Chapter 279
Chapter 279: Chapter 279
Amelia noticed how Margaret looked dissatisfied with her holding Killian’s hand as they walked. She thought she would not have found anyone in a castle who disapproved of her marriage to Killian more than Agramon, but she was wrong.
If not for Agramon wanting her gone and Margaret wanting Killian dead, she would have introduced the two of them so they could bond.
"Grandmother," Amelia greeted, refusing to curtsy since she was feeling stubborn and she was now a queen. They should be bowing to her. "We were to meet after breakfast. Has the temple lost its manners by not keeping its promises and allowing us to eat first? What is so important that you have called us here already?"
"It won’t be long. You will be sitting at the table eating in no time. Since Killian has to leave later, we decided to do this now. Do you want to stay out here or come inside?" Margaret asked, stepping to the side to show Amelia and Killian the path to the entrance of the temple.
She filled the temple’s steps and the inside with holy water so Killian could be affected by it. For him to be weakened and burned by it.
Amelia didn’t know what to decide, and as if reading her mind, Killian placed a grape by her lips for her to eat. She welcomed it and let him answer.
"We do not need too many eyes watching us. We should go inside," said Killian. He placed the last grape in his mouth so he could savor the taste. A nice start to the meal he was about to have.
Margaret was impressed that Killian would willingly step into the temple, while Amelia seemed like the one wary of entering
"Grandmother," Amelia said before she and Killian made a move. "If you attack us, this will be the end for me and you."
"You misunderstand me, child. I am not going to attack you. I want to protect you," Margaret answered. From the start, she was doing what was best for Amelia and the kingdom. Amelia was too blinded by what she thought was love to notice which side she needed to be on.
"If you attack Killian," Amelia clarified. She knew it was not her they were after.
Margaret kept her answer to herself as she turned to go inside to start what she planned. "Come inside so we can deal with this matter privately," she said.
Only two of the eight priests followed Margaret inside, while the others waited for Amelia and Killian to go in first in case they would try to leave.
"Stay out here," Killian said to Edith and the others behind him. He could handle whatever was concocted in the temple, but the same could not be said for those who were not of the same rank as him. He didn’t even want to let Amelia join him, but he knew Margaret had no intention of harming Amelia, and he could never convince Amelia to stay behind.
Amelia continued to hold Killian’s hand as they entered the temple.
The priests finally moved to walk behind them and closed the doors on Edith, who was not pleased with what was happening.
There were numerous lit candles in the temple to offer light.
Killian disliked the feeling of the temple and what they did here by praying to Gods who never answered them. Soon they would learn that the Gods had abandoned them since they had grown bored of humans and their ways.
There was a burning feeling on his skin, which let him know there was holy water present, but the feeling was nothing compared to the heat of the underworld. They would only end up peeling his skin and revealing what he really looked like. He wished to avoid that since it was an appearance he planned to keep from his wife forever.
"What now?" Amelia asked, wanting to get whatever this was over with now.
Margaret held out her right hand for Amelia to come to her. "Come over here, child."
Amelia frowned, confused as to why her grandmother thought she would just leave Killian’s side and give them the opportunity to attack him. Instead of going to Margaret, Amelia moved to stand in front of Killian. "Had I made myself more clear now? I am not leaving his side. Not only have you angered me with this nonsense, you have stopped me from eating."
Margaret disliked Amelia’s attitude now, but it could be fixed once the man behind her was taken care of. Amelia had no one but her so she would come crawling back. "You are special, child. It is thanks to you that the priests are able to stand in the presence of a great demon like this. Only I have stood before Killian and lived, but I did not have the power to attack him then."
"The priests have never lost sight of our goal over the years. We have just been patiently waiting for the right moment. Your grandfather would have been so happy to know what you are-"
"You know nothing about who I am. It is not only that I can bring you the peace you want. I can cause a lot of pain. I am not some savior. I am simply someone the Gods picked to have some fun with, and once I am of no use, they will move on to another. You’ve made plans for me all for nothing," said Amelia, still not seeing herself as of any use to the priests.
The temple had foolishly pushed her into Killian’s arms and now they were upset that she was siding with him.
Margaret didn’t care for the lies Amelia had to have heard from Killian. She believed the tales passed down from her father and those before her. "When this is over and you are cleansed, I will let you read the truth. Now," Margaret said, giving the others the order to do as they planned.
Killian pulled Amelia against him as he sensed something above them. Before he could move, water poured down onto him and Amelia from large barrels Margaret had set up to weaken Killian and cleanse Amelia.
The priests present took out their weapons laced with holy water to attack Killian, who should now be weakened.
Before dealing with the pests surrounding them, Killian looked down at Amelia, who was soaked. Her pretty appearance was now ruined because of her grandmother. "Are you alright?" He asked.
Amelia did not hear Killian’s words as she stared at the palms of her hands, which were quickly turning red and had a stinging feeling that quickly became unbearable.
