The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 270
Chapter 270: Chapter 270
Amelia didn’t see the need for secrecy. She was the queen of the demons here in the castle. Edith was here with them and she was loyal enough not to repeat what she heard Margaret say to Killian. Amelia thought it was those from the Blackwell castle who she had to be secretive with.
"Help me to understand. The priests dislike demons, but not witches, who would use people like us for spells if needed?" Amelia asked. She now realised how skilled Margaret was for her to not even see when whatever the spell was placed on had come out since Killian could hear them a moment ago.
How was whatever the spell was on working now, but not when they were speaking to Killian?
"They dealt with witches just as they did with demons. We have a witch in our hold to make us what we want and then there was the witch your father snuck off to see to make sure his child would be a boy. That was wasted," Margaret said since Annabelle was now without a child. She also had no use for that woman now that Amelia was back earlier than she planned.
Margaret intended to make the most of Amelia being here. The throne would have a Blackwell sitting on it as it always should have been. She would have Amelia cleansed and formally placed on the throne just as Amelia had always dreamed.
"You are confusing me, grandmother. Was it not you who pushed me to be with Killian? Have you forgotten that it was not my plan to marry him in the beginning, but you pushed the idea of it when you knew this whole time that he was a demon? Now it is like you want me to suddenly cut ties with him and forget about my marriage," said Amelia.
She could not do it if that was what Margaret expected. She did not come to love Killian this much just to let him go for the Blackwell throne. With their plans, Amelia would have both the Blackwell throne and Killian. There was no other way she wanted it now. Her plans had long changed to include Killian and their future children.
"What if I were to be carrying his child?" Amelia asked, afraid of the answer, but she had to know.
Margaret looked at the guards following Amelia who she knew to be demons and then she brought her attention back to Amelia. "You cannot carry the child of a demon-"
"Grandmother, do you even know what you want? Why have me marry him only to turn around and say that I could not have his child? What did you think was going to happen on the night of our wedding? Even before then, you saw that Killian cared for me and you let me leave to the north. Was it your intention to one day snatch me away from him now that there is no war and get rid of any child I might have?" Amelia asked, taking a step back as her anger consumed her.
"There is a prophecy about children selected by the Gods. They were referred to as golden children. My family believes that those children were our way to get rid of demons. Your destiny told us that you needed to go with Killian. To do what, I do not know. Your union helped save the people here and gave me time to start making weapons again. You were safe away from the scheming men here, but now it is time for you to sit on the Blackwell throne," said Margaret.
Even with this story, Amelia did not believe that Margaret understood her own plans. Margaret acted and expressed that she would live well with Killian in the north and be a good queen. Margaret was a better liar than Amelia thought or there was someone Amelia did not know of who was filling Margaret’s head with stories and plans.
Demons believed that golden children would bring peace or chaos to the world. It seemed her grandmother had only heard one side of bringing peace. By sending her off to marry Killian, Margaret might have placed Amelia on the path to bringing chaos.
’There will be chaos when the gates open,’ Amelia thought. There would be panic, confusion, loss, and more. Amelia was trying to shield the Blackwell kingdom from it so maybe that was the peaceful side of the story. Amelia didn’t see how leaving Killian would get rid of demons like Margaret said.
It was possible that a priest found out about golden children and formed their own prophecy about something they did not know much about.
"There is nothing special about me, grandmother. There is nothing special I can do to get rid of demons and if there was, I would not help you when my husband and people are-"
"Your people are here in the Blackwell kingdom. Demons are not your people. There is the blood of priests running through you," Margaret said, taking hold of Amelia’s hands. "My family and I have been hunting their kind for generations. It took everything in me not to kill Killian when I first met him because I knew there was something bigger in the future that would help get rid of him."
"Thanks to your father going to a witch to find out what your future would be like, I found out about you being a golden child. He had no idea how special that made you. He just hated that you were given that title-"
"Grandmother," Amelia said, pulling her hand away. "You and the priests have no idea what you are doing and no idea what you want. If it is still your goal to kill demons, why was I sent to the north? Or was I just a test for you to see what would come out of the stories you heard? From the beginning, this was more about saving the Blackwell kingdom. You were looking to use me for your plans."
Amelia pinched the bridge of her nose. "I don’t know who told you these ridiculous stories and what honestly convinced you to think that I would be the one to help you get rid of demons, but I am not going to do anything that hurts my husband. I thought you wanted me to marry Killian solely to save our people since he was able to get onto our land so easily."
"I care for you, Amelia. More than you being a special child. You are my true grandchild. A pure Blackwell child who came from a queen and king. You are a strong girl. You always have been. I knew that you would return to me after I sent you to the north-"
"I don’t understand. It wasn’t that long ago that you were pushing me into Killian’s arms, and now you are trying to pull me away from him," Amelia said, still stuck on how her grandmother had switched since then. Margaret looked happy at the wedding when she wasn’t warning Killian to treat her well.
Amelia didn’t understand why her grandmother would meet with Killian behind her grandfather’s and father’s backs and not kill him during those meetings when she still wanted to kill demons. Why pretend and get her granddaughter involved?
Amelia wanted no part in hunting demons. She carried the blood of the priests from her father’s side of the family, but what they did had nothing to do with her. She didn’t care to wipe out demons. She wanted to make them able to coexist with humans when the gates would open and the secrets of the world would be known.
’There has to be someone filling her head with nonsense,’ Amelia thought, remembering the mirror showing Margaret sitting at a table with priests. The only way she could learn more about this prophecy for herself or whatever stories the priest had would be to play along.
"I do not know much about the priests. Show me that side of our family first, and then I will consider what you want," said Amelia.
Amelia thought of what might have happened in the past if Margaret had known that her mother was raised by witches. What would Margaret do if she learned that her mother had cheated death and was alive, but not back to normal yet?
