed her crime. The only difference would be her people hating her for killing the king.

"To protect my people, I killed the man who continuously kept trying to kill them. I took control of your castle intending to slaughter everyone present and all of you standing here, however, someone was able to change my mind. The princess offered herself to be my queen if the north would give up what we came here to do. Instead of yelling at her, you should be thankful your lives have been spared," said Killian.

Amelia felt many eyes on her. A moment ago, she had been trying to explain the situation to everyone but they kept interrupting her. They remained silent while Killian spoke which made her jealous of him. The things he had done throughout the years had given him this reputation where no one dared to yell at him and his presence was terrifying. Amelia wanted to become just like Killian where no one would disrespect her.

"Amelia," Killian called her name and reached out his hand to her."Do you wish to speak about our marriage?"

"Yes," she placed her hand in his. Amelia walked further up the stage to stand beside him. "A union between Killian and I will end the war between the two kingdoms that started long ago. No more will any of you have to lose sons. I will do my best to ensure that this truce will remain solid during my marriage to Killian and for our future children to continue this new peace."

She continued to say, "I can not tell all of you to move on as you have lost loved ones but I want you to look forward to a future where there will be no more Blackwell blood split from the sword in the hands of a northerner and vice versa. With that being said, I order that anyone who has bought a slave must visit the castle to release them. King Killian Bune has spared us and in return, we must release his people."
