The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 273
Chapter 273: Chapter 273
Amelia didn’t feel less worried after Killian said nothing would happen to him. He knew what could and couldn’t kill him, but she still had to worry about him. Amelia wasn’t in the mood to attend dinner now, but she was currently walking to the dining hall with Killian by her side because she had already said she would be attending.
"All of you should stay out here," Amelia said to Edith and the others who were here to guard them.
The dining hall rarely had guards and was mostly filled with maids. If anything were to happen, they were not far away and Killian was right by her side.
Amelia squeezed Killian’s hand she was holding as they entered the dining hall. Fraser, Margaret, and Beth were already seated. The fact that Cedric nor men from the court were present was a good sign that Amelia could tolerate what would be said at dinner.
Fraser found Amelia to be doing too much by dressing as if she was attending a ball when they were just having dinner. Was she trying to make up for her poor appearance earlier? He almost wanted to laugh at the fact she was trying to compete with him and failing miserably.
He effortlessly looked like a king when he walked and spoke while Amelia looked like a little girl playing pretend. Fraser was enjoying that she wanted to try to show off, but there was something that bothered him.
Fraser disliked seeing Amelia holding Killian’s hand as if announcing that their marriage was working and they were happily in love. He had hoped that a man like Killian would ruin her and have her begging to come back home.
There were a few men who always had an interest in her that would take her to be their wife should she return home. Many would want to see what the woman who was once married to Killian Bune was like.
Fraser became irritated as he thought of his mother’s words which he thought were wrong in the past. Her saying that Killian loved Amelia already and should he try to do anything to Amelia, Killian would kill him. Why couldn’t Killian just be the animal that Fraser thought he was and ravish Amelia instead of falling for her?
Was Amelia some sort of witch to have the king of the north in the palm of her hands? It would be a nice rumor to spread around. That the former princess had started to dabble in the practices of witches and that was why the kingdom had fallen. Anything to ruin her.
’Then again,’ Fraser thought as he looked at Killian helping Amelia to her seat. ’I will kill her husband tomorrow. They made a mistake returning to my castle.’
Fraser sent word to his followers, the court, and his grandfather about taking this moment to kill Killian so the north would be without their king and the Blackwells would not be laughed at by other kingdoms. They would take over the north.
They all agreed with his plans and first thing tomorrow morning, they would strike.
Fraser wanted them to make the move tonight when Killian and Amelia would be sound asleep in their bed, completely unaware of what was coming, but there were special men the castle called upon to help take down Killian. If he could, Fraser would love to be the one to stab Killian in the heart.
"Why is everyone so silent? Did our arrival ruin dinner?" Amelia asked after she sat down. Already, she felt the old tension that would be at this very table. "Good to see that dinner is still so tense. I worried that there would be so many changes that I would have to get used to. There is one that is hard to adjust to," she said, looking at Fraser, who sat in her father’s chair. That was something she could never get used to seeing.
"We are happy to see you here at dinner with us, cousin. The people of this kingdom will be happy to hear that their princess is back," said Fraser.
"Some will be genuinely happy to see that I am back safe and sound, while others will want to question me about the claims that I killed my father or that I was working with Killian to help bring down this castle. It is good to be here to find out what fool has been trying to ruin me. I was not here, and yet, I was on someone’s mind to have them try to put the people against me. How wonderful," Amelia smiled.
It was a special skill to be able to bother someone so much when she was far away.
"I was enjoying my new life as wife and queen, but still managed to bother-"
"This is dinner," Beth spoke up to stop Amelia from talking about unnecessary things now. Why pick a fight before they could be served food? "The castle will find those who spread such rumors and punish them."
Killian picked up a grape from the bowl of fruits in front of him and Amelia. "You will only end up protecting the fool that is in this room. I suggest you get to them before I do. I do not tolerate disrespect to my wife."
Beth grabbed a handful of her dress under the table. It wasn’t easy for her to talk Killian out of this, and Fraser would be of no help to her. Killian was too intimidating for her to speak with him, let alone look him in the eye. This was the one time she would enjoy having Cedric present.
"I hope you aren’t suggesting that one of us is the person behind what is said about my cousin these days," Fraser nervously laughed since it was his doing. "Regardless of how this family looks in your eyes, we care for each other. I would never spread lies about Amelia since when she looks bad, we all look bad."
Amelia didn’t believe that it wasn’t Fraser.
"Family should stick together," Margaret said, looking at Amelia, who sat right in front of her. She was not pleased that Amelia was choosing to side with a demon when there was a chance for Amelia to be free of Killian and sit on the Blackwell throne she had always wanted. "Some seem to forget where their loyalty should lie."
Amelia resisted the urge to roll her eyes. She was in need of something to drink to help calm her. Why would Margaret bring this up now before Fraser and Beth, who would enjoy seeing them at odds?
Amelia bit her lip as a thought of how to get past what Margaret was doing came to mind, but it was a pain for her to do. "Fraser, how is life as king?" She asked.
Knowing how much Fraser would love to talk about being king and not allowing anyone to get a word in, Amelia used it to put an end to whatever Margaret intended to talk about now.
"Well, I-"
"The two of you seemed to have gotten close quickly," Margaret spoke over Fraser. She was not finished yet. And Amelia could not stop her "You might not have heard yet, but I am now the head priest. I want to invite you and Killian inside the temple for a prayer. You must not turn down the temple’s invitation."
