Amelia entered the courtyard alongside Killian and Cyrus. She was welcomed by the sight of Blackwell guards laying on the ground either unconscious, groaning in pain, or dead while others stood with their weapons thrown on the ground as they had given up.

Killian’s men filled the castle and they were rounding up anyone they spotted to gather in the courtyard.

"Get your filthy hands off of me," Annabelle’s voice was heard as a northerner pulled her by her hand into the courtyard. "I am pregnant. Release me you animal."

’She’s bold to be throwing insults when they have the upper hand. Then again, she thinks my father is alive to save her,’ Amelia thought. She would enjoy breaking the unfortunate news to Annabelle to watch all hope leave her eyes.

"Who are you?" Killian cast an uninterested look at Annabelle. "You speak as if you have some sort of authority."

Annabelle looked at the man standing with his hands behind his back. From the portrait Richard had shown her long ago, she knew this was the king of the north. ’Why couldn’t Richard have been this good-looking? It would have made giving him my body easier,’ she thought while inspecting every inch of Killian.

"Speak or I shall have your tongue cut out for you to remain silent forever. Who the hell are you? A secret sister?" Killian turned to Amelia. He only knew Richard to have one child and he hardly knew anything about her.

"Hell no," Amelia immediately replied but then bit her lips as the response wasn’t right for a princess. "She is not my sister. Annabelle is my father’s mistress and she is pregnant. Allegedly."

’Why is Amelia standing next to Killian Bune?’ Annabelle thought. ’Did she betray her kingdom and help him enter the castle? Where is Richard? I don’t feel comfortable.’’

Amelia felt someone burning a hole into her head and looking around, she found that it was none other than Ricardo Cooke staring at her. She didn’t understand why he was looking at her with such hate at a moment like this. Did he blame her for Killian taking over the castle? What happened to the wonderful plans he created along with her father to win the war against the north? She should be angry with them.

They were over confident and completely unprepared. You would think they would have better planning after Killian’s men wiped out all their men the day she was used as bait. Instead, they celebrated capturing a few of Killian’s men.

"Go on, princess. Speak to your people," said Killian.

Amelia looked at Killian for a brief moment then at the servants, guards, and others who feared for their lives. "The north has taken control of our castle. Do not try to fight back as we have surrendered. I promise I will find a way to avoid anyone else getting hurt."

"Where is the king? He is the one who needs to talk with King Killian. Not you, princess," Ricardo spoke up from the crowd. "I am a court minister, king Killian. Allow me to speak with you on the behalf of the Blackwell kingdom while the king is not around."

"Why should I when the princess of this land stands beside me and her mouth seems to work just fine? By the way, your king is dead. It would be best for you to stop awaiting his arrival," Killian stated with no sympathy for the loss of their king. "I have only stepped foot in your kingdom to kill your king and now that he is gone, I will try to form a deal to unite the north and Blackwell kingdom to avoid wars in the future. It’s a pain in the ass to come down from the mountain because of you fools."

"King Killian," Ricardo bowed his head to show respect. He could not believe Richard was dead but they could not waste any more time without a leader. Amelia was not the one to make decisions for the kingdom. "I’d suggest you call for Fraser Blackwell. He is the king’s nephew and now his successor."

"I’d suggest you keep quiet. I’ve already made up my mind to talk with your princess. No one will be leaving the castle tonight and if you try to run away, I cannot guarantee you will not die. My men will also rest inside the castle tonight. Please do something stupid. I have been itching to kill someone. Princess, please show me where I can rest for the night."

Amelia took one final look at her terrified people and then back at Killian. "This way," she began to walk to the guest room where royals from other kingdoms would sleep whenever they paid a visit to their kingdom. "If having me be the one to speak to you instead of my cousin or a court minister is your way of making me think you’re on my side, it won’t work."

’He made me look suspicious. I had a terrifying experience with him not long ago and now I am walking beside him. What is this man thinking?’ Amelia snuck a glance at Killian only to find him already staring at her.

"Is there something wrong?" She asked, wanting to know the reason behind his intense stare.

"I should be asking you, considering you are the one sneaking glances at me. Why are you leading me so far away from your chambers? How long must I keep explaining that if I wanted you dead I would have killed you already?"

"There are other things you can want for keeping a princess alive," Amelia muttered.

"Do you think that I am waiting to take advantage of you? If I was that kind of man, I would have done so already but I am not. You are not hard to overpower right here right now but I am not the type to enjoy forcing sexual acts from someone. There are plenty of women willing to sleep with me. I am curious about the princess bold enough to throw a shoe at my face," said Killian.

He found himself thinking about her since he had allowed her to leave.

"It felt like a life and death moment so I used the only thing I had to defend myself. If I do not accept a marriage between the two of us, will a truce still be possible? I truly do not wish for my people to hurt your people and vice versa."

"I cannot trust Blackwells to keep a truce-"

Amelia interjected by saying, "But you’ll offer to marry one of the people you do not trust? I think there’s a better way for our kingdoms to be at peace without us having to get married. We are enemies. A marriage between us will be a disaster. You’ll regret it in less than a year. If I were made queen of this castle, I would never attack your people. You need an ally here in the castle not far away in your kingdom."

"Who has pissed in your cup when it comes to marriage? You are the one demanding a truce to a man who has come here to set this castle on fire. The only logical way for our kingdoms to have a truce is through marriage and I am not marrying the child in that woman’s stomach or any secret sibling you might have. Give up," Killian advised her. His eyes were dead set on her.

It had been a long time since he found a human to be amusing. She should count herself lucky as it was the reason why she was not joining her father in the underworld.

"No. Do you think I am trying to escape one arranged marriage only to fall into another? I have never wanted to be married off to stop a war. The person who started it should be the one to end it. My dream is to become queen of this castle and sit on the throne. It is all I have ever wanted," Amelia said.

"It’ll never happen. Look at how that man stood up to have someone other than you speak for the kingdom. Even if you removed one enemy, this castle will still have more of them trying to get rid of you. Even if I do give you the throne, your enemies will take every chance to go against your decision. By the way, how certain are you that the throne you dream of is the one here?"

"It is the only throne I know. I thought about nothing other than becoming queen." Amelia had no other path in life except the one leading her to become queen.

"Then let me ask another question. Is proving your father wrong more important than the safety of your people? Are you only dreaming of becoming the queen to prove your enemies wrong or are you doing it because you would make a good queen?" Killian asked, then waited to see if she would be honest.

"It is both," Amelia replied.
