The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 55

Chapter 55: Chapter 55

"King Killian, since this is a time to be honest I have to let you know I never liked the idea I was being sent away to marry a foreign prince or whoever it is. I also do not like the suggestion that I marry you. I understand it can create a union between the two kingdoms but why would you want to make a Blackwell princess your queen or mistress?" Amelia asked.

"Mistress?" Killian chuckled. "I don’t need one of those, princess. I am in need of a wife and there is a candidate standing before me. What was your name again?"

"You’ve got to be kidding me," Amelia’s shoulders dropped. When she heard screams flooding the castle she wanted the topic to go back to what was important. "Please call off your men from attacking and we will have a proper discussion in the throne room."

"You still have not convinced me to stop. Why should I leave your people alone just because you have asked me to? That doesn’t seem unfair to my people your father has hurt," Killian stared down at her, amused by what she would say next. It was a shame she ruined all the fun by killing her father but he was intrigued by how she did it.

"It is unfair but I am waving a white flag to you right now. We are giving up right now and I am trying to meet whatever demands you have, king Killian."

"Just Killian is alright. I came here with the intention of mounting your father’s head on a stick first and then setting this kingdom on fire. I don’t care about who suffers as long as I get even for my people you’ve hurt and free them from being slaves. Besides," Killian turned away from Amelia to look at the giant cloud of smoke reaching into the sky. "I like this castle on fire. If you marry me, you won’t have to care about how it looks."

"I threw a shoe at you and you have fallen for me?" Amelia accidentally asked out loud.

"Fallen for you? You’ve gotten ahead of yourself. I am merely intrigued by you and since you are proposing the two kingdoms come to a truce, marriage is the only answer. You are King Richard’s only child, and I am the king of the north. It would make sense for us to get married unless you think that I will just leave your castle with the assumption you will never attack us again."

"Well no, I do not expect you to easily trust us but there has to be another way that does not involve me marrying you. Your people will not be happy with a Blackwell queen and I will suffer there. Why can’t you men settle your wars without a princess having to endure a horrible marriage?" Amelia clenched her fist. She was not born to be used for a bargain. There had to be something more she was destined for.

"Hmm. I will have my men stop attacking for now. This castle is now under the north’s control. We will gather the Blackwell court and have a chat. Walk with me, princess. I need to tell your warriors to stand down and that you have given up," Killian reached forward to touch a strand of Amelia’s hair but once again, Cyrus’s sword was pointed at him. "I will break that and you if you do not stop pointing it at me."

"Do not touch her or I will cut you down," Cyrus warned Killian. Killian was not a good man. He was the king of demons for fucks sake and there had to be a bad reason why he was entertaining the idea of marrying Amelia.

This would not be like last time when Killian’s wolves pinned him down before he could get a chance to fight.

"It is alright Cyrus," Amelia touched his hand to calm him down. The last she needed right now was for Cyrus and Killian to start fighting one another. Killian’s calm demeanor told her that Cyrus might end up seriously hurt. "I am going with him to our men to put down their swords. This is for the best.

Cyrus removed his sword from pointing at Killian but he was still ready to strike Killian at any moment. If Amelia knew what they were she wouldn’t be agreeing to walk with Killian. ’I should have told her the truth about people from the north. She would have been more careful with Killian around,’ he thought.

"If I had any intention of killing your dear princess, I would have done it already instead of standing here having a conversation. I hope you take my words seriously princess. I do intend to marry you to end my having to come down from my castle to fight your people. Ladies first," Killian held his hand out of Amelia to walk ahead.

"You want to marry me and you don’t even know my name. Why can’t this all end with my father’s death?" Amelia asked.

"If you were going to sit on the throne it might have ended here," Killian honestly said. She seemed to have a good head on her shoulders compared to the egotistical kings he faced during his time as king. "Another male from your family will take the throne and there is no guarantee he will be different from your father and want peace."

"Let’s say I somehow agree to marry you, the people here will be against it," she replied. They might think she would get revenge for how she had been treated over the years. This was most likely why no one suggested that she get married to someone from the north and they instead ran to another kingdom.

"They’re scared of what you might do as queen? That makes me want to make you my queen even more. There’s also that wonderful smell coming from you."

’Smell?’ Amelia thought. She sniffed her hand but found nothing other than the faint scent of the soap she used earlier mixed with sweat. ’Is that what he’s smelling? But could he when it is not strong? Is the king of the north some sort of pervert?’ Amelia took two steps to the side to be far away from Killian.

"I am not going to harm you, princess," Killian rolled his eyes, annoyed by her fear. For enemies, he was treating her considerably well as opposed to what anyone else would have done.

"I am not walking so close to a pervert."

Killian stopped walking as it was the first time he had ever been called a pervert in his life and he had been alive for a very long time contrary to how long he looked. "Pervert?"

"You mentioned my scent," Amelia reminded him.

"And that makes me a pervert because I have stated it? The scent is so strong that I am sure your little dog behind there can smell it too," Killian glanced over his shoulder at Cyrus and when he saw the conflicted expression he knew what was happening. "So, you have kept your mouth shut," he chuckled.

’Don’t say a word,’ Cyrus thought. He did not want Killian to mention the evident smell coming from Amelia. He saw her sniff her hand but that was not what Killian had been referring to. She had a fresh smell lingering around her which would attract nearby demons. It was the smell of death after she killed her father.

"What scent is it?" Amelia turned around to get the answer from Cyrus. She could always count on him to tell her the truth. What was it that two northerners could smell that she could not? Did it have something to do with one of the many secrets of the north?

"I do not know what he speaks of," Cyrus lied.

"See, then it is the scent of my soap you speak of," Amelia glared at Killian. It was a natural instinct she couldn’t change and had to look away. She wasn’t in a good place to be glaring at Killian when she was trying to get him to spare her people.

"I speak the truth only to receive a glare but he lies to you and you are on his side. Wonderful. When we get married I will remove him from your side," said Killian. He found Cyrus to be irritating from the moment they met.

"My king," a man appeared out of no one. He inspected the woman clearly from the Blackwell kingdom and another demon walking with Killian. "You called for me."

"Tell the men the fight is over. The princess here has surrendered. This castle belongs to us. Do not hurt anyone else without my command. Go," Killian ordered one of his finest warriors. "Is that good enough for you, princess?"

"Yes," Amelia replied. ’But I am still wary of you,’ she added in her head.

Amelia truly did not believe Killian intended to marry her and create a truce with the Blackwells. He had the castle in the palm of his hands and could take it for himself. Why would he decide to take her back as his queen also?

She heard the tales of royals in her position either being killed, taken advantage of, or sold into slavery. There was no way the man nicknamed the demon king would be nice to her.
