The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 301

Chapter 301: Chapter 301

"Beg forgiveness for your actions," Anne advised Margaret as she walked toward the throne room doors to leave for a moment. "It will not save you in the underworld, but it will allow you to look back on the things you have done in the past and perhaps realise where you went wrong."

Margaret stood still, ignoring the calls of the men of the court as they tried to stop Amelia from leaving. She would not bed Amelia to save her. She would never beg anyone else to save her. There was nothing about what she did that she regretted even for a second. She followed what her family had started years ago. She should have told Amelia of her role in all of this sooner to have her on this side.

Margaret didn’t like that she had failed her father and other relatives, but there was something she liked about the castle she had always hated would soon crumble. In this lost battle, she only had herself to blame since she had underestimated Killian and did not kill him like she was supposed to. Whatever these witches had planned for her it would make her not have to witness demons taking over the castle.

"You heard the queen. We should do this quietly so we do not have to go through tired conversations again and again," Cordelia said as she walked to Margaret. The old woman had to be placed with the others so they could work the spell to change them all into animals.

"Priests do not go down without a fight," Margaret muttered, turning to the witch to stab her with a pin she had made of holy water. Most of the things she wore were made of holy water. She made sure of it today since she would have Killian around her.

"You!" Cordelia exclaimed, raising her hand to stop Margaret from attacking her. She caught Margaret’s hands and they struggled against each other.

"Mother!" Anne yelled, leaving Amelia’s side to help her mother before she could be touched by whatever Margaret had in her hand.

They couldn’t take any risk for something made by the priests touching any of the three witches. Witches spells did not work on them other than destroying their bodies because of the magic used. That means that if Cordelia were to die now, no spell could bring her back.

"Mother! Do it!" Anne yelled to Ramona as she grabbed Margaret’s hand to help Cordelia.

In the midst of Margaret and Cordelia struggling to overpower each other, Anne tried to take the pin out of Margaret’s hands. She did not know what the pin would do to her if it so much as pricked her, but she would rather it harmed her than her mother.

Amelia was frozen where she stood. To see her mother and grandmother going against each other was something out of this world even though she knew of what happened to her mother. She shook her head to stop thinking of the past when the three of them were happy. This was the reality before her very eyes that she had to accept.

Before Amelia could reach the trio to help with breaking them up, she heard a weird language being spoken, but not from Ramona. It was Sybil who started to cast a spell.

"Get away from there, mother!" Amelia yelled, running to where they stood to get her mother.

In the blink of an eye, Anne and Cordelia fell to the floor as Margaret disappeared and all that was left was the dress she wore, the pin, her shoes, and jewellery.

Amelia stooped down beside her mother to inspect her for any bruises or changes to her body because of the spell Sybil made. "Thank goodness," she sighed in relief since her mother appeared to be fine. "What happened to her?" She asked, referring to Margaret. Her grandmother was nowhere to be found.

Anne searched around the dress Margaret wore until she found her. "Here," Anne said, taking out a small toad. "This is here."

"What the hell, Sybil! We wanted a frog," Ramona said, frustrated that she did not gain one more frog. She would have to make one out of the men from the court who were running around, trying to escape, but there were demons at all the exits to block them.

Until Margaret disappeared, the men in the court were just shouting their complaints about being kept in the castle. Though demons were present, they did not believe the witches could actually turn them into animals until they saw Margaret disappear.

Sybil scratched her head, puzzled by why there was a toad instead of a frog. "I said the right spell. I have never gotten it wrong unless I pronounced a word wrong."

"You did not. Sybil chanted the spell right. Something about the old woman turned her into a toad. I am going to have fun boiling her alive in a potion for trying to kill me," Cordelia said, snatching Margaret out of Anne’s hands.

She was so furious that she considered just boiling Margaret in a pot of hot water until there was nothing left of her.

"Mother. Please," Anne pleaded with them to stop talking about killing Margaret in front of Amelia. It was easy for them to want to kill Margaret, but Amelia needed time to get used to what she knew now about her grandmother. There was still a point in Amelia’s life when Margaret took care of her. "Come with me, Amelia."

Anne stood up, holding Amelia’s hand to take her outside.

Amelia could not get used to the sight of her grandmother now being a toad. It was not so long ago that Margaret stood before her and looked normal.

"After everything she did, I froze," she mumbled.

"Because you are still hanging on to the good memories you had with her. You are not used to this side of Margaret. The one that is controlling and thinks we must all obey the priests. You do not need to get used to it so soon because of what happened to me. You should process this at your own pace," Anne said.

"That was wonderful," Lilith said, clapping her hands. "I have never seen anyone turn into a toad before. And here I thought the day couldn’t get any better. You smell of the land of the dead," she said to Anne. "My husband will not be pleased."

"Mother, this is the queen of the underworld, Lilith. She was once human like us. Lilith, this is my mother, Anne," Amelia introduced the two. "We are going to start doing the judgements now-"

"Actually," Anne interjected. "Why don’t you let the queen take over and you go to your room to rest Amelia? You are starting to look pale."

"How can I leave Lilith to do this when I have said from the beginning that I will be doing it? I have a role to play on this day and I cannot rest when everyone is playing their part. It would not be fair and I still have to prove myself," Amelia answered, not wanting to leave when they were just getting started.

"Why?" Lilith asked, folding her arms. "You make a good queen to me and regardless of if you do not convince anyone that you are a good fit, your husband would not make you give up the throne. You stopped demons from going on a feeding frenzy. You care for your people enough to ask Lucifer to be a part of today. Not many humans have spoken to my husband and demanded something like you have."

"You will not be able to carry out all the plans you have in one day, Amelia. Your head does not seem to be in a good place right now dealing with my return and your grandmother. If you are looking to judge anyone, your mind cannot be distracted so you do not end up making a wrong decision you might regret. Part of being a good ruler is listening to those around you and trusting that they can take care of what you need in your absence. I will help the queen while you are away," Anne said.

"I won’t punish anyone without your permission. I can send them to the dungeon to wait until you have cleared your mind. And I am certain if you shed a few tears, a special demon you have been missing will show up before you. It is only for a few hours and then you can return. Trust us," Lilith said, placing her hand on Amelia’s right shoulder to reassure her it would be alright.

Amelia did not want to leave but they were right that there was so much on her mind. She knew that she could trust them to take care of the castle while she stepped away. She didn’t know how but she would love to call upon Killian to speak to him.

She was overwhelmed by seeing her mother again and her grandmother being turned into a toad. She could push those thoughts to the side and carry on with the judgment, but Amelia wanted to show her mother and Lilith that she trusted them so she agreed. "I will leave the judgment to you and Lilith for a moment," she answered.
