The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 271

Chapter 271: Chapter 271

"You cannot fool me, child. You only wish to see what we are planning. I am afraid that I cannot bring you to meet with the others-"

"Yet you would have all these plans made for me? Whatever you are planning, leave me out of it. I am not going to get involved with hunting demons. It was your mistake to ask me to marry one then send me off to live amongst them. I do not hate demons like you want me to. I went to the north and fell in love with one. If you see me as tainted then so be it," said Amelia.

Amelia wasn’t aware of her bloodline with these priests before Killian came down from the mountain and she would be happy to go back to not knowing about it.

If these priests had any sense, they would have told her about this world of demons and how they needed to be killed before letting her marry Killian. Then this prophecy they spoke of would have made sense since she was able to make Killian trust her and she spent enough time alone to kill him with holy water or their holy weapons.

Amelia now wondered if it was a rash decision to get her to marry Killian because the priest did not have enough weapons to fight against demons at the time.

Since Killian had come down to fight, they did not have what they needed to kill him yet, but with a marriage to her who they believed had some secret way to kill him and then there was the fact she would return to this castle, they knew another moment would come for Killian to die.

Amelia had also not forgotten how the priests in the temple hid when the castle was swarmed with demons. They were not ready for a fight against demons then.

Amelia had to warn Killian but knowing him and the fact he had the mirror to spy on others, he might be aware that something was happening. Killian only needed to be kept safe until the gates would open tomorrow and he would leave this castle.

Margaret’s plans meant that Amelia would have to fight against the priest tomorrow since they would not listen to her claims that she would not let demons hurt the innocent.

Amelia stepped away from Margaret and unknowingly stepped out of the space where the spell could no longer stop their words from being heard. "I am going to get dressed, meet with Killian, and then come down to dinner like old times. I love you, grandmother, but I have not cared for someone like this for a long time after I lost my mother. If you harm him, you will become my enemy."

"Excuse me," Amelia curtsied.

For the longest time, she heard others say that Margaret was trouble, but to Amelia, Margaret was always her sweet grandmother she could lean on. There were too many things Amelia felt she missed concerning Margaret. How could she have missed that Margaret’s words about Killian being a good man to marry were all fake?

Amelia walked away from Margaret to go to her room or the room she had sent Killian to. She prepared herself to be in a fight against Fraser, but it was Margaret with whom she was currently at odds.

Edith walked ahead of the other guards to check on Amelia. The moment she saw Amelia’s lips moving but nothing could be heard, she knew a spell was being used, but not by Amelia. She didn’t like the old woman, but since it was Amelia’s grandmother, she had not interrupted the conversation, though Amelia looked angry as they spoke.

"Queen Amelia," Edith addressed Amelia since they were no longer in the north, where Amelia would sometimes allow her to not use the title. "Are you alright?" She asked, placing her hand on Amelia’s shoulder.

Amelia stopped walking. "Honestly, I don’t know what I feel besides being confused. I don’t know what is happening around me. Can you sense where Killian is? Is he near?"

"He is," Edith answered as she felt Killian’s powerful presence close by She had a feeling that Killian was keeping an eye on Amelia because he did not trust leaving her alone with her grandmother. After what Edith witnessed, he had every reason to be cautious.

Edith no longer cared about the old woman being Amelia’s grandmother. If she made Amelia upset again for whatever reason, she could step in.

"Good. We will go to my room, and then one of you should bring him to me. I have a feeling that he already knows I want him. We need to move quickly," Amelia said since they would be late for dinner if she didn’t get ready in time.

Amelia walked the familiar halls she could never forget. It felt like yesterday that she was just leaving her bedroom to hear her father announce that Annabelle was carrying his child. Yet so much time had passed already. She was married and looking to lead demons. If she could go back in time and tell her former self that, they would think she became crazy in the future.

Amelia relaxed when she saw her bedroom door come into view. She envisioned Cyrus standing out front of her door to guard her from any unwanted visitors. She wondered how his attempt to find Jahi and return to the underworld was going. Would the gates opening stop his plans to keep Jahi in the underworld?

"Amelia!"

Amelia smiled when she heard the frantic cries of Gina running to catch up with her. It reminded her of the days when she would suddenly be needed in the castle, and Gina would be all over the place trying to get her ready in time.

Gina clamped her hand over her mouth after realising her mistake. "I mean Queen Amelia."

"It is fine, Gina. There is no one around for you to worry about, and when I step into my bedroom, I like to leave all the stress of being a royal on the outside. What is it, or are you just rushing to catch up with us?" Amelia asked.

"No! I found something out. Did you know there was a big mess about poisoning Fraser, and now your grandmother is the head priest for the temple? The crown cannot touch her. Give me a moment to breathe," Gina said, holding over to catch her breath.

Killian had told her it wasn’t necessary for her to show him around, and on her way back to find Amelia, she bumped into maids she knew. They were more than happy to be told stories about the north, but first, they told her about Fraser and Margaret. Life in the castle was tense now more than ever since there was an obvious battle between the former queen and the current king.

Gina held up her hand since there was more to be told. "I heard that the temple keeps saying there is an evil spirit amongst the young ladies the king has to pick to be his queen. The families of those young girls are not pleased, but there is nothing they can do against the temple’s words."

"How did you find out all of that in so little time?" Edith asked, impressed by Gina.

"It is a skill all of the castle maids have to pass news to each other quickly before someone catches us. There might be more news I can find out if I go to the other maids, but I came to you first to see what you want me to do," Gina said, standing up straight now that she had caught her breath.

"It is all interesting news. Grandmother isn’t hiding her intentions of not letting the throne have a queen that is not to her liking. She has been doing her best to save it for me. Meet with as many maids as you can to find out what else has happened in my absence," Amelia ordered Gina.

Killian could use his demons to get information, but she also had a great way of finding out news or secrets.
