The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 309

Chapter 309: Chapter 309

"I am going to kill that man," Amelia muttered.

"Your husband? I have been there many times, but I have a feeling your reason is just something small that the two of you can get over. What did he do?" Anne asked, curious about what Killian had done.

"He forced me to sleep when I did not want to and was gone by the time I woke up. I know he only did it because he would not be by my side in the morning. When I see him again, I am going to give him an earful. Bring in the next one please," Amelia told the guard at the door.

After a day of getting used to her grandmother being a toad and her mother’s return, she was ready to do as she planned with the Blackwell kingdom. After breakfast, she went straight to the throne room to continue having demons look into the sins someone committed.

Amelia sat on the throne overlooking five demons who looked into the eyes of her people to know their sins.

Those who had killed someone and there was guilt or happiness to it, were placed in one group. Those who stole or conned someone out of their belongings were placed in another group since Amelia wanted them to be given back. Those who took advantage of someone be it a man, woman, or child as their victim, were placed in another group.

There were groups for other things, but as long as they promised to make a change, Amelia would give them another chance. She only let them leave if the demon did not sense a lie.

"I don’t think I have ever been angry with your father for allowing me to sleep. It was always a blessing when he would not visit my room when it was time for rest. I don’t know him well, but I figure your husband must think you needed the rest. How long do you intend to sit here, watching all of this?" Anne asked.

"Until the lines are shorter. I still have to look at each group to see who is worthy of a second chance or needs to stay in the dungeon to pay for their crimes. I wanted to send them down into the underworld, but I think it is better to imprison them. Let them think about what they have done. The things that some of them have done. It is cruel and unbelievable that the castle was never aware of it," Amelia said, looking down at a young woman she knew.

People she had encountered in the past were revealing evil things they did to survive. Killing someone to have their belongings passed to you or killing the woman who was going to marry the man you loved.

"They have no place to be afraid of demons. The fact that I have seen so many of them entering the temple here in the castle. I wonder if they were confessing their sins or asking for the Gods to get rid of someone. I am not perfect since I have taken the life of my own father and many can judge that I married a demon, but I am very open to the idea that I would be punished in the underworld. I have sins that I one day need to be punished for and I cannot find it in me to make excuses like they do," Amelia said.

"Your father was hurting this kingdom during his reign. You protected so many with what you did and there was no telling the kind of king Fraser would be if your father was still alive now. You are giving them the chance for redemption. To be remorseful for what they did and try to change, but you cannot make everyone change so for the sake of the kingdom, you must lock them away," Anne said, not feeling sorry for those in the dungeon.

She listened to many of the stories of why they killed someone, stole, or forced themselves on someone who did not share their feelings, and it sounded like most did it for the fun of it though they claimed it was just something that happened in the moment.

There was a smile when they thought no one was looking since they thought Amelia would take pity on their sad story and let them go free.

There were many people Anne wanted to see locked away in the dungeon. She didn’t want Amelia to feel like a hypocrite for judging the sins of others when she had her own. The kingdom needed these people placed in the dungeon so the kingdom would be safer.

Amelia could not keep everyone safe since emotions would change and those who were innocent now might harm someone in the future but for now, there would be a bit of peace. They were too busy worrying about demons to kill each other.

"What did I miss?" Lilith questioned, poking her head out from behind the throne. "I don’t sense your husband so it means that I am free to stay here."

Amelia swung around to grab Lilith’s hand. "We need to talk right now. Mother, can you please look over the throne? Lilith and I will be back soon. As long as I don’t strangle her."

"That isn’t much of a threat since it is something I happen to enjoy a little bit of choking," Lilith replied, allowing Amelia to pull her away. She knew there would be some anger about her secretly feeding Amelia instead of telling them what she was doing, but she did not want to ruin them finding out on their own. "You need to be careful since you are-"

"Do not say a word when there are so many people listening around here. Keep quiet until I find a room for us to speak. I want you to be honest with me then," Amelia said.

Lilith didn’t see why Amelia or Killian would think that she was lying. It was not her fault that Killian did not notice it as soon as she did. She liked to believe that women were just better than men when it came to knowing.

Amelia entered a small room meant for guests and locked the door so no one could disrupt them.

"Be honest with me, Lilith. I will try not to get angry with you if it is a joke. Am I really pregnant or was this some sick game because you were bored?" Amelia questioned, playing with her fingers as she awaited Lilith’s answer.

Lilith touched her chest as Amelia’s words reminded her that she had a heart. There was a terrible feeling that she had not felt in years. "It hurts me that you think I was playing a game on you. I like you, Amelia. I would not be so cruel to toy with you about a child. I would kill whoever did it to me. I might not have special talents like our husbands, but nonetheless, I am able to sense something better than others."

"Before I died, I used to kill for a living so I paid close attention to the people around me. I happen to really like you so I watch you more than others and I noticed it right before you left to go to think about your grandmother and mother. I do sense that it is not only you and I first worried about your soul since you are still human. I didn’t want to tell you since Killian would notice soon. I thought I was being a good friend by not ruining your surprise. I’m sorry," Lilith apologised.

Amelia didn’t get the feeling that Lilith was lying now. "You were trying to help me and I understand that, but did you really need to be so weird and feed me a cookie with a soul? I wouldn’t have been angry if you had told me. I rather someone that I am close to tell me than a random demon. I am sorry for not trusting you, but with Killian not sensing anything-"

"He hasn’t yet?!" Lilith exclaimed, liking this since it made her look better than him. "He is off to a terrible start as a father. Can’t even notice his child."
