The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 69
Chapter 69: Chapter 69
Killian didn’t find any entertainment in her reaction. Where was the fear, the screaming, and then him chasing after her to further scare her? Why was she looking at him as someone who just struck gold? All of the underworlds would freeze over if it were to learn humans were no longer scared by the existence of demons.
"Why do you look upset? Did I say something wrong?" Amelia commented on his expression. "Will you not answer my questions or must I go to Cyrus?"
"Ask away. Nothing ridiculous of course."
"I won’t. First of all, you could have really destroyed our kingdom if you really wanted to. No wonder even our greatest warriors have been unable to defeat you. They will be no match for demons. Why does the north hide this information? No one would mess with you if they knew this." Amelia knew her father certainly wouldn’t have.
"A lot of creatures like ourselves have chosen to be quiet about what we are. We have no need to go around informing the world we are demons. Where would there be fun if everyone runs away from us? Kings like your father have always amused me because of his ego. It’s simply a game to crush that little ego," Killian replied.
He continued to say, "There was also the threat of many kingdoms banning together to try getting rid of us. Not all demons are capable of protecting themselves so a lot of my people would be killed when I am not around."
"All the kingdoms certainly would have united to bring your kingdom down or they would have tried kissing your ass honestly. Next question. I have read many myths about people like you in story tales. Don’t you have a love for fire or something? Why do you live in the north where there is so much snow?" Amelia questioned.
"There is a part of it that’s incredibly hot and should melt all of the snow in the north but there are powers beyond your imagination that hold everything together. I will say it cannot help that one of the doorways to the underworld opened up in a place full of snow-"
"Doorway to the underworld?" Amelia’s eyes widened. She believed in an underworld but figured the only way you’d ever see it is when you die. "Do you just walk into it and go back to your real home?"
"That is how you use a doorway, isn’t it?" Killian stated what he believed to be obvious. "There had to be a way we entered the up-top world and then for us to go home."
"Has a human ever gone to the underworld without dying to get there? Have they ever walked through this doorway?"
"I’ve heard stories of it happening but they have never walked back out. A human entering the underworld is prey walking up to the predator and asking to be eaten. Plus, it is pricey for those who do not belong in the underworld to get out. The coins to leave are not easy to come by unless you go to a demon who will certainly cause you harm," Killian replied.
Amelia couldn’t help wondering what would happen to herself when she became queen of the north. "Must I go down into the underworld when I am your wife? Do I need to become like you in the future?"
"You have no purpose down in the underworld but there are people who will come up to look for you. If you do not want to be turned into a demon one day, you don’t have to. The journey can be painful and there is a chance you might die. Any more questions?"
"How does the temple know about you and why haven’t they told us? That information would have been useful given that we were fighting against the north. I’m almost inclined to break down that door and yell at the priest," Amelia suddenly became angry.
Killian patted her head to cool her down before she could run off to kill someone else. "My kind has crossed paths with many different humans. There’s a group hunting us and a group wanting to save the world from sin. Temples think they hold some power against us. Outside of the holy ground, they do not."
"That explains why Cyrus never entered with me. At first, I thought it might be that the north wasn’t a fan of praying so I never forced him to change. It’s good to know that if I ever wanted to run away from you, I should go to a temple." Amelia started to wonder how exactly the temples were able to ward off demons. Was it solely from praying or their so-called holy water?
"I’m happy to burst your bubble but there are no temples in the north for obvious reasons. As for the one here, it’s not hard for me to break open but I am trying to be generous to please my future wife. Is it working?" He found a strand of hair to play with as he asked this question.
Amelia swatted his hand away before he could make her hair a mess. "No, it is not. You should not destroy a temple if it has not done anything wrong to you. Is there anything else I should know about?"
"Keep what I told you a secret. There will be panic from your side and the peace you seek will never happen."
"Am I to live my entire life not telling my people anything? What if there is a point in time where the north and Blackwells coexist in harmony? Can’t I tell them then?" Amelia felt like she was betraying her people by not telling them what she knew. If she was someone living in town, she would love to be notified the are demons walking amongst her.
"We don’t know what the future holds. Something could trigger the north and Blackwells to go back to fighting even when you are my wife. Your cousin Fraser, I predict he will try to fight the north once he has settled himself on the throne. Would you agree that he is like your father?" Killian wondered if that was why he found Fraser to be a good person to mess with.
Now that Killina mentioned it, Fraser was a lot like her father. From ego to stupidity. Maybe that was why her father considered Fraser for the next king. Maybe her father saw himself in Fraser. "You are not wrong," she replied.
"The next couple of months will be draining and hectic because of the new position you are in. Both as my queen and being surrounded by demons. Do you still wish to become my queen?" Killian presented her with one final chance to back out of this.
"My confidence has taken a hit but I will still marry you. I will prove that I am a good queen to your people. Thank you for pulling me aside to tell me this rather than waiting until I reach the north. That would have been deceitful of you." She would have been upset with him then.
"Do not thank me. Your grandmother was the one to suggest I tell you the truth as soon as possible. I have to worry about her killing me more than you. She cares for you perhaps more than her son."
"I am not going to question how my grandmother knows about the north and its secrets. She has so many stories to tell about her youth and I’m sure I’ll hear about this one soon. That takes away points from me picturing you as an honest man. If there’s nothing left for you to say, I will be going back to my room," Amelia curtsied.
"Already?" Killian held her hand. "The night is young and there is a lot we must get to know about each other. Certainly, you are not used to going to bed early, or are you finally running away from me because you realize the danger?"
Amelia removed his hand from touching her. "I realized the danger from the time we first met. You being a demon just added to it but I am leaving because there is a lot I must think about. Don’t worry as I am truly not running away. You should understand that I would need a moment to think."
"That is right. Come to me when you are ready," Killian stated then disappeared into thin air.
Amelia gasped and almost stumbled backward enough to fall flat on the floor. This was not something she needed to see when she was trying to wrap her head around the existence of demons. Couldn’t he have simply walked away? "I am going to have a heart attack," she placed her hand on her chest to calm her anxiety.
"Princess."
Amelia looked to her right where Cyrus now stood. She assumed he did the same as Killian but magically appeared. "Do not do that," she commented on the way he averted his gaze from her when their eyes met. It was evident he knew that she was told the truth and now he was afraid of her reaction. "Look at me, Cyrus."
