The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 245
Chapter 245: Chapter 245
This castle belonged to Margaret far before it ever belonged to Fraser. Many men and even her husband had once tried to get her out of it. Margaret would never allow a boy like Fraser to chase her out of it with his mother. Margaret walked out of the castle on her own terms. She could never be forced out of it. It was humorous for her to see how certain they were that they had gotten rid of her.
Margaret had created connections all throughout the castle for years. The very guards that Fraser commanded listened to her because of her secret allies. Fraser had much to learn before going up against her.
"These fools," Margaret shook her head. "They will never learn."
"There was a darkness looming around Cedric Adams," said Luke, Margaret’s guard. "Something has attached itself to him."
Luke shared a lineage to the priest who hunted demons in the past and was blessed by a God to be able to see what no others could. He could not make out much of what was hidden, but he could see traces of a demon.
"Oh," Margaret smiled, intrigued by this. "Could you make out what it was? Is it one aiding him or feeding on him?"
"Seeing that he had a headache, it is feeding on him. It doesn’t seem like the normal ones. Maybe someone sent it directly to him. Wouldn’t it have been better for it to feed on the new King?" Luke asked.
"Why would anyone want to feed on Fraser to be met with a horrid taste? Besides, if you get rid of Cedric, Fraser loses a big ally. I wonder if it is his doing," Margaret said, referring to Killian.
Luke looked over his shoulder to a corner without light. "He left behind a small group of demons. He intends to return to this castle. It cannot be for something good. Do you think Amelia is safe with him? Do you trust him?"
"I hardly trust anyone. For now, it seems like Amelia is happy and getting along with him. I cannot worry about her when I have pushed her to be with him," Margaret replied.
Luke didn’t understand why Margaret would push for Amelia to marry a demon. Killian of all demons. It was like pushing Amelia into the arms of the devil. He read the entries their ancestors made about the demons right under the devil. Killian was one of those demons.
"Amelia has always been a special child in my eyes. Her father confirmed it when he went to a witch. I believe Amelia is destined for great things. I was told a great future awaited her beside a demon," Margaret revealed. "That and the fact a marriage to Killian was needed at that time. Our weapons were not ready then."
"You went to a witch?" Luke asked, surprised by this. They weren’t the type to go to those creatures. "You know you cannot always believe their words."
’I am aware. You know, it is said that those golden children selected by the Gods would either bring the world peace or chaos. My family believed it was the Gods way of giving us a person with the power to get rid of evil. That we could use those children to send demons back down to the world they belong. My father would be overjoyed to know that my granddaughter became one," Margaret said.
"I believe Amelia is the one who shall bring peace to this world. Should Killian try to come down the mountain and harm the people here, we will be ready this time," Margaret said, looking out the windows as she walked the halls. "I will finish what the family started should he attack us. The weapons are almost finished."
"That means we would have to kill Killian since he is the one who commands the demons in the mountain. What if Amelia loves him to the point she does not want you to harm him? She might get caught up in the fight and be hurt," Luke replied, worried for Amelia. He was sticking to his belief that she should have never been married off to a demon.
As a golden child, Amelia was a nice treat for a demon to eat. If Killian were to notice what Amelia was, he might try to consume her soul. Demons did believe that eating the children picked by Gods would make them powerful. It was never confirmed if this was true. What demons would do was try to steal those children away and ask the Gods for something in exchange for the return of those children.
"Amelia knows that I want what’s best for her. She will always pick me over anyone else. Should Killian try to attack the people here, whatever love Amelia feels for him will vanish. I don’t intend for her to stay in the north long. Amelia has been meant to sit on the Blackwell throne. She will be back soon to replace Fraser," Margaret answered.
Luke couldn’t see what Margaret was planning. She was building weapons to kill demons in the event there was a war as they were old scriptures passed down about a day the world would be flooded with demons, but at the same time, she sent Amelia to be with a demon under the assumption that Amelia had a good future beside a demon.
Luke could only see Amelia’s marriage as a good thing if it would mean that Amelia had become close enough to Killian to be the one to kill him in the future. No one on their side was ever able to get close to Killian like Amelia was. Perhaps this is what her destiny was for. A sacrifice of her mind and body to kill Killian in the future.
The priest would praise her for killing such a demon, but then Amelia would have to spend days, even weeks, cleansing her body from all of Killian’s touch and then take herbs to ensure she would never bear his child. If a child was in fact born, it would be killed right after.
In the old days, it was said children created by a demon who slept with a human, whether it be with love or the demon who had taken advantage of the human, were killed and their bodies tossed into a fire. It was a ritual not many could stomach, but the priest was hellbent on not letting demons corrupt humans and grow their numbers. Sacrifices were needed.
"You always said anyone’s loyalty can change. What if she were to ever learn about her mother? I have not been able to find the books you said her mother left behind. What is in-"
"Do not speak about it," Margaret silenced Luke. She did not wish to hear about what made up story tales Anne left behind for Amelia. "It is already irritating that Beth wants to claim that I had something to do with Anne’s death. I loved Anne from beginning to end. Her only fault was her trying to take Amelia out of the castle and not being truthful about what your eyes saw."
Luke had long informed Margaret that there was something strange about Anne, but he could not see what it was. It was not a demon that he was seeing around Anne. There was something else about Anne, but she was not willing to tell. Margaret realized that Anne was a secretive woman now that she looked back at their past.
Anne was a woman with no family around her and wouldn’t have been a candidate for Queen had Richard not been so obsessed about her. Little was known about Anne’s family long after her death. No one had visited Anne in the castle during her time as Queen and no one had come to mourn her death. It was suspicious from the beginning.
Richard’s obsession with having Anne for himself made him disregard asking questions about her family. Where she had come from. Richard wrote Anne off as being an orphan and it was why she cared to put so much money in the orphanages around the kingdom.
"Anne might have cursed us all and we’ve not realized it. Perhaps she might have ruined us if she was still alive. I loved the woman, but she is better off dead," Margaret confessed. It was something she could never share with Amelia. "Enough about Anne for now. I must deal with the fools here in the temple. When are the new priests coming?"
"At dawn while others will arrive in a few days. The ones blessed with gifts will be coming in a few days. They are traveling from far to aid us. They don’t want to miss the chance to kill demons," Luke answered.
One of the demons Killian left behind and the one Luke had spotted, followed behind the two trying to make out what they were talking about, but there was something messing with his hearing. It was like their moves were moving as they were clearly talking, but nothing was coming out of their mouths. ’A witch’s doing?’ He wondered.
