The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 243
Chapter 243: Chapter 243
"Did you hear what the people are saying, mother? Most are starting to believe what we have spread," Fraser said as he sat on his new throne.
"You should be in bed. You are still recovering from the poison. I could take over your duties while you rested for a day," said Beth. She was worried about some of the poison still inside Fraser’s body. Her anger had not settled after Cedric dared to harm her son.
"I am fine. The antidote that grandfather gave me worked well. I feel more energized now that Margaret is having her name dragged through the mud alongside Amelia’s. After the two of them looked down on me, look where they are now. Margaret is somewhere hiding and Amelia is married to a man who has ruined her," Fraser shook his head as he laughed.
Once again, Beth felt the need to correct Fraser about Killian ruining Amelia, but she did not. One day Fraser would see for himself what she saw from Killiam. The man loved her niece and Beth knew it would be a big problem in the future.
"Have you given the order for more guards to go to the border as I told you to do? There is no predicting whether or not more northerners will come down from the mountain to attack us. One’s heart can change, Fraser. Amelia might have loved the people in the past, but you’re trying to turn them against her, and now she might not care for them after being betrayed," Beth said.
"As I have told you for what might be the fifth time, mother. Should the North be so foolish as to try attacking us again, we will be ready. I admired my uncle, but I am not a fool like him to underestimate my enemy. You’ve done well at gathering allies for me.. I will be sure to use them well. I don’t plan to wait for the North to come to attack us. I will hit them first," Fraser said, standing up from his throne to go to a large window that faced the north.
Beth still wasn’t certain about this plan. The people wouldn’t want their sons fighting again for no reason. It was best to work on their defense. Killian was a reputable man when it came to war and Fraser had never lifted a sword a day in his life or made plans to successfully win a war. Fraser didn’t know much about Killian to be able to plot and be one step ahead of Killian.
"It would be better for us to make sure our land is secure and set better straps for him-"
"I want to storm the north and slaughter his people so I can claim the north and make you the new Queen, mother. You are deserving of your own throne and not ruling through me. Just like I was born to be a King, you were meant to be a Queen and I will be the one to give it to you," Fraser touched his mother’s shoulder as she tried to get over the shock.
Fraser wanted the two castles and while he ruled the Blackwell throne, his mother should rule the north until he had an heir for it. She was too old to create an heir now and he did not want a sibling to compete with.
"You," Beth said in disbelief that Fraser had such a plan in mind. She would have never expected him to offer her the north throne. "I raised you well to take care of me when the time came. I am more than happy with seeing you rule the Blackwell castle."
"If you are turning down the offer, I shall give it to someone else I can control. Like grandfather-"
"Have you lost your mind?!" Beth exclaimed, trying to understand what was wrong with Fraser from him to suggest something so stupid. "You could never control that man. He would take that throne and use it to get rid of you. How could you even want to offer him something when he has poisoned you? Don’t you see the lengths he would go to-"
’To help me," Fraser finished for his mother. "I don’t like the fact he didn’t plan it with me, but I understand that it needed to look real to convince the people. No offense, but your efforts to get rid of Margaret were not working. She always had something to get over what you were doing and even managed to split up you and father."
Fraser continued to say, "What grandfather did to got Margaret out of the castle. For a long time and maybe we can have her thrown in the dungeon if we can somehow paint her as the person behind this. I can control him, mother. Do not underestimate me. All I need to do is give him a bit of what he wants to make him happy and will listen to me-"
"He poisoned you so he could get rid of one of his enemies. That man will stab you in the back at any time. He is not a man you can control, Fraser. How many times will it take for him to use you for you to realize that we must get rid of him soon? My feelings toward him as my father-in-law have nothing to do with this. The man is bad news and you must not keep him near," Beth pleaded with Fraser.
Cedric only seemed like a good ally now because he was helping Fraser to get rid of Margaret and offering his allies for Fraser to use. Cedric was slowly filling the castle with his people and Fraser was failing to realize it.
"Be quiet, mother. Grandfather is coming," Fraser said, looking past his mother at Cedric who freely entered the throne room without being announced like he was supposed to. Fraser had ordered the guards to not let anyone in while he spoke with his mother, but for some reason, the guards didn’t think they needed to ask him if his grandfather could come inside.
"King Fraser," Cedric bowed his head slightly to show respect to his grandson who was finally making him proud. "Were the two of you looking up at the mountain? Are you missing your cousin or wondering what she is doing right now? Perhaps sleeping since it is so late."
"I am never thinking about Amelia. The next time you want to enter the throne room, you are to be announced. I don’t want anyone entering my throne room without my command. You are my grandfather, but you are not exempt from those commands. Understood?" Fraser spoke in a firm tone. He was no longer a little boy who feared his grandfather.
Fraser was now the King, above everyone else in the kingdom and in his eyes, the world. The roles were switched and Cedric now had to watch his tongue around Fraser. Cedric had to impress Fraser just like Cedric wanted Fraser to do in the past. Fraser intended to make life difficult for Cedric after years of his grandfather not believing in him.
It was fun for Fraser to be on top of those who once looked down on him. He wished his mother would see clearly that he was not going to let Cedric rule him. Fraser liked that Cedric had done well to get Margaret out of the castle, but Fraser had a gift to give Cedric for poisoning him. Even if it was to help him, Fraser could not let Cedric get away with almost killing him. The big coronation he planned for days was ruined because of Cedric.
"I understand. Do you-" Cedric paused to touch his head when another headache came again. He didn’t know why for the last hour he was tormented with these headaches. The castle doctor gave him medicine, but it did not help.
Beth was intrigued by the sight of Cedric in pain. ’Is he ill?’ She wondered, delighted by the idea. Cedric had some age to him so it was no surprise his body was starting to become weak. It would be best for everyone if Cedric would just give in to whatever was happening with his body and die. It would be one less enemy Beth needed to worry about.
"Forgive me," Cedric apologized for stopping in the middle of his sentence.
’Did they poison him already?’ Fraser thought. His gift to Cedric was to poison him. Cedric would know what it was like to be in pain.
"I will remember to wait to get permission to enter the throne room-"
"What are you doing here? You are not allowed in the castle," Bella addressed Margaret who walked into the throne room with her guard right behind her. "You were sent out."
’What are the castle guards doing?’ Fraser thought, clenching his fists as the guards outside were not obeying his orders. They were letting everyone come inside.
"Don’t be ridiculous. I was not sent out, Beth. I left to clear my mind and now I am ready to speak," Margaret said, eyeing the three bastards she knew were trying to frame her.
