The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 244

Chapter 244: Chapter 244

"I order you to get out of my castle. Guards!" Fraser yelled.

"Stop all your yelling boy. If they cared about your orders they wouldn’t have let me come inside so easily. You sit on the throne, but you are without power. Beside you," Margaret looked at Beth. "Is one who has no power and makes deals she cannot see through in order to get power. And another who is using his power to turn you into a puppet," she turned to Cedric. Three fools stood before her.

"And what of you?" Fraser asked.

"Me? I never wanted for you to be sitting on the throne so I have no plans for you. All I see is a boy sitting where he does not belong. You view the throne as an accessory when it is so much more. I never had any hope for you and by the looks of it, I never will. I never forgive those who try to go against me," Margaret said, taking her time to walk to the trio.

"You tried to poison-"

"Oh shut up," Margaret snapped at Beth. They knew it was not true and there was no one here for Beth to put on this act of accusing her of something she did not do. "You’re as foolish as your foolish mother."

"Do not," Beth warned in a low voice.

"I cannot call her foolish? What else am I to call a woman who made her way into the king’s bed and died before she could reap the benefits of it? Your mother was a fool who left behind a fool. Fools are increasing in the castle," Margaret said since Fraser was here thanks to Beth. "I will not be leaving the castle and you three will put an end to this nonsense about poison. If I wanted him dead there would be other satisfying measures."

Fraser looked to Cedric to be the one to take care of this. "Do something," he whispered.

Cedric was annoyed by Fraser not being able to deal with Margaret by himself when he was now the King. When would Fraser toughen up and become a man instead of a little boy who hides behind his mother? Cedric started the plan to get rid of Margaret. Fraser was left with the simple task of getting rid of her.

"As of right now, all evidence points to you, Lady Margaret. We are being lenient with you since you are a former Queen. You know you should not be standing so close to the king after what happened today. He has hardly recovered from it," said Cedric.

Margaret chuckled as this was only getting funnier by the second. It was like they had truly convinced themselves that she was the person behind this when it was actually their doing. How dare they act like they were showing her kindness when they were out to ruin her?

Margaret stood still at a good distance away from the three. "You know what is the beauty of being at this age? You fear absolutely nothing. I’ve lived a wonderful life if you exclude all the moments with my former husband. I’ve lived longer than most Queens which I take as an honor. Death does not scare me as I await it daily. What you three have done has angered me instead of making me fear my future as you wanted."

"I’ve been quiet, letting Fraser learn to become a King, but the three of you have angered me more than anyone has angered me in years and now you will feel my anger. Since the three of you will continue to be useless, I have already dealt with what you started. Outside the town is rejoicing that the man who tried to kill their King has been caught," Margaret revealed.

"What?" Beth was confused as to how someone could have been caught when the person behind this was right here along with Margaret. "You framed someone," she realized.

"Oh no, dear. A search was made and poison was found in the home of a castle guard. He confessed to the crime after telling the town why he did it. He felt like the new king always looked down on him. He feared the kingdom would fall with Fraser as King and did what he thought was best. He is pleading for his life at the moment. Oh, the people have stopped rejoicing and sympathize with him as they share his concern. You are not the only ones who can create stories," Margaret said.

"You will get an innocent man killed to clear your name? You are no better-"

"Than you? I’ve never claimed to be a good person. The position of Queen was forced upon me. I do what I want. It just so happens that the guard was in need of help that I could offer him. You might want to address the crowd who has started to question you being King," Margaret said, moving once more to go to the window to look at the north mountain where Amelia was now.

Fraser’s anger increased as he thought about how Margaret had ruined their plans already and flipped this on his position as King. Making the people second guess if he would make a good ruler. He didn’t care for the people’s opinions. He was King whether or not they liked it. If he wasn’t a good King in their eyes, they should leave and go elsewhere.

"Get out of my castle! As King, I am ordering you to leave right now before I have you dragged out! Guards!" Fraser yelled, marching up to Margaret who smiled at him, but stopped when Margaret’s guard blocked him.

"I’m afraid you have no authority over me, Fraser. I’ve done some thinking and decided I wanted to get back into an old family business. Did you know that before becoming Queen, I was on the path to becoming a priest in the temple? I was meant to be carrying on a family tradition that we take very seriously and now I am," Margaret turned to face them.

Cedric became worried as he was starting to put together what Margaret had done. He had not anticipated things going this way. Margaret was proving once more why it was hard to get rid of her when she was younger and still Queen. She was always good at plotting and getting revenge on her enemies. He should have just killed her instead of getting her out of the castle, but she always had her well-trained guards by her side.

Cedric had always thought that Margaret somehow had better guards than a King. Her family was secretive and didn’t like to reveal why a family full of priests needed to have so many well-trained guards when they spoke so often about being peaceful people who disliked fighting. They always preached about conflict not having to end with a fight.

"Out with it already," Beth said, annoyed with Margaret taking forever to get to what she wanted to reveal. It was already bad enough that Fraser was poisoned just for Margaret to be back in the castle so freely. "The King has ordered you to leave. Even with your ego and not believing in him as King, you must respect his orders."

"I have decided to join the temple. Continue the path I started long ago. I will lead the priests in the temple here in the castle. I must correct the way they shut themselves in when the castle was under attack. If you listened to your studies Fraser, you would know that the King does not have control of the temple and its priest. It was an agreement my family made with the Blackwells many years ago. Little did I anticipate how useful it would be for me in the future. Now, everything is settled isn’t it?" Margaret smiled, amused by their confusion.

"That cannot happen," Fraser said as he missed the part where a King could not control a mere temple. The temple was on his land therefore he could rule over it. "That is prosperous. I will make an order to end whatever agreement was made. The priests must obey me. Grandfather."

Cedric stared at Margaret who would make for a good ally if not for her love for Amelia over Fraser. "Unfortunately, it is not an agreement you can break. The union between the priest and Blackwells have been set in stone for centuries and it is said it is to never be broken. No King who sits upon the throne can change it."

Fraser wished to know what idiot made this agreement and why. Why did the Blackwells care to have the priests on their side to the point of letting them not be under the King’s rule? Why let the priests have so much power? What did they have over the Blackwells back then? "You are old and incapable of leading the temple," he said.

"Which makes me a perfect choice to lead the temple. My family believes that with age comes wisdom that the priest needs. If all of you wish to speak with me, I will be in the temple. That is all," Margaret replied, turning to leave the throne room.
