"I don’t know what you are, but it is not funny to pose as the queen’s mother. The queen will have you killed and I-"

"I wonder what our life would be like if I had accepted your offer to run away with you. Amelia is the only thing that makes me not try to think too much about it, but I still wonder. For all that you suffered from Richard claiming you and I were still seeing each other or him thinking Amelia wasn’t his child, I should have taken the risk to continue loving you," Anne confessed.

She had a lot to say before Leonard started judging her or distancing himself from her.

"I was raised by witches. That was why I was always alone in the woods when you stumbled upon me. They would let me walk around a bit so I wouldn’t feel caged up in the tiny house they had. I didn’t expect to run into someone in the woods since my mothers had made it pretty scary to get rid of anyone who might find us," Anne explained, reminiscing on the past as she did so.

You were annoying at first, but I was happy to make a friend with someone who was the same as me and not a witch," said Anne.

"I died because the priests found out about me, but my mothers were able to save me. Well, just barely," Anne added since half of her soul was still trapped in the underworld. "They needed to use a fresh body to do the ritual to pull my soul out of the underworld. Amelia found out that I was still alive because of a witch I knew."

"I couldn’t send a letter to you that a dead woman was still alive nor could I show up in front of you because I sometimes get hungry for human flesh. It comes and goes like it has its own mind. If you don’t believe that I am Anne. You can speak with Amelia and she’ll tell you. She knows me better than anyone," Anne said, nervously playing with her fingers as his silence pained her.

With all the demons roaming the kingdom, Leonard was not certain what to believe because he had witnessed demons tormenting others with silly games or tricks. How was he supposed to know that this was not a demon playing Anne because of his feelings?

The story told wasn’t only known by Anne, but the answer of her thinking of what it would be like to run away with him made him think for a moment that it was Anne. She always said she wondered what life would have been like if they left but then she would look at Amelia playing.

Still, he did not want to be tricked. He came to terms with the fact that Anne was long gone and did not want to be fooled. Not after how long it took to get over that she was no longer in this world.

"A lot of strange things have been happening these days and I should be able to think that it is possible for Anne to come back to life, but I must speak with the queen first. I don’t want to be fooled by a demon," Leonard replied.

Anne was not hurt by this. It was very much like Leonard to confirm something like this. He’ll be putting his foot in his mouth for not hugging her right away soon. If he didn’t believe that there was a possibility it was her, he would have walked away from her the moment she claimed to be Anne.

"Very well. Let us see what Amelia has to say. You stayed to watch over her and somehow she killed her father and married a demon. Must have been a long week for you when it happened. Had you gone ahead and killed Richard when he was supposed to go out hunting-"

"You," Leonard said, grabbing Anne’s hand.

"I am telling you it’s me. I can keep telling stories while we walk. Remember the night you came to me and told me that we should leave? That you would take care of Richard? I always wondered what you found out that made you want to finally kill Richard and take me out of the castle. What was it?" Anne asked, tilting her head to the side as she smiled. She enjoyed every bit of his surprise.

"He brought another woman into the castle to toy with you and since you had not accepted Richard into your tower so he could try for a prince, the court wanted to remove you as queen. Richard would not have let you out of the castle even if you were no longer queen. You would have been trapped here more than you already were," Leonard answered.

"I see. It is like him to do such a thing. I will never understand how he became so obsessed with me when he knew nothing about me. He only wanted me because you loved me. How could he be so jealous that you had something he did not as king and years later, he continued to act like he truly loved me? I wish to know what went on in his mind," Anne said, swinging her arms as she walked to the throne room.

"Well, he’s gone now. No point in thinking about him. At times, I still cannot believe I had a child with that man. Who do you think she takes after? She shares a bit of both our looks and sometimes I want to say that she acts like me, but then-"

"I am sorry for not being there when you needed me," Leonard apologised.

"What are you apologising for? You knew nothing about my life with witches and the priests wanting to kill me if I didn’t listen to them. If you’re apologising for Richard setting his eyes on me because he wanted what you had, don’t. Don’t blame yourself for his actions. I had good memories along with the bad ones in the castle."

"I look at the bright side, which is having my daughter and I had the power to care for children who were once orphans like me. Dealing with Richard was just the cost. I hope you won’t start being weird around me like you were in the past. Richard is gone so I hope we can be close again," Anne said, her smile widening because Leonard started to smile.

"We can be."
