The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 67
Chapter 67: Chapter 67
Killian’s words continued to fuel the fire of Amelia’s curiosity.
"Are your people man-eaters or something? And if the temple knows, why have they told us this information? Is that the real reason you want me in the north? I assure you there is no part of me that will taste good," Amelia stepped to the side to put some space between the two of them.
Killian stopped walking to take in the conclusion Amelia arrived at. He placed his hand over his mouth to hide his laughter. She was not far off as some demons used to eat humans but now they have settled for simply taking souls. "That is not it, princess. You don’t need to rack your brain for an answer. I will tell you right after dinner."
Amelia had a bright idea in mind.
"That doesn’t mean you can shove food into your mouth and be over with dinner as soon as the food is served. Besides, I am a slow eater and we will not be leaving until I have finished. I am also incredibly petty and would hold it off until tomorrow if you rush me. I want to enjoy a simple family dinner."
"With whose family? There is never a simple family dinner with my family. There is always drama and insults being thrown around. My father not being around will not change that with Annabelle and Fraser in the same room. They both want the same thing and we’ll have to hear Annabelle being upset with Fraser being named king," Amelia sighed.
"Should I ban the two of them from coming along?" Killian asked.
"No, that’ll only cause more of a headache. And since you have backed down thanks to our engagement, I do not want you to be dictating who gets to stay in a room and who doesn’t in the Blackwell castle. That is our business to deal with. What?"
"You are incredibly bold, princess," Killian chuckled. He was still very much the one in control of the castle even though they were to be married. No one could do something without his approval but he enjoyed the little princess who could make him do as she wanted.
"Now that we have agreed to get married, you are here more of a guest than our enemy. Do not act like the latter towards my people. I hope that the north and the Blackwells can get along starting now. It will be extremely hard considering both sides have caused the death of so many good men and we have started a slave trade with your people. Oh boy," Amelia’s shoulders dropped as she thought about how much work they needed to do.
"Amelia," Killian placed his hand on her shoulder. "You cannot fix what has been built up over the years so relax. It’s a start that your people on the outside aren’t seeing us hand your dead bodies from the gates and us marching away."
"Thank you. Thank was comforting," Amelia sarcastically replied to his words. "I will think about tomorrow after what the people have to say when word of our engagement spreads. I expect some riots because of sons lost in the fights but praises for those whose sons will be able to rest. More importantly, I am waiting for the reaction to my father’s death."
Before they could enter the dining room, Killian stopped her to have an important talk. "You must know someone came to prepare your father’s body for his funeral and they must have inspected the body to find his cause of death."
"That is normal," Amelia didn’t see why this was enough reason to stop her.
"There are no wounds on your father so they will know he was poisoned. I left the north and traveled onto your land for countless days. No one would believe I would grant your father an easy death by poisoning him. I would have stabbed him in the heart or maybe tie a rope around his neck and make him act like my pet."
Amelia finally understood what Killian was trying to warn her about. "They will think you were not the one to kill my father but you are taking credit for it. They will certainly investigate the matter secretly and look for suspects. This should not be discussed here," Amelia said when she spotted a maid approaching them. "We will talk about it when you tell me the north’s secret."
"Very well," Killian said, then pulled Amelia against him so that they could walk into the room together.
"Hey, do not touch me without my permission. We are not officially married. If you want us to walk together simply ask me. What the hell was that?" Amelia muttered, still walking side by side with Killian though she was upset.
"I can see why you and your father might have had bad blood. You are not the type to do as anyone wants of you. You must have pushed him closer and closer to a heart attack each time you disobeyed him," Killian amused himself just from thinking about it.
’If only,’ Amelia thought. She wouldn’t have gone through all the trouble of burning down her mother’s castle if her father would have just dropped dead after their many arguments.
"Good evening grandmother and everyone else. Have you been well?" Amelia targeted her question at Margaret. She did not want to fake being nice to Annabelle and Fraser in front of Killian. Besides, she had done enough talking with Fraser for the day.
"These old knees of mine are aching but they are getting me around. I see many young men I wish would carry me around. Make me feel young again," Margaret fanned herself.
Amelia didn’t know how to take Margaret’s as anything other than being sexual. "Grandmother," she whined.
"Relax dear. I will not have you call some youngster grandfather but it would be nice to be carried around with all these stairs."
"Perhaps," Fraser spoke up as it was a good opportunity to try convincing her to leave. He did not need her to be over his shoulder. "You should return to your home."
"Maybe it’s because you don’t take time out to visit me but you should know my home also has many stairs. I will survive Fraser," Margaret replied and gave Fraser a look not to mention her going home any further. She was already upset with the fact he would sit on the throne. Fraser could hardly persuade her to do anything, how on earth was he going to command anyone else? ’Another fool in a powerful seat,’ she shook her head.
"I can feel you judging me without saying it, grandmother. I know you wish it was your favorite grandchild taking after your son. Isn’t it enough that she will be Queen of the north? I have not been congratulated by anyone at this table for becoming king. Minus Killian Bune of course," Fraser switched his tone of voice from angry to sweet when he mentioned Killian.
"You should not even be picked as King. My unborn child is more of an heir than you are but that was not considered in your little meeting. I was not even invited. What will happen when my child turns out to be a boy? He will be Richard’s son and the rightful heir. Please consider this," Annabelle pleaded with Killian. She was so close to being the mother of the queen for all to be given away to Fraser.
Fraser’s mother is a child of the mistress of Margaret’s husband. There was hardly any Blackwell blood inside of him.
"Your child still needs to wait until it is of age to sit on the throne. In the end, this fool here," Killian pointed at Fraser who didn’t take too kindly to being called a fool but he kept his mouth shut. "Will have to run the kingdom still. Besides, what will happen if your child is a boy is no longer my business. I am butting out of Blackwell’s affairs when it comes to that. It’s amusing that there are only two people seated here with the Blackwell name and they are silent."
"Thank you for dragging me into this while I have been silent," Amelia whispered to Killian. This argument had nothing to do with her but someone just had to drag her in.
"You’re welcome," Killian replied.
Amelia’s right hand trembled at the thought of knocking Killian out for his annoying response. ’If only he wasn’t so dangerous and a king, I would have him on the floor knocked out.’
"I am too old to be brought into this mess but it is clear the only person fit to take after my son is his daughter. She is the only young Blackwell here but she will be leaving soon. If you two want to grab swords and the survivor inherits the throne, we can do that," Margaret shrugged her shoulders.
"Grandmother," Amelia smacked her face while Killian seemed to like the idea.
How could she suggest Fraser and Annabelle engage in a sword fight? Fraser never picked up a sword a day in his life and Annabelle was pregnant.
