The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 70

Chapter 70: Chapter 70

"Cyrus, I swear if you let this put a wedge between our friendship I will have Gina annoy you," Amelia threatened him. "I am not the least bit afraid of you nor am I upset that you didn’t tell me about it. We’re all allowed to have our little secrets. Please look at me."

Cyrus slowly turned his gaze back to Amelia. There were many humans who could handle learning the existence of demons and not panic. He figured Amela was pretending not to be scared so that he wouldn’t distance himself from her. "I did not want to scare you."

"Well obviously. Strangely, there are scarier things in this castle that make me not afraid of what you are. You know too much about me for me to end our friendship now. You are stuck with me," Amelia smiled.

"What torture."

"Hey!" She exclaimed and playfully marched over to poke him. "Being in my presence is a gift. Would you prefer to be around Fraser? You probably would have made a run for it out of the castle."

"I don’t believe your cousin would have saved me that day, princess. Besides your grandmother, there is no one I have come by in your family who shares your kind heart. You will make an excellent queen, Amelia."

"Oh," Amelia teared up. "You just called my name."

"I have done it before," Cyrus replied.

Amelia wiped her eyes before tears could fall. "But it feels so sentimental now. It’s about time. By the way, I requested that Killian help me find the person you are looking for when we get rid of the slave trade. We’ll need a proper description of her. Maybe I should call in an artist."

"Do not be this king in the north or they will eat you alive?"

Amelia halted her steps and stared at Cyrus with fear evident in her eyes. "Do you mean that literally or...."

"We don’t eat humans anymore. Your souls are much tastier but I doubt anyone would be able to take your soul after Killian claims you as his. They either have to be stupid or his enemy. You must start learning how to defend yourself as soon as you can. People in the north might be strong but you are smart."

"First thing tomorrow-wait. I can’t train tomorrow. We have to announce our marriage to the kingdom tomorrow and there is so much I need to start organizing. Then I have to make sure preparations have started to end the slave trade. I will have more trouble sleeping at night now. Ugh," Amelia stared at her bedroom door when they reached her tower.

Normally, she disliked Cyrus standing outside all night long protecting her door but now that she knew there were demons all over the castle, she wanted him there. She could not invite him inside like the other times due to the fact she was now married and it wouldn’t be a good look.

"I will remain here during the entire night," Cyrus stated as he already knew what was wrong. "I won’t allow anyone to harm you."

"Thank you. Should I bring out a chair? I dislike you standing for so long. I should-"

"Princess," he placed his hand on her shoulder to calm down her nerves. "I will be fine if you just go inside, forget about everything, and sleep. Your people will be even more worried for you if you appear with dark circles under your eyes tomorrow."

"I cannot simply forget about everything but I will try to have a good night’s rest. Goodnight," Amelia entered her bedroom and closed the door behind her. "I should have brought some alcohol back to my room to knock me out. How on earth can I sleep at a time like this?" She sighed.

Her father placed the kingdom in serious danger by messing with the land of demons. It might not have been common knowledge to her even though she was the princess but she couldn’t help wondering if her father had the slightest knowledge there was something odd with the north.

"Is there a possibility he kept poking at the north to find out their secrets? The priests and my father do not get along for them to have talked about the north. Honestly, there seem to be so many questions the priests can answer but they might not come out until all of Killian’s men are gone. I wonder how on earth had the priest found out about demons," Amelia pranced back and forth in her bedroom.

The lives the priests had before entering the temple were kept a secret so that no one could judge them.

"I can sneak into the record room and find out but Killian’s men are all over the place. They’ll certainly notify him which will cause a lot of attention. How many more secrets are there in the Blackwell castle and the north? I have such a funny feeling about the next few days," she touched her head. "Or maybe I am about to pass out finally."

With shaky feet, Amelia made her way to her bed and collapsed on the edge. She had to freshen up and get changed for bed but she felt like her body had no energy. There was no will to move. She could only sit and think about what Killian told her.

"I’ve been bold to a demon. I threw a shoe at a demon. I am about to marry a demon and become his queen. Would I honestly get to remain normal?" Amelia did not want to ever turn into a demon. She liked the way she was now. "I could never take anyone’s soul besides my father’s. Wait, does this mean Killian can visit my father’s soul since it is said that souls go down to the underworld to be judged."

If that was the case, Amelia wanted to know the state of her father. How upset was he with how things were turning out? She wanted to see his anger after learning she would be the queen in the end. Someday, somehow, she would always take this throne from Fraser and give it to her child. She hoped the child to receive this throne would be a princess to help break down a wall placed to stop girls for years.

Amelia lay flat on the bed and stared up at the painting of a castle her mother gifted her. It wasn’t as vibrant as before but she still loved it as much as the day she first laid eyes on it. After she told her mother about wanting to one day be queen, her mother would use the castle in the painting to tell stories about a princess who could achieve whatever she wanted.

Amelia closed her eyes and tried to remember the voice of her mother. Since two years were now passing by since her mother’s death, the voice Amelia remembered started to change but she tried her hardest to never entirely forget her mother’s voice.

For the first time in a long time, Amelia fell asleep without any trouble as she remembered the sweet memories she shared with her mother.

Later in the night, when the moon was at the highest in the sky, Amelia tossed and turned until her eyes eventually fluttered open.

"What?" She woke up facing the window and saw that it was still dark. "Did I actually fall asleep easily? How? Ugh, why did I have to wake up?" She continued to stare at the sky. "I should just," Amelia stopped stalking when she spotted something large flying by her window.

At first, she thought she was still dreaming or maybe she was hallucinating after just waking up but as the memories of Killian telling her about demons came rushing back, she knew she actually saw something fly by her window.

She was full of curiosity but fear told her not to do anything stupid. Killian said they kept their identity a secret to stop humans from panicking so why was whatever this was flying around? Was the castle being attacked while everyone slept right now?

"Don’t tell me large fairies exist and we are being attacked by them. Please go away," Amelia squeezed her eyes shut when there was a loud sound like something had landed on her balcony. ’I am not prepared for any of this,’ she thought.

She had no weapon to defend herself from whatever was on her balcony. Amelia wanted to yell for Cyrus but at the same time, she did not want him to fight with whatever was out there. She prayed for whatever it was to simply disappear to where it came from.

"Leave," she suddenly heard Cyrus’s voice coming from the balcony. "I will not allow you to enter her bedroom while she sleeps. Have you no shame?"

"I only flew by to make sure she is safe. I do not trust someone like you to keep my future wife safe when you can hardly protect yourself," she heard Killian’s voice.

’That thing which flew by was Killian!’ Amelia mentally screamed. It looked nothing like him and now she was wondering if Killian had another appearance.
