The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 278
Chapter 278: Chapter 278
"Stay close to Edith. You might be targeted to get to me. Your parents should be taken care of by now, right?" Amelia asked Gina, who was helping her get dressed for breakfast.
During the time Gina was away from Amelia, she was meant to get her family close to the castle so that when hell would literally break loose, they would be somewhere safe, and not run around panicking with everyone else.
"There are. One of the northerners escorted them to somewhere safe. I will stay by your side, so I will not cause you any trouble. If you do not know it already, a group of men came into the castle clad in armor. I didn’t see where they went, but I saw men from the court running around," said Gina.
Amelia looked at Killian, who once again sat in a chair, watching her get ready. "Did they look like men you have seen in the castle before? Castle guards?"
"No," Gina said, shaking her head. "They looked like a bunch of men from the town. Those groups who do bad jobs if you pay them enough. A few of them had scars on their faces. I did not want to stay in their path for long, so I came straight here."
"If they are going to attack us, why not use the castle guards when there are so many?" Amelia muttered.
Killian picked up another of the fresh grapes Gina brought in for them to snack on while Amelia got dressed. The castle had poor taste in many areas, but their fruit was always good. They could bring in anyone they liked. Fraser and those who followed him were still going to die.
It wouldn’t be long before the demon he placed on Cedric would make him lose his mind and die. Unless he was already dead? Killian had not seen Cedric or heard of him causing trouble.
"I am finished," Gina said, taking a step back to look over Amelia’s appearance. The blue and gold dress she picked out for this big day was better than she imagined. "You look beautiful. Should I tie up your hair?"
"No. I prefer it like this," Amelia replied, touching the long strands of her hair that fell over her shoulder. Instead of wearing her crown, she wore a golden chain in her hair that would be replaced by the Blackwell crown she planned to take from Fraser’s head later.
A knock at the door interrupted the moment. The door opened, revealing Edith, who looked pissed.
"My queen. King Killian," Edith greeted the pair. "There are priests here to escort you to the temple."
Amelia frowned. The agreement was that she would go to the temple with Killian after breakfast. "We have not eaten. They should try to hide that they are in a rush to do something to us," Amelia said, angered by her grandmother, who had to be the one pushing them to the temple so fast.
Killian picked up a handful of grapes and stood up as the awaited moment was finally here. "We must not keep them waiting when they are so eager to have us. Here," he said, offering Amelia a grape for her to eat. "It is their mistake for not letting you eat before coming to get you. You are not the best person to be around when you are hungry."
Amelia enjoyed the sweetness of the grape. It made her more hungry, but since they weren’t going to be given a break to eat something, the grapes were better than nothing. "Bring the bowl. I cannot get through the day without eating something. There should be a rule that no arguments should start until everyone has eaten."
Killian fed Amelia another grape to help calm the monster that was starting to awaken inside of her.
Gina made herself useful by getting the bowl of grapes to carry. She didn’t see how this would fill Amelia since Killian had eaten most of the grapes already. They needed to get more fruit, but she could not leave Amelia’s side. Hopefully, she would see another maid to inform them to bring Amelia something to eat.
Amelia took a deep breath as she walked to the door with Killian. She wanted this visit to the temple to be over as fast as possible so they could focus on the more important things. Like the men Gina saw in the castle.
The moment Amelia stepped out of her room, she faced men dressed in robes to show that they came from the temple. Amelia had been in the temple many times, but she had never seen the two men standing before her. With her grandmother being the new head priest and the old priests not opening the temple the last time Killian was here, there had to be a switch with the priests.
Amelia looked at the mark on their foreheads, which was made to look like a cross. "Why did you draw that on your forehead?"
"To protect their souls from evil," Killian answered in place of the priest. "Which is funny to me since the eyes are what we use to change someone. Step aside," Killian ordered. He had no interest in their methods, which would not keep them safe. He wanted to see Margaret.
"It is the new way your grandmother instructed the priests to dress. Please follow us," one of the men said.
Amelia hesitated at first, but with Killian practically wanting to skip to the temple to have his fun, she followed behind the two priests. ’They must be convinced that Killian would try to leave,’ she thought.
As they walked to the temple, Amelia kept looking around their surroundings in case there would be an attack. She doubted Fraser and her grandmother were working together, but there was a high chance of them both trying to attack Killian. They both wanted him dead for different reasons.
Killian kept feeding Amelia the grapes as they walked to the temple. As if this moment were written in a book, Margaret awaited them dressed in a robe like the true villain she was when they finally reached the temple.
