The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 214
Chapter 214: Chapter 214
"I don’t want to take up any more of your time so I will take my leave now," Beth said, letting the flower petals in her hands fall to the ground. "As you said, I should keep an eye on Fraser. I will see you at dinner."
Beth curtsied before leaving Margaret with her guard. Their conversation was satisfying but it wasn’t enough for everything Margaret did in the past and was planning to do in the present.
One thing she learned from their exchange was the fact she needed to get rid of the men Margaret had guarding her. Margaret’s family was known for having a large group of skilled men to protect them. Men that had nothing to do with the castle. Men who could go up against the King’s army. It was the reason Margaret was a marriage candidate for the King in her youth.
"Fraser you fool," Beth muttered. Fraser driving Leonard away messed with her plans.
Many of the men in the King’s army were loyal to Leonard and all the generals trusted his word. The generals were coming back from their posts around the kingdom to deal with the cracks in their defense which allowed Killian to ease his way into the castle. Fraser was in for a rude awakening when those generals all returned and learned Leonard was no longer there.
The Adams family had a lot of allies but they did not have an army. Beth’s main focus right now was getting allies who could add to the number of guards in the castle to make Fraser a formidable King. Beth had no intention of relying on the Adams name to help Fraser. Cedric would want too much in return for helping Fraser. Beth wanted to get rid of him alone with Margaret.
Beth walked to the throne room where Fraser was to be receiving a lesson about all the villages and towns in the kingdom.
"Mother!" Fraser said the moment she entered the throne room. "Isn’t this one much better?" He held out his hands to show off his new robe. "I will wear this to my coronation tomorrow."
"It is too extravagant," Beth commented on the robe which looked like it could be made out of gold. "The kingdom recently suffered a lot of death from our fight with the north. Families are still grieving over the loss of their sons and businesses are suffering as a result of travelers wary of the northerners who are still here to look for the other slaves."
"So you want me to look poor?" Fraser dropped his hands. He already switched up his attire for his coronation more than he could count.
"I want you to be mindful of the fact this kingdom is still going through a rough time. Showing up to the coronation dressed as if there is gold on you while you give a speech about changing this kingdom will not give you the reaction you are expecting. You do not need the people hating you on your big day," Beth explained.
"I understand and as for those northerners, I already said I want those northerners sent back to the north. We have no slaves here and if there is a chance that we do, we rightfully own them. Our reward from the fight. I’m sure they secretly have some of your people. You don’t see me asking for them back. I plan on going to town to meet with the people and hear their concerns or whatever," Fraser said, not particularly interested in it but he needed to give him a good image.
"Good. As soon as you are done here, go straight to town and maybe visit a few villages. We should send out packages to aid the people at this time. It would need to come from your fund. Do not fight me on this Fraser," Beth quickly spoke before he could object. "I am trying to make you better than your uncle."
"There was nothing wrong with uncle. His only flaw was not having more men around his chambers and the castle to protect his head. I spoke with the doctors and they believe it is unlikely that Killian was the one to kill uncle. There are no wounds and after opening his body, it seemed something burned his insides. He was most likely poisoned so I am having more people to taste my food come into the castle," Fraser said as he would not give anyone the chance to poison him.
"Poison? That is strange. When would anyone have the chance to poison Richard? Didn’t he eat dinner with Annabelle and Amelia the night he died? A servant would have to be the one to slip something into his food but then again, there were dead guards found outside his room. Why go through all the trouble to kill his guards but then poison him? Killian must have found Richard already dead but it would take a skilled fighter to get by those guards," Beth said, tapping her finger to help her think.
The person who killed Richard without being noticed was a big concern for Fraser. Beth needed to know who they were and why they did it.
"If you ask me, I think Amelia got her guard to kill her father. It’s a bit too much of a coincidence, isn’t it? What are the odds my uncle died after it was announced Amelia would marry a nearby prince? Then, here came Killian to take over the castle the same night and ask for Amelia’s hand. I think they worked together," Fraser said, truly believing Amelia was a traitor.
Fraser continued to explain his reasoning. "Think about it, mother. They say Killian and Amelia walked together before it was announced my uncle was dead. Amelia was able to become Queen and Killian’s enemy was dead. They both got something good out of this. Isn’t it strange the day my uncle sent her out as bait, Killian was able to kill the men and only Amelia survived with her guard?"
"It is odd," Beth agreed. "But it seems like he loves her."
"Then they must have been meeting each other before all of this. I think it is worth letting this information slip to the people. I want to kill the remaining love they have for their former princess," Fraser grinned as he started to plot.
